It is because we dont want to a new bearing against a used crank pin. The polishing knocks down any small imperfections on the journal's that could damage the new bearings. Kurt

Is this to increase bearing lifespan?Or perhaps for better oiling? Another great video! Thanks.

Nitriting can increase journal size to save a crankshaft if the crank is on the low end of tolerance specification.
It can, but is more expensive. When bearings become more of an issue then maybe it will be a more viable solution.
