Alan, thank you so much for the awesome review! I already ordered the XB33 before I saw your video and I'm glad your verdict didn't make me regret my decision. I highly appreciate your analytical, no-nonsense approach to this comparison. Adjusting the volume to actual outputs is a thing other reviewers ought to do aswell, it's the only sensible thing to do. Even though there's some reviewers out there that put a lot of effort into video editing and visuals, your video is the best I've seen. I love your frequency graphs aswell! I'd like to share 2 things that may improve the usefulness of your reviews, but don't get me wrong, this is already the most informative video I've come across on the XB33, but maybe it helps to raise the informative nature of your reviews even further! What would've been awesome is having you adjust the EQ's on the speakers (be it with the added software or with spotify in case you use that) to your own likings, as that's one thing I'll have to find out myself. What will happen if I reduce some of the mids on the XB33 :) Another thing is: maybe you could replace on of the contemporary pop songs for another genre. I love how you added a punky song in the end, but adding another genre may add more information, as it may become more apparent to the viewers what a lack of mids may result in when listening to a genre that actually required mids to get the whole picture. I may be wrong, but a lot of these poppy songs aren't depending much on mids anyway, but the music I listen to generally does. I hope my suggestions don't come across in a negative way, as I highly admire your effort and analytical approach as I said before. I wish you all the best and hope youtube can provide you with the appropriate funds your videos deserve!
if you check out my original xb33 video i did go through what happens when you adjust eq and how its not really that predictable. this tracks thing is an issue. it has to be copyright free and i cant go over too many genres because the videos are long enough as it is. i figure emd and rock is a good test of a full on busy track with a full frequency range so should let you get a sense of what it can do. yes i would love to have more genres and real instruments but it is simply not practical in terms of video length and how long each video already takes for me to get out. these tracks do all cover the full frequency range. when you look at the spectogram you are basically looking for a linear slop down towards 20khz and these tracks do have balance in the mids. i appreciate your feedback but for me at this stage it simply wouldnt work. please dont lose the faith 😋

I have the xb33. A little bit of tweaking on The Equalizer and it's perfect. That's what I don't understand about a lot of these reviews, I don't know about the JBL, but there's a lot of sound customization available for the xb33. Especially when I use it with Poweramp pro and all of its tweaks.

Hi Alan, If possible can you test Harman Kardon Go + Play? I have JBL xtreme 2, but when compared it to HK Go+ Play I was shocked. HK Go+ Play is 5 years old and it sounded much more detailed. The instruments, vocals and base all sounded better. Now I am thinking if I should sell my JBL and get the HK. I was wondering what your opinion would be of HK Go+ Play and if it's worth the change.
The Sony’s small battery size and no AUX in really breaks the deal for me, but I still don’t really like the charge 4, but I understand that it provides better bass. Guess I’ll go with the C4. Always enjoy these videos btw, Alan Ross deserves way more subs.
@@supremevisor this is true, i tried to get that over, charge 4 has bass but its very thin, the xb33 digs deeper, so punch vs rumble. its like xtreme 1 vs 2. depending on how you like your music you will chosoe one over the other.
Also keep all of you informed XB12 is another good choice if you want something pocketable with Bass Beast audio quality, ofcourse XB12 is not comparable to XB33 but where XB12 shines is its portability and ahead of BOSE and JBL in same speakr size department
I have a DINDIN bluetooth speaker, I really like the sound quality, the lighting, it makes me happy every time I use it, I have had it for a year, and this product deserves more love.
I'm happy to see the good Videos of you. After watching I everytime get a good feeling for the sound of the speakers. One question, I know it is a very old speaker, but do you have the Harman Kardon go&play? I still like it very much. At the moment I'm using the go play, the motion+, tribit maxsound+ and partybox100. Had many others, but these are the best in its classes I think. Maybe you can do a little comparison with the harmankardon.

I just bought a Flip 5 and a Charge 4 thinking I could connect them to each other, silly me. I'm now thinking about returning the Charge 4 and getting a xb33 (and forget about connecting it to the flip 5), or maybe just wait for the Charge 5 and pray that JBL will solve their protocol mess lol

Another great review. I bought the xb 33 for 40 bucks after some discounts and its definetly growing on me. The vocals are a little recessed for my liking and the mids are very prominent but tweeking them in the app fixed most issues. It has a very nice full sound and the bass is suprisingly strong. It really needs at least a 5 band eq though because i noticed adjusting one frequency tends to cause unwanted tweeks in adjacent frequencies. Overall i dig it and for 40 bucks it was a no brainer.
exactly, i tried to mention this before. the sliders dont work as you would expect and have a relative effect rather than a frequency effect. it used to work when you could use it on top of clear audio but now you cant do that and its like they dont want you to find better settings using a custom eq.

Question: how come the DB at max volume on charge 4 is 96. But in your other video when you compared it to charge 3 and called it charge 3.5 the DB at max volume is around 91.4?
because its track dependent, it varies depending on the track. also this is not a max reading but a peak reading, they are not the same thing. you should use my peak as a measure only per video, not between videos.

Why wasn’t the Sony speaker’s “EQ’ed” in this test? By doing so, you could’ve lowered the “MIDs” and increased the BASS. You need to have your eyebrows threaded if you’re going blonde😁
I explained this. The sony eq doesnt improve the sound much, its subtle compared to clear audio. You cant change one slider without effecting others. For exanple pushing bass increases upper bass but you lose a little deep bass. Pushing mids reduces highs. The sliders are not frequency specific. It only really helps at high volume. For this reason i onky used it at max. On the other hand the motion plus has a proper equaliser and the difference is night and day. When you use the sony eq it changes volume which people probably hear as better dynamics but once you normalise the before and after the difference is small.

C4 provides less bass than xb33. Especially, in low range.

bass beast? 😋 sounds a bit screechy to me. especially at max volume. it is cute size but the minirig mini kills it albeit for a lot more money.
