Been waiting for this review from you! I have four Minirig 3s and one version 2 sub and one version 3 sub. When I found out that the Minirig 4 wasn't backwards compatible with the 3, I lost it! Took it personal I told them I won't be buying the 4 just to daisy-chain them to my 3s with 6 cables or whatever. Not worth it Appreciate your work!
Keep doing what you're doing, Alan! 🙂 You're honest, pragmatic and dare I say amusing lol You have opinions and you back them up with evidence! Whether someone else agrees is neither here no there. Looking forward to the next video.
ive given up on minirig, its not the company i once knew. All my minrigs have had issues. I have two subs, one dont work at all, the other only sometimes works with my mk4s.
The mk3 is better as an alone speaker, but i think the mk4 is made to be paired to the minirig sub, Wich would explaines the reduced bass and bigger treble
@@Starvinmarvin1111-u4k thats what i was saying. the mk3 sub was released AFTER the mk3 itself was releases and was tuned to better match it than the mk2 sub.
Is there any other speaker of comparible quality for this form factor size? The size is huge for me I use minirig 4 as a delivery driver easy to stash in my rucksack sound quality and build quality seem great and definitely loud enough. Really enjoy the vids Alan thanks
@@ralfsta define quality, the lack of deeper bass is an issue for me. I mean for same money the hk luna can do some serious bass but not as neutral elsewhere. Always comes down to personal requirements and ears.
Mk. 4 has been a mixed experience for me. The app is not good due to the loss of so many features and it still doesn't work smoothly..music stutters and skips while the app is connected. The EQ lacks optimization, I get volume fluctuations and/or distortion with bass pushed too far when past 60% volume. There should be bass reductions in place to keep the output steady and undistorted like any other decent speaker has. My volume up button began rattling at some point, I managed to jam a small sliver of plastic in the gap to hold it steady. But ultimately I really like how it sounds with some eq adjustments. It's just hard to justify the price tag when it feels more like a DIY build than an official product with many years of development behind it.
im afraid i agree with much of this, ultimately if you really value sound its worth persevering with and getting into the whole eco system. but they never acknowledge issues till they fix them or come out with a new speaker. however to have LESS bass 5 years later? when i mentioned this iw as told they knew i wouldnt like the bass, im afraid thats where we are now with a company we supported for so long.
That Minirig platform looks like it was designed by separate committees. Why is the subwoofer's diameter different to the main speakers? Why do they have to be wired together, rather than use pairing? Why isn't the subwoofer provided with attachments that could be used to physically connect the subwoofer and two satellites together so they can be carried as one unit?
😝 i dunno! the subwoofer is ported of course so needs some volume. as for attachments, cradles and feet etc Minirig have missed a trick here as there is already a third party market selling stuff for this. honestly after 5 years im not sure why we got this mk4 like this.
23 mins, yeah I can hear the difference. Bass is only slightly less on mk 4 which is overall brighter. @75% mk 4 sounds a bit bright. I prefer the mk 3 sound. @100% they both sound shit. Hence the sub though right? Nothing is going to sound good at 100%. My Denons don't. Speaking of which Alan, both need new batteries! Fancy doing a battery change instruction video for the Denon 250bt?
not really 🤣 and that bass was after a bit of tweaking by them for the first firmware. and i want to know why early versions have a different reset mode. what changed from early versions, im already pissed that as an early buyer at full price features including the app were not ready. They sent me a link to get app going but really it should have been out in the wild at launch. They really werent happy with my feedback.
I tried a Mk4 and ended up returning it and selling my full set of Mk3s with subwoofer. Not knowing if/when a Mk4 sub is coming isn’t good enough for me, and a wired system just isn’t always practical. I’ve temporarily gone with a Boom 2 for now, but I don’t see how these companies with all that R&D can’t just get a speaker right.
@@sunilbanga4623 you mean soundcore or minirig? Minirig being a one man outfit. Soundcore however are simply scrapping every inch of margin they can and trading off the value for money name they made for themselves.
It sounds like a case of 1 step forward and 2 steps back going from the MK3 to MK4. I realize they're a smaller company and don't have the resources JBL, Bose, and Sony do but no one wants to throw their hard earned 💰 on something that only works the way it's supposed to part of the time. I think it's kind of sad that as much time that has passed since the MK3 was released until the MK4 that it can't really be considered an upgrade on most/all fronts. I guess the tuning is up to preference but it's a step in the opposite direction of what I'd want from 3 to 4 as well. That battery move is straight from a Harman Kardon playbook, imho. 😂 I've always been interested in the minirigs but it seems like too much of a hassle for the price and not enough of a return on a significant investment. I think the idea is great but just needs a better implementation. Hopefully, they'll get it right eventually or someone else will release a very similar product that does at some point in time. Anyway, thank you for another awesome review and comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏
I bought 2 minirig minis and a mini sub based on Z reviews video and your review. I still use them as desktop office speakers but I don't see myself upgrading. They are very pricey and the new versions just don't seem to be worth it.
its just my opinion at the end of the day but i have been disappointed but in tws mode they sound good enough to save the day for me. but a single one not so much. they should have just made it bigger.

I'm lucky to live a few minutes away from their depot. Ive always mentioned having to get those half decent stands. Also they reduced the equaliser, as not many were using it? 2 4's ,2 subs amd 2 minis ,like what you reviewed a few years back ,is the best sounding , but does hit the wallet.
@alanrossreviews Only the pretty ladies and the repair man! These are expensive, but I think this is a speaker for clarity hifi sounding . Party speakers literally for that? I use 2 4's sometimes as computer monitor speakers and they're great for that and using them on a mixer ,no latency is a win also . I just think most would want more for their money, but nice to support an English company and not bias as I moved to Bristol. (Better than Crawley ) 😁
yes its geared that way but still lacks enough extension for the discerning ear. rolling off from 100hz loses so much of the track and the sub is too punchy.
I really liked the minirig 4 and sub but bit expensive for a none waterproof speaker and getting it to work with the app can be a bit fiddly. What I did like was you could choose which speaker was left right or mono
@@alanrossreviews you can if you turn the bass up on the app and keep mids and highs in the middle, it acts as like a modified high gain button where you can alter the volume of the bass separate to the mids and highs
