East Village was a historical Black community back in the 40s and 50s. There is a small apartment on J and 14th that has a plaque that talks about it. It was originally the first Black owned hotel in SD.
That’s very true most of the people in Inglewood I knew went to Southern Grambling or prairie view because of the relatives in those places On the East Coast most blacks come from the Carolinas or Georgia or the islands
The areas I think he's talking about that were the first African-American communities are Sherman Heights, Grant Hill, Stockton & Memorial. I've looked up the boundaries of thr Memorial area & it does include part of Logan Heights so it's one of those sections that has sorta weird boundaries. I'm thinking that might be what they call "The Coast" or "West Coast" side. I read somewhere a lot of Black folks started to move in there in the 1950s & '60s especially Sherman Heights. The other areas east like where this Cat grew up at they moved into later in like the '60s & '70s. The area first 4 I named were older areas mostly pre WW2 with old homes & areas like Chollas Creek, Lincoln Park, were mostly post WW2 with Tract Homes. I've looked up some of those areas & they're 1950's & '60s & 1970s built homes. Latinos mainly of Mexican descent also settled there & even Samoans & Filipinos too. Today Latinos are I think the majority in all areas with remnants of the other Razas there still there.
Johnny Ritchey, famous baseball player for the Negro Leagues and Padres, was born in San Diego in 1923..So San Diego must have had a small Black neighborhood somewhere around here.
@Volodymyr Zelensky's Trust Fund Paris actually has a large black population similar to nyc but most of them are in the suburbs. I think Paris is like 25% black.

You have small recognitions of the Black community by the city like Pastor Timothy Winters Street by Bayview Baptist and Willie Jones Ave in Lincoln
Lived in the coast all the blacks started there
Most black people in California have roots in Texas or Louisiana. After that it’s a mixture of Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi etc….
Up north it's the same way

I'm from Vegas and it's the exact same.
Truthfully, all black people from California have roots in the south. You go to all your family reunions in the south.

West Coast 20s is technically in Sherman Heights and the 30s is Stockton and Logan Heights by what the city calls it
