Allowing the strap to roll at one end with eventually cause the awning to roll uneven. Best to move the strap into the middle of the awning and let it roll up at a slight angle to stop a lump in the awning roof.
This I've tried to do as you suggested and I found it to be the complete opposite and I had a lump in the middle of the awning, plus the strap disappeared and was hard to reach when opening 😭 I've come to the conclusion to move the strap to different spots each roll up and it seems to work on keeping everything even. Trial and error I Guess, but thanks for the thoughts

Could of used this a few weeks ago when I had to pack my mums awning up for her, was a trial and error attempt !! 🤦🏼♂️🤣
