I love both, but haven’t got into slipknot as much as I have with SOAD, still haven’t finished on slipknot album, but I listened to all of the syndrome of a down songs, some of two of Serj’s songs and a little of SCARS on Broadway, but Daron’s riffs are amazing as hell and unique, after all he also writes the songs.

System have to be one of the greatest bands in history. They're the most unique band I've ever seen. I like both bands, but SOAD always sticks as my S tier, one of my favourite bands.

I mean Slipknot isn’t completely nonsensical chugging, but I’d have to agree that SOAD (especially later SOAD) brought a more melodic touch to their music.

Arthur Morgan 1.) I’m sure that there are people who know every song off of every RATM album released.
2.) While I personally enjoy Daron’s guitar playing more, Tom’s style is very experimental and should not be undermined.
3.) I know people who have only ever heard of “Chop Suey!” but could name you 3 RATM songs from the radio.
4.) I’m not sure I would classify them as just “Rap Metal” as they had other influences like hip hop or funk.
While I agree that they should not be compared, it’s not just because one is objectively better than the other. I think that the style of music differs too much between RATM and SOAD to be comparable. Sure, you could classify them both under the broad umbrella of “Alternative Metal”, but that’s too broad of a category to compare the two simply based off of that.
I really like slipknot, don't get me wrong, but the guitars on SOAD sound more interesting to me. They are both great bands though.

what’s disappointing is how with all the system of a down songs he was wildly out of tune and with slipknot he almost always played some of the weaker riffs from songs
like with psychosocial if someone had never heard it the intro would make them wanna go listen to it versus the chorus :/
