Always thought Renault made a big mistake not importing this to the U.K.. the 2CV had just stopped and all those people would have loved this! Great job saving this!
I have one too, one of the last made, and they are hilarious to drive. Probably wouldn't have deleted the rear wiper, but on the whole, it's a good job done. I bought mine in March with loads of creaks and vibrations, which are slowly being eradicated! I'm in Devon too, and there's a big following of these cars round here, I know of 6 in the Torbay area, where I am.
Great that you've saved it! I get why you went for clear indicators, but I'd defo switch back to amber if you get the chance. They are so iconic to the Twingo... I've always loved the look of the 1st gen Twingo and I have no idea why Renault didn't sell it in the UK. I am convinced they would have been insanely popular over here. What a missed opportunity!
Absolutely agree, if a good set do come up I will be sure to get them, they just all seem to have ended up the same as the old ones! It get such great reception when out and about as well, I’m sure it would have been a hit over here!
Twingos are awesome! Had one and still miss it to this day. I marginally preferred my 2012 Panda, but both are awesome. Yours is a beaut and I wish you happy motoring.
It looks great I'm glad you had it restored. I know one never asks how much it cost , but how much did it cost? 😃. As I'm thinking I might hand over my Lada Niva to Gareth if they're as good as you say .
Thank you, as am I now I have it back! If you drop me a message, I can discuss the pricing with you? Considering the amount of hours, fabrication etc I thought it was very reasonable 🙂
It's one of my all-time favourite cars. Loved these from day one. Sadly enough I bought myself a Toyota Starlet just a few months before these came out. "Sadly" is the wrong term because the Starlet was a damn good car that never left me down in the 30!! years this car ran with about 300.000 Km behind the wheels. I don't think that I would have achieved the same with a Twingo.
Interestingly enough we know people with Twingos on or near that mileage so imagine when well looked after it's certainly possible! The engines seem good, but the rust is always one to battle with...
Why oh why would you want the 80s Renault Logo? The 90s Chrome Logo is the best one Renault ever done. It's the same as when I see a Renault Logo in black. Just why? It's horrible in black. It's meant to be a beautiful shiny chrome. If you want a car with black logo or none go by some German rubbish.
Fantastic job keeping this rare and quirky hatch on the road, i can't remember the last time i saw a MK1, they have so much personality.
Thank you! Yes very rare to see in the UK, although still plentiful if you go into Europe!

Yes, that’s a very good point! Thank you 🙂

Thank you, I’m sure we will and are loving having it back! We’re big fans of Pandas as well - if yours a 169 variant or the newer 312?
@@OGCarsit was the 169. Very lovely, nippy car.
Yay! So great to see such an early example still alive
Thank you!
He,s a lucky car , Mr Pea ! Well done you !!

I commented on this car on tiktok. I love MK1 twingos shame they never did them in rhd.
Yeah we’ve posted him there quite a lot!😅 there were 1 or 2 converted, but it’s a lot of work, makes it a quirk being LHD in the UK!

Look after Mr Pea, you never own a classic... just look after it for the next person. x
I don’t see him going anywhere, so now to look after him for myself!

It's not black, the 80s one is still chrome, just has a couple indentations and otherwise the same!
@OGCars I know that and never said it was black. Have seen a few idiots driving Renaults with black logos do and I just think why? It's just ruins it.
