Great and super useful video! I’ve been looking forward to this one since EX30 has been released and so far you are the only who has done a proper boot test. Thank you!
I appreciate all your demos of Volvo cars boot space. I didn't expect the largest suitcase to fit EX-30 boot ) good. But XC40 is the obvious winner. Not just because of bootspace but also due to lots of "small" details like instrument cluster, range or the country of production, I see no reasonable argument to choose EX30.
@@luisalfonsodl1364 It only means that VIN info doesn't correspond to real facts. XC40 is produced in Belgium, and EX30 in China. Volvo plans to produce EX30 in Europe only in 2025.
Great test! It is odd that the EX30 has that "lip" at the base of the trunk, whereas the XC40 does not. It seems very annoying. I wonder why Volvo went with that design. Sometimes Volvo makes the weirdest design choices. Questions: 1. Do the rear seats fold 100% flat? 2. Do you know if the front passenger seat folds flat? That has always been a favorite Volvo feature of mine. It's very handy when you need extra room for very long objects and if you need to really maximize space.
Are the question regarding EX30? If so. The seats doesn't full 100% flat. It's maybe like 90%. Question 2. Didn't check, but usually electric seats doesn't fold.. So don't think it will fold here. Maybe if you don't have electric adjustable passenger seat
Good comparison. Some information I've found on the internet. Volvo XC40 has 432L trunk capacity. If you fold the rear seats then you get 1328 L capacity Volvo EX30 has 318L trunk capacity. If you fold the rear seats then you get 904 L capacity.
Hi Kristian, thanks for another great video. I love your passion, thanks for that as well. I have a question: In NL the EX30 and base model Polestar 2 are currently the same pricing. Wich one should we choose? It is almost the same car, with just some small diferences. Wich would you choose?
Appreciate your feedback, so thanks so much 🙌 No there's huge differences here. The Polestar 2 are on the same platform as the XC40. So that's one size up in all parameters. Maybe beside space. But compared to the EX30, will the Polestar 2 offer (in my opinion) better seats, better noise insulation, higher interior qualities, physical buttons, better ergonomics, and more practical with the kick sensor luggage door. There's definitely advantages with the EX30, but the Polestar 2 are more car. Would highly recommend a testdrive of both, and then see what you prefer.

You store far too much luggage in the XC40 in my opinion. For safety reasons in my country it is not allowed to block the view through the rear window, so you're not allowed to pile up the luggage up till the roof. Besides that it's important to always have a clear view from the rear view mirror to see what's happening behind you while you're driving.
What country are that? Sounds very doubtful.. Don't you have outer mirrors on your cars? Never heard about legislation regarding that. What about commercial vehicles without rear view mirror. Either way. Here in Norway we don't have such stupid rules. So just fill it up and use the outer mirrors.
Thanks 🙏 Kristian for this interesting video! It's probably possible to even go on holiday with two kids with the EX30 if you use a roof box or am I wrong?
Yes I know but it’s rare that more than 3 people are with us. And I really love the size of the EX30. Just for twice a year I don’t think we need a bigger car as we could use the roof box instead even I know it’s not so comfortable. But we won’t drive all around Europe 😉
apples and oranges..they are in different classes, the ex30 is the size of a megane 2 hatchback (with lifted ground clearance), while the sc40 is in the next higher class segment That's how small the ex30 is. Plus, stacking the bags up to the roof and blocking rear vision, you absolutelly fail as a driver. You stack them vertically and fill how many you can until the rear window line, NOT BLOCKING REAR WINDOW. ANd the rest you put inside, because you never shold've gotten so many bags in the firs place.
Completely wrong! You don't place them inside. With Volvo's cargo steel grid or net you can definitely load all the way up to the roof. You don't need visibility out the inner mirror either. You just use the outer mirrors instead. Safety first so luggage stays in the luggage room, and people in the cabin. And what's the apples and oranges thought? 🤣 This was a quick comparison so see the differences between these two small electric cars by Volvo. For those who are curious about luggage capacity in the EX30 vs XC40/EX40.
Yeah, but then this test wouldn't make so much sense. And also it would make the safety aspect more challenging. I want to just see and compare the luggage room
Hi Kristian, I think the result can be even better. Can't the 2 largest suitcases be in front of each other? And then the medium-sized suitcase next to it. Then the other medium suitcase can be placed on top with the bag next to it. only the small suitcase would not fit in this case.
@@volvo_kristian Maybe the best thing is for car manufacturers to remove the interior mirror once and for all... after all, we discovered that they are useless.
