I will have my undergrads in biosciences & bioengineering, i will join college in a few months and will probably pursue bioinformatics since i also code and have a interest in computational biology

Can I know the starting salary for bioinformatics ?

The starting salary can vary greatly based on education, location, and the specific job role. If you want a general idea you can use the salary feature on Glassdoor (www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/index.htm). Simply type in the job title and location, and it will give you the average salary for that area, as well as what you can expect with different levels of experience. I'll also add that on average, industry positions tend to pay more than academic positions. Hope this helps :)

Would you say a masters in bioinformatics is worth it?

For me it definitely was. For others I would say that it depends. If your bachelors is in a more bio-related subject and you want to pursue a career in bioinformatics then I would say that doing a masters in bioinformatics can be a good idea. Alternatively you could go straight into a PhD. Or if your bachelors is in bioinformatics then you may not need either. It really depends on your end goal.
A couple things to consider; a lot of PhDs are funded whereas most masters programs are not. A masters is a lot shorter so you can start your career sooner and gain experience on the job. Some organizations may have a preference for people with a PhD, although I would say your skill set/ output is arguably more important than your degree certificate.
