Now you're heading into my part of the country, Scott. I can't wait to see what kind of trouble you get yourself into here in the Deep South! Here's wishing you safe travels, good picking and tons of fun. Y'all come back now, ya hear!
My grandparents had Aladdin lamps in that same mold - just a much darker shade of green. Then my parents also used them for years, followed by me, then my son, and now my granddaughter is using them - 5 generations so far. LOL
Thank you for taking us along Thrifting as you travel to meet up with your friends! Interesting to see prices in different parts of the country. Definitely not thrift store prices. Look forward to more videos from you and the gang. Safe travels and enjoy your trip🧡🙏🍁🎃
Yes, that was Queen Victoria, yes her husband was Prince Albert and YES she only wore back after his death. Seeing her in a colorful dress threw us both off. You were spot on.
Dropping a second comment to follow up on my first one about high prices in The South. It really frustrates me too because I recall when I was a kid in the 70s, my mother getting all kinds of fabulous things really cheap or people just gave her things. You would be driving down some Georgia back road and see a gorgeous bed frame on the porch of an old house, get out of your car and walk right up and chances are some old guy would sell it to you for 20 bucks or something. Even in the 80s and 90s, when prices on glassware and pottery were high, you could still find those treasures in old gas stations or even falling down houses that were abandoned. I knew people who opened up homes of deceased relatives and they allowed people to come take whatever they wanted. Now...everything is behind glass in locked cabinets with a sky-high price. The charm is gone and the thrill of the hunt and finding gorgeousness "in the wild" doesn't exist anymore for us.
The 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago was referred to as “The White City” as in Erik Larson’s book titled “The Devil in the White City “. The main buildings of the Fair were painted white.
Hi Scott, Welcome to Tennessee. I’m so excited that you and the gang are visiting our beautiful state. I’m looking 👀 forward to the fun and adventures. I hope you all find some wonderful treasures 😊
Really appreciate all the care & attention you put into filming Scott. Also helpful to see price comparisons in different locales. This is “pleasurable learning” & the most fun of any class yet 🥰! Safe travels 🙏 .
I live in E Tennessee and it’s been so dry I don’t expect much color this year. I’m heading to Pa, Delaware and Jersey in 2 weeks and looking forward to great antiquing !
Glad you were careful going through those mountains. Hope you can stop at Antiques on 231 in Lebanon, TN - If you do, say hi to Susan the "Old So-n-So"!
Have you ever been to the Phillipsburg Antique Mall in Phillipsburg NJ? I haven't been there in a while they have 2 floors of many interesting things. Thanks for your comments and songs 🎵 you crack me up🤣. Safe travels 🙏.
I'm from Philadelphia and have been living in Greensboro NC for about 20 years. One of the reasons I love watching your show is seeing the great finds from the 20's and 30's like I used to be able to find in Philly. You just don't see that type of thing down here but they have other wonderful things with pottery, artwork, antique furniture and cast iron. I saw one cast iron frying pan that must have been 18" in diameter. I don't know how anyone could pick it up when it was full of chicken. And you'll find a lot of Alma(s) here, but curiously few Kathy(s). And did you get to drive over Black Mountain? That's fun, that is if you want to see your life pass before your eyes. I will say I was once blessed, while leaving TN on my way to NC over Black Mountain, to see why they are called the Smokey Mountains. Laced through the mountains were swaths of grey smoke and the light had a glassine quality. I'm being overly poetic but it all looked so magical and beautiful. Safe travels Scott!
Greensboro, Battle of Guilford Courthouse in the Revolutionary War fought on my family’s farm. There was an antique store on their old land and I bought a “remember me” mug. The ruby glasses made me think of that. Be safe on your travels and thanks for taking us along.
I am surprised at how high some prices were in the shops there. If you're ever in Massachusetts, you'll have to stop at the antique mall on canal street in lawrence mass. It's a factory building that is huge and covers two full floors. You might enjoy browsing there. My sister and I said you could spend an entire day in there.
I saw many plastic owls on neighbors roofs here in my town. I found out later they had koi ponds in their backyards. It was to scare off birds from plucking the fish out. I begged my husband for one at Home Depot. His argument was we had no Koi ponds. 😊
I'm happy and jealous at the same time for/ of you and Texas Uprising road trippen. You make me think I need to sell my hoard of "stuff and jewelry that's packed away in the garage", buy a van (I'll need something to haul back all I buy along the way...lol) and go somewhere next Spring besides over to the Mississippi River. Have a great adventure Scott!
See how lucky you are! Where you shop the prices are great, and such good things you find! Here in the south, Goodwill thinks it's an antique store with the pricing. Have a fabulous trip, and stay safe!
Fun video Scott love seeing what other shops have and prices. Putting an owl on your roof or property in hopes that birds (animals) will recognize the owl shape and stay away. 🦉😀🐈⬛
Scott, I see you're on your road trip, and I'm glad you're getting a look-see at how expensive antiques are down here in The South. We have 2 choices, thrift stores that are disappointing at best, and antique stores that are overpriced at worst. Additionally, I'll forgive you for that opening sequence because you're generally adorable most of the time. 😊 But you know I'm in Georgia and there's a historic marker less than a mile from my house labeled "Sherman's Right Wing". I've read stacks of books and could talk for hours about it, and well...how I do run on! Shuttin' my mouth now. I hope you have a fun trip!
@@sandragarcia4404 I live in a tiny little town between Statesboro and Savannah. I do have to extend you my sympathy if you live in Atlanta. It's definitely not what it used to be, and I always tell people if they've only been to Atlanta, they've not really been to Georgia.
I’ve been thinking of moving to Tennessee. I have ancestors who settled there many moons ago. A fiend of mine recently moved to South Carolina and she loves it in the south. I hope y’all have a fantastic time and I’m looking forward to seeing your adventures and shenanigans. 😁
Every time I see fireking in the peach color, it brings back memories and not necessarily good ones. My mom had a set she used to put pudding in when she made pudding. It always seemed gritty when she used those vs the clear glass ones. I thought those ramkins were pretty but not sure if it was the glass or the pudding. Instant had just come out vs the cooked one so not sure which one was causing the gritty feeling.
@4:51 I have those red lid milk glass spice jars and caddy. Missing 2 jars and the labels but was able to find replacement labels. Would be so great to find 2 more jars. I sell small items in my friends vintage store. I don’t know how ppl sell stuff for such high prices. We’re on the mind set that if it doesn’t sell in a few months we slash the price so we don’t become a museum. Like the Hoosier jars 😳😳😳🤦🏼♀️
Yes it was interesting but not just for the prices but the difference in what those antique shops carry and what our local ones carry.... tons of glassware there and hardly any here for one thing, I swear based on what i find in thrift stores etc. our area is all antiqued out lol. And you're not in jersey anymore but here i am at the jersey shore for my vacay lol
I wish resellers would look at the books which is one of my greatest interests for selling. Sorry you didn't have the time. Great to see your comments in antique stores. Happy journey to be with your friends! ❣Noelle Stiles
Prices seemed high but maybe antiques are harder to get in that area. I almost burnt my antique mall down with a regular bulb in a light globe! I only use cool lights now
Scott you must have passed by our house. We were at that mall a few months ago. Carson recognized the booth with the Victoria crate. I can hook you up with a tour of the largest collection of phonographs right by me. Have fun on your trip!!
Owls scare away birds. I have one, and I put it on the railing of my deck. The birds love the little buds when my wisteria starts to bud out. No wisteria blooms are the result.
Hey and bye Scott. You must have passed by my part of NC which is Wilkes and Watauga counties where I grew up and went to college in Boone. My only child is getting married this weekend in Marion, NC, not far from where you are traveling. I am hoping the approaching Hurricane Helene does not create any havoc on her special day. You will probably be out of that area before the Hurricane can catch up with you. Take care.😊
We go to antique malls near us often. Usually just look for the booths closing 30-50% off. I find some goodies or an item to resell. But prices in NC are crazy.
Hi Scott! I’m in Lenoir NC if you’re coming my way, let’s have coffee and make sure you stop by “Dead People’s Stuff” in Lenoir. It’s a great resale store!
The prices are surely showing what the rare things are going for. However, when my family is selling our pieces, everyone is saying nobody is buying antiques.
I know that you are not a prying kind of guy, but please ask these malls for some booth space rental fees and if they have waiting lists. How long are the waiting lists? Those financial considerations as well as foot traffic helped me set profit margins and markups . Of course, do you just need storage space? Or, Do you want to sell things (volume)? Or, Are you willing to wait 2 years for the right high end buyer? A booth filled (50%) with $10-$20 items pays the rent. I caught more bottom feeder impulse buyers, than I ever did serious investors. An old fart dealer here, willing to share worthless business advice. I guarantee I will not make you rich, maybe not even make enough money to pay the water and electric bill. LOL.
You are so right about the small price impulse buyers. I have a booth in a large antique mall in Southern Calif. and the littles pay the rent, 12% commission, with a very small profit. I keep my prices below “sold” eBay prices. I’m not in it for profit. I do it for the love of everything old and treasured.

Bats🤣 thanks for the shop along Scott. It was fun. Don't get to do that much anymore. Come to Maine, we have fall color!🥰
Buncombe County girl here..... welcome. The owls are to keep predators away.....for example hawks from the chicken pens.
I'm in Buncombe County, too! Howdy, neighbor!
