- Today we go inside and clean out the nasty critter packed 1964 Vw Beetle barn find . It is in need of a serious deep cleaning and a first wash. How bad is it ? Can it be saved ? Check it out , more on this forgotten car soon !

I just luuuuv these videos. My dad owned a '67 beetle in the 70s and I always helped him wash the car. To me, even though I owned a 1303 at one point, the 60s beetles are my favourite. Love the steering wheel with the trim, can't beat bakelite.
Very happy TH-cam is not able to convey smells, I am sure it was as bad as you said, video made me burst out in laughter a couple of times.
Ha, ha! If you have ever cleaned out a car with rodent debris, you already know the smell! The damper the day the stronger the odor.
I would love to find another one of these. I got my first drivers licenes in a vw 63 at 13 years old.

Man I gotta tell you that is a NICE 64.....I am guessing it was in that barn for a long time. all the sound deadener and stuff still there. Buy some of that rust converter and hit those floors with a wrre brush. rust converter and some paint patina it out and drive it just like it is. Those door cards are 1 year only. they had that color in 65 but larger door cards. Rare. Remember I had a 65 panama too.
We have nice rust free cars out here in barns Mike lol . Yes , lots of " one year " , like " small window " steel sunroof

I'm not the neatest guy and have been known to leave my ride too long without a vacuum and a wash. But I never let it go so long I needed to shovel it out! 😊

Life hack: keep the car cover inside the car to keep it in good shape lol - but nice find, cleaning off the dust-webs is always satisfying.

Great Video Jay. OK, so I ended up nearly falling off the couch at least three times; 1.) "Oh, I've got a vision for this one, Its a bit blurry, but I've got one." ( I thought you just had a beer in your hand, but upon re-watching it I realized there was the rest of the empties on the ground next to you :)> 2) "If you hear the kids next door they're just really excited because there's now 27 VW's in my yard." 3.) Being a retired homicide detective, I know a few things about putrid odors. Jason, I used to suck on peppermint candy when retrieving floaters from canals [SW Fla] or 4 day sitting or longer stiffs so try it to see if it helps. Just like I'm happy there is no Smell-a-vision, I'm also grateful there's no "Pew-tube". lol
Gingers looking very solid to be honest, Nice up front under the hood & dash looks nice too. Lets hope the motor un-sticks its self.

A banner clean out for sure. Just one suggestion, use a N95 mask. Groveling around in dried excrement all day then ending up with a solid car is a good day. Getting sick from the dried excrement changes the equation entirely.

Love the vw. You have inspired me to return to my VW roots in the early we had a 70 station wagon and a 71 fast back. I loved them. I am in Newfoundland Canada and there are no vw left here. They use road salt by the ton here. Still looking for a solid body to do a restoration but in the meantime my wife and I bought 2 VW Taos. Beautiful suv!!! Needless to say I am really looking now for my VW restoration.

Nice find. If it's as promising as t looks, and the original engine can be gone through or even rebuilt, clean everything as much as you can, make it safe to drive using original parts, and I think you could say it's a low mileage original car that hasn't necessarily lived a pampered life. It's got a story. I miss my 58. Looking forward to more on this.

Those are some lucky neighbor kids, if I was one of them I’d be over at your house everyday helping out with all those VWs. Can’t wait to see Ginger turn over and run again. NICE looking blue Ghia on the trailer in front of the bug. Hey at least you scored a really nice 4 way lug wrench. Looking forward to the autopsy of the engine. I hope the major parts are still good, or at the very least, the case.

OMG I would love that car! Always wanted a 64
VW beetles (the real ones that is) are the most life like of all cars. My '78 (named Dietrich) only comes out in nice weather and light traffic. He makes friends everywhere he goes. Looking forward to this beetle being brought back to life!

Dude, get yourself a proper respirator...only way I'd touch something in that condition. Go check out Larry from AMMO NYC and see what kind of PPE he wears when dealing with stuff like that.

Wow, this feels like a bit of de ja vu for me. I just did this same cleanout procedure back in early November, but mine wasn't quite as bad. It is always a surprise to see what the mice did and didn't ruin in their quest for housing.

Yes its pretty bad when you have to attack with a spade just in case its previous inhabitants haven't found a new home yet. You need a big stick, some thick gloves and a shop vac with a lot of suck.. At 4.38 i see what was stuck to that ball of stuff on the floor. It looks like ginger pubes but its actually seat stuffing. I can see it coming out of the side of the seat. LOL This car is mousey, very mousey. It looks better now that you have demoused it.. Will it run? You might have to get Mustie around for that.
It's actually in good shape. Will be interesting if the motor frees up

I might have hantavirus after watching that. LOL Looks like a fairly solid car though. Parcel shelf and frunk look nice! Just need to replace the front portion of the floorpans--or the whole floorpans depending.

Great video Jason! That bug deserves to be restored back to excellent condition. Some minor cancer surgery. Some new pans. A good dentless body repair guy could massage that hood out easily. I love unmolested bone stock bugs! Loved seeing the grease pencil marks under the hood. BTW, I know a guy who knows a guy that could refresh that distributor and fuel pump. Sparxwerks! 😉
P.S., a video of you trying to unstuck that engine and will it run would be awesome!

That is turning out to be a nice car. I'm surprised after all the mouse visitation. The dash, parcel shelf, and trunk look pretty nice. And a working sunroof. Your humor is outstanding and I laughed all through the video. Must be the Colorado Kool aid. Looking forward to the wash video and we don't need an engine. VW's are for pushing!

My mom first car was a VW beetle it was a use 1956 beetle she got it in 1963, she wreck it during the winter storm, that was the end of it, it was 1971, that tan color 1963 look better in condition then that other on the trailer, I hope u get that tan 1963 completed restored.

The "966" phone number is New Canaan Ct, which is the next town over from Norwalk where you showed a repair ticket from a shop in another video. Basically the southern end of the state near the NY line. Hint for cleaning the inside is a garden hose and a wet vac. Just soak, then suck... repeat as necessary.... then let dry

Oh man, I could smell the mice from here. Once you've smelled that. you never forget it. Something that might help, if you buy a couple of bars of Irish Spring soap, and cut them in quarters. Put them on a couple of pieces of aluminum foil, and leave the car in the sun with the windows rolled up. Then take a shower with the rest of the soap.
Peel back the layers. Worth saving 😊

Hi Jess, I think it is with the org engine still in it and some odds and ends. It cleaned up pretty well , working on freeing up the stuck engine . Merry Christmas and Happy New year

Jsson that is looking very solid compared to some, it's all there. Might need to do some welding on the bolt on floors! Mind you don't get some disease from that thing though. 😂Now I know why I thought it was yellow. To be fair though I am sure I heard you mention something about yellow when you first looked at it? I am in my 60's so life can start to get confusing. 🤣Anyway I am assuming that THE yellow one will be a parts car perhaps? Love that nickname , Ginger . My old stepmother’s nickname. Ironically she just “ gave “ me her old 69 for graduation ! Regrettably I had a brain tumor and comatose hibernation for nine years after. Bye bye Beetle, but HEY that was 91 to 2002 and I just hope someone has that 69 back in action somewhere ! ( and YEAH that’d just be great if it was named Ginger ! )
