I missed an important point, the calipers is a double check, it's technically not accurate enough, especially for the cylinder. You need a bore gauge (expensive) and a micrometer for the piston.

Great tips! Should I feel ok about buying a used bike that was rebuilt with 10 hours on it, after a blow up? Everything on top was replaced, the bottom was apart and cleaned, and the crank runs true. Thanks

If you send your head to Powerseal USA, they're gonna require you to send them the piston you're going to use and they will check it.
this is some great advice. i will be doing this on my next top end. i generally run them quite a long time before changing.

If your piston is scraping oil away, something is worn out or really wrong. Your oil rings should be the only thing scraping oil off the cylinder wall.
Don’t blow it up in the first place. Replace worn parts before catastrophic failure. The real tip is don’t be a moron maintain your bike.
Perfect example of someone that THINKS they know what they are doing.
If you buy the vertex piston kit you have already done all this but if you buy some chinise kit with chinese piston you need to do this shit to do first
