Best put one circlip in first. Offer up the piston and push the pin in from the other side. This way it's much less fiddly and of course put loads of rag into the case. Don't want to have to find the circlip when it drops in which it does often, being covered in oil and springy.
Below 7,000 rpm the drag from the piston rings is about the same whether 1 or 2 rings. Above 7,000 the single ring has less drag then the two rings. It's small but measurable and tells you that this engine is built to rev hard and high. The price you pay for that extra performance is a bit more maintenance of the piston and ring.
Got a question just picked up a 86 rm 125 and the dude said it had a 91 rm 125 piston in it 54.00 which I think is stock well I orders a wiseico piston and it says it fits stock 91 rm 125s well my question is will it fit? And it had absolutely no compression so I think they my problem
Broken Sprocket why is that? I heard if you can’t see or feel scratches it’s fine to run as is. I put mine back together without touching the cylinder and it runs 💯
Better to block off your crankcase first then put one circlip into the groove. Offer up the piston and with that one clip fixed the pin cannot slip through and is held ready for the second clip to go in. Drop a clip and you are in for a strip-down to find it. C'mon, you know better than to leave your case open at any time.
Good job mate saving all these build video's for when i finally tackle my 95 rm125 to help me along 👍
Thanks mate good luck with your bike.
Don't know where to get a sleeve for rm 125 94?
Great video, Steve! Gotta love the simplicity of 2 strokes!
Thanks mate 2strokes are great
instablaster...
Great video buddy , so miss the simplicity of working on 2 strokes 🤙🤙 making me wish i kept my CR
Thanks mate there is lots to like about a 2stroke.
Broken Sprocket yes mostly the sound and smell and the band vroooooooooom
Thanks for the upload gonna do my 96 rm 125 this winter
Mate your a god sent from heaven love your videos absolutely amazing 100%
Thanks mate
“Put some lube around the ring” had me DYING💀
Good stuff mate. Nice explanation of the reassembly 👍
Thanks mate appreciate the feedback.
Does ur cylinder have an exhaust bridge ?
If so do you not drill holes to keep the bridge lubed up
It didn't look like the piston had those two tiny holes is it necessary to drill some ?
Do you add oil in before putting on the valve cover. If so how much. All the way to the top or just enough to cover the moving parts?
Great vid steve cant wait to see the bike up and running 😎👍
Me too now we can't ride I can get more done I hope lol...
Great Video! Just wondering, what bore of piston did you use?

hi is there a certain break -in procedure after completing the top in rebuild?.thx
where did you buy your bottle of oil
Fun fact: the rist pin is a gudgeon pin in the UK. Cool vid thanks.
We also call it a gudgeon pin too
Great video, which spark plug did you use?
Single ring pistons trip me out. I understand there is a reason for them, its just weird. To me. Thanks again for the 20%
Thanks mate appreciate the feedback

What Is the link to the top end kit you got?

what size piston did you go with?
Good job steve
Thanks mate..
That bike is going to be awesome
I hope so 😉😄
Cylinder base nuts are 24ftlbs for anyone watching this video. Cylinder head nuts are are 18ft lbs
Is the Wossner piston your preference for the RM125? Or do you use other brands as well.
Wossner is a good piston and so is vortex
Do you have to hone if there are no scratches on the cylinder?
I whoud.
Broken Sprocket why is that? I heard if you can’t see or feel scratches it’s fine to run as is. I put mine back together without touching the cylinder and it runs 💯
Never heard the gudgeon pin called that before.
Yeah it's pretty common thanks mate
what are the specs to tighten the nuts of the cylinder and the head in foot-pound?
18 I believe
i cant find a top end rebuild kit with like a new jug with it can somone helpme
btw i have a 89 rm125
What year RM125 engine is that ?
It's a 2003 RM125

💯% I was thinking of this when editing the video I was to focused on making the video and forget about the rag .
Does anyone know where to buy two stroke dirt bike parts?
Fleabay
You got to lubricate the ring bud 😂
Yeah that didn't sound good lol...
Fix your videos
