    If only automakers fit them for you, no one would have to go through these troubles

    Thank you for this video. You saved my day. I got a Honda Pilot SUV and I tried to install that rear camera. Your video showed a quick and easy way to install the rear camera instead of installing near the license plate. Thank you.

    I've got a similar style dash cam that'll be installing and I never though about mounting on the trim itself. Great idea 👍

    I recommend starting from the rear dash camera and work your way up to the front

    Inside that console if you take it out and have a small round file. File a small half circle at the bottom of the plastic and will be easier and tidy.

      Just run the wire in the rear hatch jamb, the foam seal shouldn’t hurt it. Easier than drilling, the camera would get dirty easily and need cleaning though

  • @gl35

    I have experienced that mounting rear camera on the vinyl trim board will fail in a very short time due to gravity and bouncing. The double-stick tape will give way, especially during very hot or very cold weather. I have not found a quality double-stick tape that works.

    • @KurtofTrades
      @KurtofTrades  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mines been on there for 2 years without issues, make sure you clean the area good and apply it during warm weather.

    • @stevetx77
      @stevetx77 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Try 3M VHB Bonding tape. Used it on lots of stuff for years and has never failed me. 90% of getting any tape to stick to a surface is surface prep and cleanliness. I use ~70% rubbing/denatured alcohol (same stuff those alcohol prep pads are wetted with) and scrub, scrub, scrub the mounting surfaces clean, dry with a clean dry cloth, then scrub and wipe again! Gotta get those years of Armor-All off those trim pieces!! I also always warm the tape and surfaces up with a blow drier. I’m currently using VHB 5952, but they have many other bonding tapes depending on what you’re trying to accomplish.

    Curious as to why you didn’t hard wire it to your fuse panel?

    • @KurtofTrades
      @KurtofTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not concerned with things happening while it’s parked and it has a parking guard feature

    • @KurtofTrades
      @KurtofTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also it can sit fit a week at a time so don’t want to drain battery

    • @rblum100
      @rblum100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KurtofTrades Kurt, all you have to do is to wire it into one of the fuse slots that is powered only when the key is on. There are plenty of videos that help you identify which slots to use. Then use a piggyback fuse to access it. Much more elegant solution than having a cludgy power adaptor sticking out of the socket all of the time. Using this solution solves the concern that you expressed.

    • @KurtofTrades

      That’s true, don’t feel like messing with the electrical and it doesn’t bother me though.

    Is this a normal front facing cam installed at the rear?

  • @BHG93
    @BHG93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just curious, why didn't you run always to the front then down to the footwell and from there to where ever your power is ? Also I have a red wire assuming its a power wire do you think that be fine to connect to a rear 12v outlet positive connection?

    • @KurtofTrades
      @KurtofTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Didn’t have enough wire to go that far and don’t need it on while I’m parked. Not sure on the positive wire.

    • @gianstevens7918
      @gianstevens7918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be fine, if you haven't done that yet. Most dash cams barely need a 5A fuse and you're probably not going to use your rear outlet that much so it's fine really :-)

    I can’t mount my rear cam to my Nissan Cube cz the rear door opens side ways.

    • @KurtofTrades
      @KurtofTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm might have to mount it on the side or run the wire along where the hinge is first. Gl

    What length USB cable did you use here?

    • @KurtofTrades
      @KurtofTrades  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not positive as I don’t have it anymore. It’s probably 10-12’. Most newer cams have a longer one though.

  • @sethnelson5621
    @sethnelson5621 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can mount them on the rear window and use goo gone to remove the residue just fine. That is a horrible way to run the wire to the camera. Pulling off the panel above it and running the wire through the factory boot into the trunk area and out is the best way. No professional would run a wire outside a panel like that.
