For many years I always thought of kitchen fire involving overheated cooking oil or fat as a class B fire since it's a burning liquid, wasn't till 3 years ago when I took OHSA 10 and later OHSA 30 that I learned about a class K extinguisher and why it's a bit different than a regular class B fire.
The Class K extinguisher is specifically used on grease fryer fires. ABC Dry Chemical would be the choice for most of the other household potential fire hazards.
