Good video nice work/craftsmanship , my father bought a 58 and a 63 brand new The video brought back some good memories of growing up and traveling many miles in them. I used to count them on the roads. With a plastic counter that came out of a cereal box At night I could tell a bug from a fa distance because of the 6 volt headlights and my parents could hear me click the counter so they knew if i saw it or not i also knew by the distance of the headlights The only one that tricked me was a very rare appearance of a Jeep in the opposite flow of traffic ! Ive always been a fan of the Aircooled Beetles and VWs my last being a 72 that just rusted away beyond what i thought or was capable of fixing at that time so she got scrapped without the engine ironically the engine is still running in another Bug nearly 40 years later with a few freshen ups over the years but I believe it has the Brazilian pistons and rings i put in around the mid 1980s because I couldn't afford German ones

This is an outstanding job. I am just trying to prove my knowledge. I noticed the following details. This car is 12 volts. The rear lid is from a ‘65 or ‘66. The rear brake drums are from a. ‘66 or ‘67. Fuel pump is from a later model. My perception is that the carburetor is not a 28. Don’t miss understand me. I know that you spent a lot of time doing this project, probably a couple of years. Your detailing is excellent. Congratulations again.
Great eye for the small details! The car had been subject to some modifications during its life. It had been converted to 12volts and I kept it for practical reasons, it had the wider rear axles (hence later drum brakes) and the engine is 1200cc but not matching numbers (1973 model year hence 30pict carburetor and not 28). From some documents I received when I bought the car, I concluded that this is the 3rd engine the car had.. Also, the hood had been replaced at some point because it was green underneath the white paint! From what you can understand, this car had seen a lot! It was a complete car however.

Adjust the valves. Check the leakdown to check rings, valves, and head gaskets. Replace the points and condenser and distributor cap and rotor and plug wires and plugs. Check engine mounts and heater system.
Absolutely amazing bodywork. How did you strip the rust from the larger components like axle, brake drums etc? Working on my own resto and the rust is clinging tenaciously to them.
Thank you for your positive comment! I used wire wheels on an angle grinder to take the old paint and rust off these large mechanical components. Don't use wire wheels on large areas of bodywork (doors, decklid etc), it is highly possible that the panels will warp from the heat created!! Use paint strip disks instead, much safer! Good luck on your resto project!

Yes I did the painting, single stage paint, automotive paint is much more difficult to apply than any other paint, expect to have problems that you will have to correct if you attempt it yourself
You´re welding pieces of metals over metal rusted areas without applying in advance properly clean up of metals (treated with clean up acid for this type of metal), the result will become a mess thru a couple of years using this beetle and it will to present a lot of problems for the future owners.

Only the front seats needed to be retrimmed by a local professional to factory stock specification.
