    I've decided to design and 3D print all the Hobbit Holes for an epic Shire/Hobbiton project as I figured this would not only save me on time, as there will be over 8 Hobbit Homes on the board (final number to be decided), but to also make these available to all of you for your own Hobbit Home/Shire project! We've got the base structure now complete on the boards with all the lighting. This is going to be an EPIC project!!!

      the earth and stairs off to the left but i don't want to keep it going left because it will be too much weight. Maybe i can make road curving back to front some and have the road busted up by a sinkhole...idk i may just trash it. I have put a lot of time in it but i have hit a creative road block...lol. I have only been doing this for a year so...there is so much to learn. The biggest and hardest thing for me is the freaking water pouring and it always...always leaks no matter how much clear sealent i put on my dioramas....How can i get a good pour with no leaks and lighting underneath on river floor..and bottom of bodies of water?

      My God , my nerves are going crazy just thinking of doing a diorama so massive. At current time i just finished a 1ft x 1.5ft diorama of the walking dead- daryl on his bike....i know its the lego model but the figures have a lot of detail and i am not using the " road & gaurd rails" that came with it..i made a three tier with underground sewer and big sewer pipe stubbing out with green ooze & bubbles, stairs all the way up carved into rock, rails by pipe to right of pipe to beginning stairs. I came out about 10' in rama measurements and a 2 row of 1' blocks to hold in nasty water and an over flow about 2' wide. At street level i made a street light but......i am kinda burned out at the moment...because i still have to figure out how i am going to do the street. I stepped the levels of earr

    If you guys haven't already watched, go check out the first video in this series where we go into detail on the "Halfling Homes" I've been designing in Zbrush! I made an entire set which are going to be 3D printed for this project, go give it a watch! The poor guy didn't do so well on the views and could use some love as I worked pretty dang hard on that sucker.

    Your modroc/plaster bandage shouldn't have any visible pattern on it - the little holes and gause/fabric. You should smooth it down as you attach it as this will help it adhear to the base structure. If you don't do this you may find areas of your work lifting up later on (could be months later) as the plaster hasn't attached to the base structure properly. Smoothing helps activate all of the plaster and ensure a snug fit to the material below. It will also stop you getting visible lines at the edge of each strip, as layers should merge with each other.
    Remember if you're finding you are getting a visible pattern from the gause (the fabric), you can always mix up some more plaster (the power kind) and thinly layer this on top while the bandage is still wet.

    • @RealTerrainHobbies
      @RealTerrainHobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for the tip! And yeah, I was planning on mixing another thin layer to fill in all the little holes/pattern. Also, afterwards I'll be sealing everything with modpodge before applying all the flocking and whatnot

Though your projects are on another level, absolutely huge endeavors! This is such a cool project, love seeing it slowly develop- the movable modular aspect of it is super awesome. The 3D models look great, can't wait to see how it all comes together! Also, the light hub box is super satisfyingly organized, hope it worked out well for you~

    I'd actually be more worried about durability with the woodland scenics stuff there. It's more geared towards the static diorama/railroad style layouts rather than the interactivity that a gaming board requires there.
    The stuff does look nice, but it's also something that I don't think is that sturdy...it's not fun when dealing with an entire gaming board and someones hand breaks through it.

    • @RealTerrainHobbies
      @RealTerrainHobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the structural integrity comes from the plaster surface so the more layers you add the stronger it gets. So if you're worried about that you dont need to be. If you mean the support panels I'm not sorried about them. Theyre close enough together it would take me having to put a lot of my weight on the surface above before things would finally cave in. Way more weight then you'd ever have on there from any form of gameplay.

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RealTerrainHobbies Wasn't thinking of the normal use, more of someone reaching in for a model and their hand going through it.
      It's the same reason a lot of places ban the nail trees and pin spears/pikes that used to be quite common, save less of a bloody mess and more of a crater in the table.

    Now far ahead the board has gone,
    And I must finish, if I can,
    Covering it with Shaper Sheet,
    Until it forms some larger way
    Where many memes and sponsors meet.
    And whither then? I cannot say.

    This is shaping into something really cool.
    Why do you use that white styrofoam?
    Why not insulation material like XPS, the pink, blue, green or yellow foam sheets?
    It's not the white color I am thinking about, it's the materials density I am talking about.
    The colored ones are meant to last, white styrofoam shrinks.
    There is some white styrofoam for building insulation as well, but it doesn't look like that's what you are using.
    I'm just concerned your fantastic creations will shrink and warp and somewhat "melt" within few years.
    I never use the white material.

      @RealTerrainHobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never heard of it shrinking before? And I only use XPS for detailed carving, not for big stuff like this. I prefer the white as it's cheaper and lighter! I use pink XPS again for more detailed work that wont be hidden away below the surface of a terrain piece. Hope that makes sense!

    FYI, If you want to get rid of the pitting left over from the plaster cloth just wet your hands and run it over the plaster cloth, before the cloth dries, till the plaster that's impregnated in the cloth fills the little gaps. Also a little background on that stuff that's what plaster casts were made from before they came out with the heat activated polymer casts they use know. I used to use that stuff back in the late 90's and early 2k's for making casts of body parts, rocks, branches and the likes for 3D Design class in Highschool.

    Another great build get started. I do have one ask: can you please not crank up the volume on the music suddenly? It really gets annoying when you have to turn the volume up and down throughout a video because the music is so loud. I know a lot of TH-camrs like to start with really loud music and then all of a sudden you can't hear what they're saying because you had to turn the volume down but I don't think it's a good idea for your viewers.
