It's a bit of a worry when you have journo in his 20's trying to tell a guy who has kicked over 900 goals what a player can do 'by telling the coach how they should be playing'. Maclure often doesn't know his place when discussing these things that both Lloyd and Cornes know so well. Journo's.......they love to think they're experts! (eye roll).

Playing devils advocate - The game has changed since Loydy played. Loydy would get suspended for 40 games for what he got away with.
Maclure has no place on an AFL panel. And it's nothing to do with never being a player. It's because he is a rubbish journo who is all about the click bait statements.

Heppells answer doesn't cut it anyway, he said winning the ball when it's there to be won us how you really be tough but they don't do that either at the moment.
I think Heppell skewed Llordo's point as well. Lloyd's point effectively was showing that you won't get bullied. Essendon got slapped around all night - 30 tackles they only laid for the game! Sydney are hardnuts and they stamped on the throats on the bombers. Once the Swans could smell blood, it was over. Essendon were ripe for the picking and did nothing about it.

Salvage the season? Geez McClure talks rubbish. Essendon are 2 and 7 after 9 rounds with a next 4 games consisting of Richmond, Port Adelaide (Away), Carlton and St Kilda. They'll be lucky to win 1 of their next 4 and if they lose all 4 they'll be 2 and 11. They aren't playing finals, so how on earth can they salvage their season.

There was a game last year I think where Heppell got knocked down hard. Jake stringer runs straight at the opponent and grabs his jumper and starts spraying him. Bombers turn around and kick 3 goals off the back of it.
We miss stringer badly at the moment. Just that mongrel type of player who scraps and scraps (when he's fit)
I agree with Lloyd. I've played a game where the opposition were more skillful than us. We got aggressive and turned it into a slog. They got riled up and forgot about the ball. We removed their skill advantage by getting their mind off the game. We still lost, but not by much. Turned a thrashing into a narrow loss, and made a nice rivalry.
Who would’ve thought?! Good on your team, but players are stupid now, they don’t know how to change the game physically and mentally in their favour. A team like Melbourne Who knows how to do that reaps the rewards
You looks back through history of premiership winning teams in the last 20 to 30 years (tigers, hawks, geelong, Eagles, sydney, Brisbane, adelaide, North) have a ruthless edge about them. It doesn't have to match those days but Melbourne and Richmond have a good aggression for the modern game. You can't win premierships if you don't have aggression.

He'll spend time looking over his back for the next hit, instead of the ball. He'll touch the ball and look for a rushed handball straight away because he's bracing for the hit.
If we the people don't come together as one to get rid of McClure we will be stuck watching and listening to him for 30 more years.

I love seeing my team play Essendon. Such easy beats, no passion, bugger all energy and no hardness. It sounds harsh I know but, even when they beat teams, they do it bruise free. This era of the Bombers are the friendly, shake your hand, shout you a beer, star gazing, looking up to your opponent Bombers.
As an Essendon supporter I agree. We only ever play with passion and aggression for 1 game after we've had 5 games of scrutiny and mediocrity. Things look up for a week or two as played show something than the cycle just repeats.
I have to 100% agree with Lloyd's comments. No aggression on the field. You've lost the game, show some gusto. Show the young fellas that even if you've lost you aren't a team to f with..... to go on a talk show and act tough, then back it up with an extremely poor effort is just embarrassing and takes away from your credibility.
Being a bombers supporter and watching these clips heavily the last few days. The only people who are saying we shouldn't have smashed Parker or show emotion after the game are the people who never played at the top level.
Our president and CEO never played at the top level. They need to go, we NEED ruthlessness and aggression in ALL aspects of our footy club.
I'm not saying our players should punch people's lights out but there is no fight at all.
When the bombers were absolutely dominating the AFL in the late 90s early 2000s they were super aggressive and ruthless too, I'm not a bombers supporter but I always remember they were a scary team you didn't wanna mess with back then

I have never been more ashamed to be an Essendon supporter than right now. And that includes the drugs saga, being kicked out of the finals, and finishing bottom of the ladder for the first time in our history.. We’re a disaster.

McClure really has no idea. Imagine thinking you know what it takes to be part of a successful football club with your journalism degree versus nearly 600 AFL games and a couple of premierships between Lloyd and Cornes.
At what point does journalism like this become bullying? They’re talking as if lives are at risk, it’s football. The impact this kind of over the top negativity has on the players the club etc etc is way worse then their ability to football.

@@DaNooch669 Loydy played in era where if you went the bump or wrestle no consequences, if you went the biff it was 1 or 2 week suspension. Now days its 4 - 6 weeks for minimum biff and big fines for a wrestle. If was fines in Loydy day Loydy would have played soft because he hates losing money.

Essendon really do have the worst zone in the AFL. We’ll be a 5 goal better side just by playing man on man. The current game plan allows too many to cheat and not push back hard. Honestly, all of the mids and most of the half backs do it. Drives me insane
I think the leadership group or captain should be able to approach a coach & say I / we think some of players aren't getting the game plan / are over thinking / it's too complex in the heat of the game forgetting elements etc.... coaches can plan & order all they want but need to know what the players are thinking or know / understand why their struggling to execute .
You can have effort & still not execute a game plan & vice versa

As a supporter the last thing i want to see after a loss is players smiling and laughing. My entire week after a loss is ruined. The hours straight after a loss feels like I've been kicked in the guts. Save the smiles and niceties for when you get home and i can't see you

Agreed throw Carline Wilson in to. The way these journalist carry-on is destroying what was a great team sport. I cancelled my membership at the end of 2019 due to the death of a thousand cuts i call it. A lot of little cuts add up to one big one. The journalist mention have taken the joy and spirit out of Australia rules football. I understand that they have a job to do, but there comes a point where at the end of the day they need to understand they never played league or top level amateur football and the truth to the matter they are spoilt little rich kids who where privileged enough with there upbringings to go to university and only achieved a degree in journalism. For me I see moden day journalist as the used car sales person of the 1980s for respect levels and integrity of their profession

Lot's of talk around it being a different era to Llordo's, ok lets look a little closer, if the situation with Shield happend to say Sam Mitchell, here is how that plays out, Mitchell would be all over Parker like a rash, everytime Parker got near the ball he would be taken down hard, you would then have Hodgey doing the same thing, players would be getting taken down hard, Lewis would also be doing the same, bottom line you do what Parker did to the Hawks back in 2015 you are going to regret it, you do it to the current D's and you will regret it, do it to Essendon and you will get away with it no problem at all, reminds me of the line in the sand game, the Hawks used to get physically beat up by the bombers and then the Hawks decided enough was enough, can you imagine what Dermi would have to say if the Hawks allowed Parker to treat Hodge in that manner. The young no name journalist comments regarding we pass that with players hurting after a game, is the reason I don't go to the football. I am not giving up my time on a weekend to sit out in the cold, put up with drunks in the venue to see my team back slap and joke with the team we lost to after the game. @@user-ph8tn1ny8q It's because both West coast and north are in a rebuild. Essendon is supposed to be winning finals this year, they should be in the window. West Coast has won two premierships and played in 4 grand finals since we won our last final lol.

After a promising back half of 2021, I expected a lot more then this, not top 4 or anything and given our draw isn't the easiest especially at the start but it's the way we are losing, our reactions to it, and playing a selfish don't give an f brand of football, whilst not caring for our team mates nor fans.
