      The "Bad Meets Evil" track they did together makes the album they did together a decade later "Bad Meets Evil: Hell The Sequel" so much better for the long-term fans.

      @@screwylooygamingimagine suggesting TES over MMLP. There's not one song on The Eminem Show that is better than any song on MMLP, outside maybe Amityville and Under The Influence and that's debatable. What songs are better than Kill You? Stan? The Way I Am? Remember Me? I'm Back? Drug Ballad? Criminal, etc? Not even close but the people who say TES is his best album all fall into the same categories.

    He's such a good storyteller, and changing into different characters, you don't even realize how good the rapping is. His ad libs aren't just goofy yelps, they actually add to the content of the songs. I was hooked from the first time I heard this album, and am still a fan now, 50 years old and amazed that he's still getting better.

  • @patrickcsizmadi2276
    @patrickcsizmadi2276 ปีที่แล้ว +59

    As people have said, re listen to "Kim" first and then "97 Bonnie and Clyde" to complete the story in order. Also, the chorus on "97 Bonnie and Clyde" when he sings Just the two of us is a play on a Will Smith song "Just the two of us" that Will Smith dedicated to his son and was popular around that time. Obviously, Will Smith's version was a heartfelt record to his son, whereas Eminem's more dark. Will Smith won the grammy around the time for best rap album and he went on stage saying he doesn't have to cuss on his record to sell. This prompted Eminem to make fun of him in the "Forgot about Dre" video and on the "Real Slim Shady" song.

    • @cbfwebs
      @cbfwebs ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I actually never put that together of that's why Will said that at the awards because Eminem took his song. There's also a story out there of Em meeting Will in some recording studio telling him he admired him and playing the track for Will and Will told Em he's either going to be forgotten about or the biggest thing ever. So then Will goes on stage sneak dissing him? It's kind of out of line and I see why Em went hard at him after that.

    Eminem talks about the role model theme a lot in his songs. Go back and listen to Renegade with him and Jay. He mocks kids for following in his messed up shoes and the parents who try to blame him (and/or rap music) for being a bad influence. He pretty much absolves himself from any responsibility when it comes to making a bad impression. Heck, the beginning of this album says to not attempt anything you hear on the record.

      So that song is so multi-layered with the will smith tie in and the Tupac tie ins, plus the original lore of Bonnie and Clyde the criminal outlaws. And then singing in a sing song voice to a toddler with her baby gibberish vocals included? It’s an amazing song!!

This came out during high school, when I was hustling and hanging with mostly black guys who absolutely HATED eminem until he signed 50 Cent, then lolll Eminem was the cool white boy just like me loll, but because I didnt wanna seem like a lame (I was 15/16 and this was the late 90s, I didn't have the guts to be different like kids today do)I didn't really fuck with this album or MMLP until later years, I've def went through MMLP a few times now, but I never did go back to this one, so this was also a first listen for one of your most experienced listeners as well, dope album, totally get why other kids gravitatied to him and his music, there really wasn't much else besides club music, underground and gangsta rap, this was def one of the first albums to bend those norms

    I see a few people saying this in the comments: "'97 Bonnie and Clyde" is basically the sequel to "Kim". You gotta remember, on the song he had Hailie sleep in the car while he was arguing with Kim. Plus on "Kim" he already killed the man he was "cheating" on Em with and his son which was two other things he needed help with in the trunk on the end of this song. How he put this together in a two album span is crazy though

    When this album came out, it was wild. Dr. Dre being a part of it was huge, it hadn't been too long since he brought us Snoop Dogg, and people knew that if Dre was working with someone, it was worth listening to. And damn, the beats, Eminem's style, and the damn subjects that he rapped about absolutely made this an amazing album.
    You never know when an album or an artist is going to stay just based on their first album, but dang, we hoped he would continue to be amazing, and did he ever!

    Great video man, he apologized to Kim on the song Bad Husband for Bonnie and Clyde 97 and Kim. But yeah those songs are wild lol.
    edit: this album has mostly Slim Shady, but I think songs like "If I Had" or "Rock Bottom" are actually Eminem or Marshall, but most of them are Slim
    I agree Big Pun, MF DOOM, and Eminem can make a beat with their words, the "real" beat is secondary, you wanna listen to them first.
