    "Breathe a little bit behind you." That was the solution to my breathing woes. Trust me this little detail brings your breathing-arm coordination together. You can go faster, it's easier, more efficient, you don't tire so easily, you get more time to breathe and the whole process becomes smoother! I discovered it by mistake this past weekend and boy did I start gliding!

    • @RocketSwimming

      Yes, it's gamechanger for a majority of swimmers. Most swimmers tend to breathe on the side and beginners breathe in front of them which is totally wrong. Breathing behind you is the most efficient way when swimming freestyle.

    Yes!!!! Yes, yes, yes! I go back to my class on Monday and I'm gonna try breathing behind me! Thinking back at how much water I drank, every time I turned my head I was drinking 'bow water'. My instructor says my form is really good, my legs are good, everything is good but I always drink water and it makes me stop. This little difference is all I need to finally go the whole length of the pool. As of now, I can make it about halfway, it's just that breath that messes me up.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update:I didn't drink any water, it went very well. Now I just have to work on not trying to swim so hard. My instructor says that I'm too tense so I end up using too much energy and then I get tired way too fast. But my breath has made a drastic improvement, it's crazy how something so simple can make such a huge difference.

    I’m so excited that I’ve found this channel. Your decision to commit such a large portion of your energy to teaching people how to swim is so inspiring in more ways than you think… LIFE CHANGING MAN!!! thanks for what you do and have done!!!
    I so bad want to be the guy who can get in a pool and swim 10-20 laps but the fact is, after 1 trip down the pool I need to hold on the edge and gather myself, by the time I make it back to where I started, I’m so physically exhausted I pretty much need to climb out of the pool and lay on the side to catch my breath. Im not sure why swimming is so hard for me as I played multiple sports pretty high up my entire youth and I’m in pretty decent shape as a 40 yr old guy. But swimming requires a HUGE amount of coordination and I just can’t seem to put it all together. Im planning to retire from my corporate job in the next 12 mos and one of my lifelong goals is to become a proficient swimmer and dedicate however much focused energy needed to accomplish this goal. I have 3 young boys and I have a strong desire for them to grow up being able to swim. Let’s be honest (if someone fell in the water beside me and was drowning…. I’d have to run and find somebody who can save them, and if it was one of my kids….. that can’t happen - all because “I can’t swim”. Your videos teach in detail all the things I’m really bad at and do incorrectly. I’m confident that I can learn and become proficient - through your videos and lessons. Thanks man!!! LIFE CHANGING for sure

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I want to sincerely thank you for your wonderful comment. Your words mean a lot to me, and I'm truly glad that my videos are inspiring and helpful to you. Your determination to learn swimming and the importance you place on passing on this skill to your kids is truly admirable.
      Regarding the exhaustion you're facing during swimming, it's not uncommon, especially when starting out. Swimming engages various muscles and requires a different type of endurance than many other sports. Remember, it's okay to start with shorter distances and gradually build up. Focus on your breathing technique and take breaks as needed. Also, try to maintain a relaxed and efficient stroke technique. With consistent practice and gradually increasing the distance, your endurance will improve.
      It's never too late to learn, and I have no doubt that with your dedication and effort, you'll become a proficient swimmer. Keep watching, practicing, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions along the way. You've got this! 🏊‍♂️💪

    I tried your technique this morning and thank God for you.. All this time I thought I needed to keep my head under water until I was out of air.. I ended up always gasping for air , lifting my total head out of the water, only to miss air all together. And I know now that my legs were dropping. Also you’ve got me thinking to keep more air “ in” to stay aligned! That back side breath and keeping my head back down is great!!!!! Somehow when you explain it, I can “ do” it..Now I feel more comfortable and can stick with my freestyle.. You are Great!!! I am a subscriber now and look forward to reviewing all of your videos.. I'll definitely be trying the 2 strokes instead of 3 plus looking behind me instead of to the side and see if I can make it to the deep end. I'm always able to make it to the deep end when doing the back stroke but doing the free style i might make it to where the life guards sit on their throne by the poolside so I'm hoping the 2 strokes and looking behind me will up my game🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️❤❤❤🇬🇧🇯🇲

    Thanks, for the clear instructions. I'm a beginner swimmer for almost two months. I tried it today trying to follow your instructions as best I could. It seems to be a timing issue which I think with practice I will be able to get it. My problem is when I breathe it seems to be mostly shallow breaths. Hopefully with more practice I will be able to get deeper breaths.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm delighted to hear that you've found the channel helpful! Breathing can indeed be a challenge in swimming.
      Breathing Drill:
      1: Begin with a kickboard or pull buoy for buoyancy.
      2: Swim with your face in the water, focusing on your kicking and arm strokes.
      3: When you're ready to breathe, rotate your head to the side (not lifting it out of the water) and take a quick breath.
      4: Exhale gently underwater while keeping your face submerged.
      Alternate sides for breathing.

    Thanks for the breathing behind tip that's what I needed. Disagree on the holding breath stuff though. If you do it right you dont really hold your breath you just slowly exhale for a longer time and breath in a big breath to last you longer. Also pro's hold their breath for the last few meters not to waste time breathing because they can breathe when they stop.

    Great lesson as always. Since I started the front crawl with your tutorial, I've always been focused on "chin up, forehead down" and it's a great tip. My problem is about the amount of air that I should inhale and exhale. Should I empty my lungs before inhaling? I go out of air when I do six kicks per stroke cycle even when I breathe every two strokes. I asked this below another video today and I'm not even giving you a chance to respond 😅 sorry about that.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No worries at all! It's great to see you're actively engaged and seeking answers to improve your swimming technique. Regarding your question, it's generally recommended to exhale gently through your nose or mouth while your face is submerged in the water, and then inhale quickly when you turn your head to breathe. Spit the water (blow) from your lips and breathe behind you. Your breathe starts as soon as your pull starts. You should keep some air in your lungs if possible. Keep up the great work and happy swimming!

    • @babackd.6485
      @babackd.6485 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RocketSwimming these are great tips. I'll do my best to memorize everything you said and apply them in the water. The tricky part is focusing on one thing without ruining everything else. when you said you're breathing starts when your pull starts, are you referring to what you mentioned in the front crawl video? To start turning my head with the pull and breathe in the recovery? Or do you mean that I should inhale when the other hand starts its pulling action?
