    Replacing Q214 and Q216 with 2SA1943N each worked great. Thanks much. Symptoms were: on power up the light went green for a second then to red. Pulled out both transistors, power up with green light, put new transistors in. Available from Digikey. Thanks.

    I was given a Passport that fallen over and jammed the the 1/4" jacks for both speakers and a mic. They were literally shattered inside. One of the RCA stereo inputs was also missing a channel. I replaced all the 1/4" jacks with ones from Switchcraft and repaired a missing ground pin on the RCA jack. Now that I reassemble it, I'm not getting very much output from line sources and mics. And the left and right channels don't seem to be separated any more. I was certain it worked fine except for the broken jacks. I've rechecked all my work, and there's no shorts and I made sure to mark every connector when I disassembled it. I really want to get it working properly again, it's going to my kid's school.

    2 types of fender protection
    You will noticed that if you power it on and goes green in 1 sec and immediantly goes to red means that your power amp module is shorted but if you power on and stays red then your issue is in power supply (SMPS)

      Good to know next time. Thanks a lot!
      Here is the video in English: th-cam.com/video/086tFp0vNMY/w-d-xo.html
      Also, I just uploaded the reconditioning of the fender 250 speakers to my FB page: facebook.com/letsdocom/

      Can you provide the part number or link to buy the SMPS for the Fender PD250?

    I’m curious - Why do you save the aluminum heat sink shavings? Also, I’m not at all being rude (like my intro comment was 😂), but if you had less of a mess on the workbench and paused just a few more times to quickly explain a few more of the “beginner-confusing” things you did here, you’d have yourself an AMAZINGLY EDUCATIONAL troubleshooting video!!!
    The video AS IS is actually excellent. I’m impressed with what explaining you DID do… But as a beginner, I was still left scratching my head on a few items… the good news, is it was nothing I couldn’t figure out elsewhere! You did great. If you shortened the intro by… 45 seconds..? And made your workspace more easy for the viewers to see what’s important and not all types of other random stuff, you could make a serious living doing this. I just thought I’d share that.

      Sorry for the confusion, still not just learning the electronics but also how to make a decent educational video. Thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciate that.

    Already Counter Some Issue Back Then
    The 250 only has power amp shorted that i can easily fix some new parts and set bias and that thing is back to life
    The Pd250 was a different story that one has so many issue back then
    broken power supply
    Which got fixed but this crappy 1915 transistor which to power the mixer 15+- dc decided to over voltage and broke the mixer which all 20 op amps TL702 ARE blown been replaced and everything is intact again

    • @Letsdosomethinguseful
      @Letsdosomethinguseful  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I better check the 1915 has a very good heat dissipation or see if there is a better version. May be I can use a Step-down converter instead of a linear regulator.

    Hello. I disconnected some of the connectors just so that I could have the mixer section/front panel/PCB lie down without having to hold it up. I'm trying to measure the output DC voltage of the power supply, but I'm not even getting any voltage. I know it's supposed to be 51 VDC.

    • @Letsdosomethinguseful
      @Letsdosomethinguseful  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is supposed to be +36 and -36 volts with a central tap. Also +15 and -15 that goes to the mixer. Unfortunately, it is a Switch Mode Power Supply and it will be very difficult to diagnose.

    I'm considering picking up a used Passport where one channel is completely dead but the other 3 channels work fine. Got any recommendations on how to troubleshoot?

    • @Letsdosomethinguseful
      @Letsdosomethinguseful  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has 4 channels? well, should be easy problem to resolve since the appliance still turns on, that means there is no short, so it must be son loses connection or some problem at the mixer. If it is half the price, I think you can fix it for less than 10 box if DIY. Good luck

    Is there any data out there on the Switched Mode power supply itself? (Schematics, etc...)

    • @Letsdosomethinguseful
      @Letsdosomethinguseful  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't find anhy, but you can easyly replace the power supply with an analog one. Fender did not used a normal power supply in this because the main transformer would be very heavy and this is intended to be portable. But if you are willing to have the extra weight, you can just salvage a power supply form a receiver or other audio equipment with +/- 35 volts for the amplifier and also a +/- 15 volts for the mixer.

    Anyone know if using a 2SA1943OTU would be acceptable? (supports 17A rather than 15A).
    I'm not sure if that would affect other components downstream or simply allow for more heat dissipation.

    • @Letsdosomethinguseful
      @Letsdosomethinguseful  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope you got it done already. I think other transistor with different characteristics could affect the bias and other parts, may be not destroying it but affecting the quality of the sound. Did you replace it? did it work? if not, try using a NTE replacement or the FJA4213, Regards.

    Do you have a schematic for this? I need the fuse rating for the power supply. It's by the transformer and it has heat tubing around it.It says 230-1003. Please help. Thank you.

    • @Letsdosomethinguseful
      @Letsdosomethinguseful  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it is a 6.3A time lag fuse. But you can consult the service manual here: www.manualslib.com/manual/870256/Fender-Passport-Pd-250.html

      @@TheHateuguys - I know it’s 1 year later so this applies to your future DIY projects, but never be afraid to REMOVE factory heat shrinks or cable ties, etc… if they’re blocking your path to figuring out a problem, always remember they can easily be replaced - and in my experience, the replacement will almost ALWAYS BE BETTER when YOU do it, than what you get off the sweat-shop assembly line.
