    My dad just bought a '43 here in the states with zero rust. It's been sitting for 25 years but it's a very restorable survivor. So videos like this are great.

    Brilliant video on "how to..." with the comedy thrown in, awesome! I admire your approach to all the work that you do on the Jeep, more diligent than I - gives me something to aim for as I follow your example, thank you!

    I use a variety various sized screw drivers, makes installations trouble free. Important not to damage threads which is easily done as aluminium threads are soft. Damaged threads can be fixed using correct sized tap. Very good video. Keep them coming, thankyou. 👌🏻👍🏻

    Good vid. Yes, the comment about drinking good ale, and what followed, made for a good comedy interval.

    Hi Matt, If you ever do a video about the D Day preperations , evacuation , slapton sands and surrounding area, more than welcome to use our farm for your filming, we have sopme great history going on down here, sherman tank in the carpark, and some nice archive pictures in the local pubs and cafes, our farm was comondeered for the soldiers to pracice at the time.
    When My grandfather bought it just after the wear, there were Gi helmets and amunition left around on the barn walls and in the hedgerows, I still have one here that Gran used regularly to collect the hens aggs

    I sheared off one of the throttle screw head on removal and couldn't get the rest of the screw out of the throttle shaft. I used a dremel to grind down the rest of the threaded part of the screw so I could remove the throttle shaft. Then I used a number 43 drill bit and drilled out both holes for the throttle plate mount and tapped them with my smallest tap, a number 4 with 40 TPI. None of my local hardware stores carry a 4-40 brass screw so I had to order 100 online. Still waiting on the screws.

    Hi Matt, I did not see you use any anti-seizing compounds while the materials are very divers that you put together. Is that not commonly done or advised somewhere? Can't hurt either I assume. Could you share your wisdom please. Greetings from The Netherlands.

    One trick I do is tape the screws to the driver to get them started, then pull off tape with kneedle nose

    Do you recommend that brand new carb? It seemed to run pretty good

    • @Greendot319
      @Greendot319  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if you can't get a good WO go for the joes, the metering rod can be adjusted a bit for better running but it is very good!

    While taking off the throttle butterfly on the WO carb today one of the brass screws broke off, I didn’t not try the other one yet, I did notice on the back side of the screw they both seem to be purposely split in the center in what seems to be a locking technique so they can’t back out. Is this normal? Does it need to be done once new ones are installed? And also what is the best way to remove the broken screws from that shaft?

    • @Greendot319
      @Greendot319  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is all correct, removing the butterfly screws is probably one of the more difficult problems of restoring a WO and takes a lot of care. The best way to do it is to heat the shafts and screws a couple of times with a torch and then quench with WD40, after the 2nd or 3rd cycle the screws should be ready to shift. You must put maximum force into pushing into the screw head and less force into rotating the screw, all I can say is that if you try to force the screw it is likely the shaft will break as you found. To remove broken ones you can drill them and pick out the threads which takes some time and effort or five it to a specialist who should have no problem, when reinserting new screws you can use loctite to lock them, reproduction shafts exist on the market, so all is not lost if you cant recover a throttle shaft! cheers
