  • I can't wait for Lanterns to come out and for The Green Lanterns to be on screen again! I would be lying though if id say some of these Green lantern decisions weren't at the very least questionable. With Josh Brolin reportedly being offered the role of the DCU's Hal Jordan and the other confirmed lanterns being up there in age as well, it begs the question, what the play with the DCU Green Lanterns? #DCU #greenlantern

    It’s really simple.
Hal as the mentor lantern to the main lantern John Stewart.
    John Stewart the main lantern.
Kyle rayner eventually become the main lantern after John.
If they do a parralax storyline than this is a vague outline of I think they should do.
Hal becomes possessed by parallax like the symbiote affecting Spider-Man.
Parralax Hal kills guy Gardner, which will be the big death of a movie.
John Stewart survives an encounter with hal and escapes and meets Kyle rayner.
Guy Gardner’s ring chooses Kyle rayner.
John and Kyle defeat parralax hal but hal doesn’t die. He realizes what happened and is riddled with guilt causing him to lose his ring.
    Now
John is the mentor to Kyle
    Kyle is the main lantern
Hal goes on a redemption arc of getting the ring back.

I think they gonna introduce Parallax in this universe.

they better, if they introduce him just to kill him off me and alot of fans are gonna be pissed. they could kill him off after losing parallax, and go down the green lantern rebirth route where Hal becomes the spectre, and then breaks free from the spectre and reintroduced with a younger actor, since in that comic he no longer had the white streaks from when he became parallax.

i think an older hal can work, especially since jon's gonna be our main lantern for earth. that said, brolin wouldn't be my first choice. chris pine or olyphant would be great tho

That's the problem, yes older hal can work, but this is to soon. It's unfair because hal jordan never got a good live action version and fans dying to see a good hal live action. And there's a lot of good comic book stories with hal jordan, we want to see the adventure of hal jordan becoming the greatest green lantern, not skipping all that and just go "here you go, an older and experienced hal jordan"

I love it!! We get the older more experienced Hal who is Green Lantern Honor Guard, Honor Guard basically protects Oa/Guardians sector, along with aiding any sectors GL. Special Forces of the GL Core if you will. Could even do the hal jordan became parallax story and do JL trying to stop him! That would be a massive event. Thinking an EPIC fight between Hal/Parallax vs Superman... Sup shows up kinda like in Snyder cut vs Steppenwolf, sups here to save the day audience thinks evil Hal/Parallax is getting an Steppenwolf level ass beating... When in fact Hal/Parallax DEMOLISHES Superman and it seems all hope is lost, causing the.... ZERO HOUR!

Great video. As much as I want Hal jordan to stay for the long run I don’t mind his presence in the dcu to be for like 3 projects if they’re going with the emerald twilight storyline. I don’t mind John Stewart being the main GL in the JLA. I grew up reading pre new 52 hal jordan and I watched JL unlimited when I was younger which made me fw John Stewart. Regardless I’m glad we’re getting both in a proper way. It would be nice to see Kyle rather be introduced down the line during the emerald twilight saga and have John mentor him. You could even have Kyle join the JLA like in the grant Morrison run if they want to retire or have John be apart of the dark stars. After Kyle rayner is when they can introduce jessica cruz and Simon baz. For the new era of GL but that’s way down the line. Seeing this makes me think that Barry Allen is either dead or late in his career. I honestly would be down to see Wally west.

@dro2k728 If they can make the most out the time we have with Hal before he goes parallax it'll go off. That's why I'm glad they're going with a show for the lanterns. So much more time to flesh the characters out and stretch their time. With proper execution, having the 4 earth Gls appear at the same time is going to be insane. Idk why it slipped my mind barry might actually be dead. That's probably next weeks vid. Appreciate you watching dro 🙌💯

I didn't like it at first this change but i kinda see why Gunn is doing this, how to have multiple "human lanterns" without them being repetitive making one the experience one, later Jon the new one, etc.
I really wanted to star basic with Hal (Because we have not a good green lantern movie) but i hope to see the lanterns expand on this universe not even in the Snyder movies they got the spot light

@richardcastillos2896 If they can pull it off it'll be a great way to flesh out all the most iconic lanterns in the same period of time. It's bold but I trust Gunns vision. Appreciate you watching Richard 🙌 💯

I think it is problematic to mock age. People's views on what or who is old shifts over time. Since everything is subjective, performance should be valued more than age. Also, DC comics has portrayed Hal Jordan as an old character. Lastly, since we comic book fans are getting a new cinematic Justice League, we shouldn't spend so much time on Hal Jordan.

    • @ComicConcept
      @ComicConcept  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@seanholmes7482 I'd agree on performance being valued over age, but I think most peoples qualms are on the longevity/quality of the character adaptation based on the age. People are huge fans of Hal Jordan and want him to have his chance to shine at the highest level. If Hal was cast as an 80yr actor, for example, I think people would be reasonably justified in taking issue with that. Gives off a sense that this character is not in their prime, and we'd never get to see them at their truest state. Tv/Movies take so much time, effort, and resources that when they come, you want them to come correct. So I think people being critical of the age is valid to a certain extent. Since John Stewart will be the main GL, it paints a picture that maybe we won't get that much time with Hal and potentially skip some of his best stories. We haven't seen a good live action interpretation, Hal, so I get why people want that. Although I do believe they will do some sort of super ambitious version of rebirth where we get a young Hal back in the mix so all 4 main Gl can share the screen at the same time. Who knows, maybe Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz share the screen too. I'm excited regardless, I think Kyle chandler will do a great job and can't wait to see who's cast as John.

@@ComicConcept . Geez! You do not need to hyperbolize the Hal Jordan problem. I understood your position on "age" two replies ago, and you have some good points. However, I remember Hal Jordan having grey hairs in comics suggesting James Gunn isn't wrong to focus on a middle-aged actor. Gunn said his Lantern movie is a detective story not some origin plot about Hal. Also, the idea behind Gunn's Hal Jordan is to showcase an experienced human Green Lantern tutoring John Stewart. How is John Stewart supposed to respect a tutor that doesn't look like he has "mileage" on him? A MCU recent Spiderman cartoon tried to do the same thing as James Gunn by having Peter Parker be Miles Morales's wall-crawling tutor, but I think the idea failed because Joe Quesada tried to use a child tutor who had less than six months as a crimefighter over an adult schoolteacher theme. Plus, I have issues with the focus on longevity, because it often leads to Hollywood doing too many reboots and recasts to constantly keep fictional comic book characters looking young in movies. Reboots, recasts, and too much focus on age has caused other interesting comic book characters to not get their opportunity in cinema. With exception to fictional Marvel characters like Agatha that are meant to have near-immortality, the DC comics Hal Jordan character isn't immortal. Hal is supposed to be a relatable character with no "longevity" powers. Truthfully, I'm somewhat shocked James Gunn is going with Hal Jordan, given he wasn't DC's first human GL, and the failed attempt at a Green Lantern live action movie should be a caution note everybody. Aside from that, at least you're getting another live action Hal Jordan movie. Personally, I was cheering for DC's Alan Scott to be Gunn's first cinematic Green Lantern, and my reason isn't about a personal hate for Hal. Alan Scott's Green Lantern powers don't work like Hal Jordan or the rest of his GL-corps. Plus, an interesting story in DC comics was developed that merged the first and second human GL powers to create Ion. Lastly, my hope is that James Gunn will eventually give us Green Lantern fans Ion, but I don't see that happening if we're too focused on age.

@seanholmes7482 You can have a tutor that is the same age as you, and you'd be able to respect them because they decide to share with you the knowledge you seek but lack. If my pick for Hal, Chris Pine, was who they actually went with he'd still be at least 10yrs older than John so it would still definitely fall into your acceptable standard for respect or more so seniority.I actually refer to the comics in which Hal has those grey streaks in this video and pose ideas on why Gunn is choosing to go this route with an older Hal rather than take issue with it. I'm totally cool with it, more so just curious on the execution, which I felt might have been the initial misunderstanding. As well as my use of "longevity," referring to how long we'd get to spend with this character in the DCU and not once inferring that Hal Jordan was immortal. I wanna see Sinestro war, War of Lights, and Blackest night and if Hals not there it'll feel kinda weird. I don't think that Hal Jordan was the problem with the 2011 movie, and I'd like for them to not be afraid to show how great Hal can be. I'm not surprised they didn't go with Alan Scott, he's golden age so not really too popular today, especially compared with all his successors. I think if the DCU really goes crazy maybe we get him on a JSA project. I like how abstract of a lantern he is. But even if we agree to disagree, I respect your opinion.

@@ComicConcept , my apologies for missing the "grey streak" comments you posted. Also, I'm glad I was wrong about you being anti-old-people. However, by focusing the "tutor" aspect of my example you miss my point. What is more plausible between being tutored by an adult teacher and child tutor with a few week or months of experience in a particular field? Rather than a child tutor teaching a particular field, I more buy into an adult teacher teaching a student, and I think others would also. Sorry for getting off-topic; lets get back to the main subject of conversation! Putting aside age, when I reflect on Chris Pine's past roles like Captain Kirk, I think there is a sense of "immaturity" as it relates to him that negates what Hal Jordan is. My
view of comic book Hal Jordan isn't too distant from Clark Kent, regarding personality. Hal Jordan isn't "cool or "hip"; he is a simple serviceman. Also, don't misinterpreted my point! I do not believe Hal Jordan is a problem that shouldn't be in movies. I want all comic book characters in movies, but I also think conversations like these hinder that from happening. While you favor War of Lights, I lean towards Green Lantern Ion, and I believe we could both get what we want. By my count, Hal Jordan has had two movie chances to fail. Why can't DC's Alan Scott get at least one shot at a live action movie? Regarding popularity, not popular with whom, and which study says DC's Alan Scott isn't popular? Also, if DC's Alan Scott isn't sellable to buyers, is it because the industry wants us to think this or is that a product of buyer's selection? Full discloser, I'm a DC comics Alan Scott fan! Lastly, regarding how old DC's Alan Scott is, both Batman and Superman were originally close to his age group and JSA team, but movies modify those aspects for their timeline. If two Golden Age characters could get multiple cinematic opportunities like Superman and Batman, why can't Alan Scott get his shot?

I used the example of a tutor being the same age just to show how respect isn't directly correlated to age. Although I'd agree it's more plausible when a person is older to assume they have more experience and one would be more apt to show respect. My intention for Hal has been to be 10 to 15yrs older than John, 45 years old, so their would be enough senority there from Hal but also he wouldn't be 60yrs old with his best days likely behind him. I'd disagree on that interpretation of Chris Pine and Hal. Truthfully I haven't see the Star Trek films in some time but Kirk always came off as cocky, confident and reckless and that all somehow worked for him at the end of the day which is pretty much Hal Jordan in a nut shell. I would say Hal Jordan is pretty cool tbh. I think conversations like these are fine because were just sharing our opinions and ideas without shooting down the idea of any other lanterns ever sharing the screen. I literally think the big 4 will be on screen at the same time. Again I think we can both get what we want as well in terms of stories and characters. I think if the DCU takes off Alan Scott will probably be in a JSA project down the road. I think if you ask anyone who there favorite lantern is it's more than likely not alan scott. Maybe cause of The silver age Green Lantern lore being considered the main cannon as oppose to I believe Alan Scott's lore being more mystical in nature from the golden age. Potentially, it's the recency of the successors. I don't see most people picking Alan over John, Kyle, Hal, or Guy as their favorite lantern. I think Batman and Superman are just a different breed tbh. They've stood the test of time since the golden age.Plus even though their respective lores have been refined over time, the characters of Batman and Superman remained Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent even when the silver age came about like what happened with going from Jay to Barry and Alan to Hal. I don't hate Alan Scott, this is just my perspective. Again we can agree to disagree, it's all good ultimately.
