- In this video I show the current state of improvements
in WIP version 2 compared to WIP-1.
source videos are completely re-recorded for better colors.
framerate is now 30 instead of 60 for more cinematic look.
a few selected clips with improved faces. (experimental)
additional languages: french, japanese
a few additional space scenes are still in work (not in the video)
WIP 1 was already brilliant. This is certainly taking it to the next level. Also, I'm glad you are adding some game play sequences as that will improve the story flow too. GREAT job!!! 🙂
Awesome work! I know the game was launched on different platforms so maybe one has better encoded video than the others. What source did you used? Also, I'm into this kind of rabbit holes, so do you know where I can get a little sample of the raw 320x160@15p footage to play with? Thank you very much, and keep on :)

The new Ai remaster looks more natural to me with the color correction along with facial recovery. There were certain areas I spotted where the previous Ai remaster had colors that blended with the environments hiding in some of the details. Looks like they get resolved here with the new Ai remaster. What I like about this is that it’s true to its source and not pulling a George Lucas trickery on this source. Fantastic work!
Really wish EA woudl make a remake of this game for modern consoles and VR headset, it be great!
Beautiful work! I am amused by the lack of ghosting in the eyes. Now also, the hair on the kilrathi are much much better. Congrats!

As far as color correction goes, I'm not sure, most of the time WP1 looks a little more correct than WP2, for example, on the Kilrathi throne, WP1 looks like the letters are of a more fluid lava, and in the scene on Jupiter, the spacecraft's engines feel more natural on WP1 as well as the colors of Jupiter itself, However, in the faces, they undoubtedly feel better in WP2.
WP2 has the correct colors. WP1 has a green tint and some color shifts, because the video extraction tool did not convert the colors correctly. WP2 also has sharper color edges, which can be seen in the symbols on the throne.

I can spot Topaz Video AI anywhere hehe, Topaz Video AI v4 is out and a lot better now, i'd try using artemis to upscale it to close to 4k keeping it close to the 2:1 ratio then running the Iris enhancement over the top of that to get the best results
Unfortunately, the current version of Topaz 4.x doesn't produce quite as detailed images as the older versions, and the face refinement in the latest version is blured and not as good as Gigapixel. I am constantly testing. Sometimes Topaz updates are unfortunately a step backwards with this type of video source material. 160p is very difficult to upscale and I don't want fake-faces.

I'm still working on it, but unfortunately it will take some time. The biggest time waster at the moment are the 4 language versions of the space-gameplay.
Any updates to this? It seems this channel has not made any updates since this WIP version 2 was released; but I was really hoping to see the finalized version 😃
I'm still working on WIP version 2 (not the final one) and it will come this year. This year is also the 30th anniversary of Wing Commander 3 ...wow

Can you do a comparison video between your upscale and the original 320x160p15?
NB yeah 30fps is more "cinematic" but we don't live in the 20th century any more, and I can do without the juddering just like I can do without 320x160 graininess.
Question i see you have it in german and Japanese.
was that already included in the game or did you use AI to simulate those voices and if so could it be done in other languges such as Danish?
Also EA (who owns the rights to Wing Commander) should serious send you an all others working on this project a letter basically saying "We will pay you to work full time one this and all the other FMV games we own.
So come work for us"
The four languages were already available in the original. Japanese and French were only available in the PS1 version.

Yes there will be a french version, but i'm not sure if the ingame flight scenes will be also in french or only english.

@@HBKtheTO yea but I have then cut and capture 4 languages and the biggest difficulty will be japanese, because I don't understand japanese and also no french :) .Let's see ... maybe I will put some gameplay in french or after wip-2 there will be a final version with a complete translation and new special effects.
Etwas sauberer wie zuvor, aber das Hauptproblem sind aber wie bisher die Artefakte bei den Gesichtern der Menschen in der zweiten und dritten Reihe. Aber das Quellmaterial wird wohl nicht viel mehr hergeben. Top Job!
Ja das Quellmaterial ist leider sehr schlecht und bei Personen im Hintergrund sind es dann nur ein paar Pixel. Im besten Fall bekommst du bei Einzelbildern noch irgendein Gesicht, was aber mit der realen Person nicht mehr viel zu tun hat und in Bewegung kannst es dann ganz vergessen. Vielleicht wird es in ein paar Jahren noch bessere Software geben. Der Zeitaufwand bei einem Film mit 2h ist natürlich auch noch was anderes, da hier viel von hand optimiert werden muss. Ärgerlich ist natürlich auch wenn du viel Zeit investiert hast und dann ein Update der Software kommt mit kleinen Verbesserungen. Wäre wirklich echt genial, wenn von Wing Commander 3 ein Remake kommen würde.
@@cd1188_entertainment Entweder das oder die Master-Tapes der Zwischensequenzen tauchen mit etwas Glück in gutem Zustand wieder auf.
So wie ich die Kollegen des Wing Commander CICs kenne werden sie bestimmt eines Tages diese Bänder ausgraben. 🙂
@@FekLeyrTarg Das Wiederherstellen und Scannen der Masterbänder in echtem und nativem 4K mit Bereinigung (was meiner Meinung nach viel Arbeit erfordert, wenn man einen auf Film gedrehten Film für ihre 4K-Veröffentlichungen remastert) wäre für langjährige Fans von WCIII ein wahrgewordener Traum.
@@cd1188_entertainment Ein Remake wäre echt super, aber da sieht es wohl eher düster aus. Aber egal - was Du aus dem alten Material herausholen konntest ist wirklich sehr beeindruckend. Respekt für diese gute Arbeit. Würde mich über WC3 und WC4 in voller Länge - in dieser V2-Version-Qualität und in deutsch vor Freude im Kreise drehen!!!
