baritone is so great for blues. The other popular tuning, open G is even easier. Just drop your first string to D (D G B D) i've used that on a lot of Seasick Steve covers.
Thanks for your many enjoyable videos. I would like some feedback on the Cordoba 24b your using in this video, trying to buy my first baritone and it's down to this Cordoba and a comparable Kala, any observations you might have would be helpful ( feel of neck-sound....) Thanks
You can't go wrong with Kala. I think the comparable model there is the KA-ABP-CTG, which has solid cedar top too, but with acacia back and sides. I think you will find this Cordoba cheaper by $100, possibly more. I bought mine used through the Ukulele Underground forums. I am partial to the looks of this Cordoba with the spalted maple laminate sides. The contrasting red binding looks very close to the Kala version. The back and sides looks very different though. I think the build quality was excellent for this price point. The book matched woods were perfect and the neck and frets were excellent and the whole setup was very good. A cedar top is definitely going to sound softer and mellower than a comparable mahogany or spruce topped instrument. Baritones are already mellower sounding that a tenor or smaller so keep that in mind. If you are looking for a strummer this is not going to project as much as one of those other tonewoods. It does sound very nice for finger picking, which I how I am mostly using it. Because I bought this used, I can't say how it would come straight from the manufacturer. I am still using the original strings which are probably Aquila. Those are not my preferred strings for this size instrument. I prefer Southcoast strings with polished wounds on my baritones that will probably make this thing sound better, but I won't know until I do a string change.
Thanks for stopping by! This Córdoba plays like a dream. I pick this one up the most. I ran into another open tuning suggested by James Hill (BEBE) th-cam.com/video/7ONuaMiwuuM/w-d-xo.html which I’m keen to try next.
@@AndrewMorsePDX I’ll definitely check out James’ suggestion. He’s really inspiring. I’ve played tenor ukes and ubass for a while but recently I put together a baritone kit from Stewmac with some friends and I’m loving the result. I’ve been surprised by the amount of TH-cam posts from baritone players. Your arrangements are really enjoyable & keeping my mind and ears on the ball working out Harvest Moon etc. Thanks for sharing your work :-)
Love Pokey! And I love your baritone blues playing.
Really nice, Andrew. My wife will LOVE that one. Btw - thank you for all your contributions.
Brilliant performance.
Awesome playing.
Very nice indeed, Andrew!

+drbekken thanks Doc! Stay frosty mi amigo.

+L. Louden thank you Linda. I hope you are feeling better.
Thanks for your quick response, I think I'll start with the Kala but will probably have both before it's over.
Well that is some impressive blues picking and singing. Going to have to study this.
+Jazzbanjorex Thanks dude! Have you tried open tuning before? It's a lot of fun.
Andrew Morse open Seventh? Or major?

Real fine Andrew!
Are you in open tuning? There's some fab playing here!
Thanks Brian, yes I used open D tuning. I think Pokey might have used the same tuning.
Where do I find out how to play blues like this on my baritone
I'm a tenor man, gotta get me a baritone.
You should! They are just as fun!

Hey Andrew - love your baritone work :-) Would you mind sharing the alternate tuning you are using for this one?
Just found your previous open G comment below 😬
