Those original trees look like they would've been a nightmare to actually put together. They look like the pieces would constantly fall off, and when they do, it would be annoying to put them back on. I prefer more sparse trees that you can actually handle like a normal Lego set.

I personally love how the new trees create more volume, but are not as dense. So they are able to frame the cabin more fully, with more color but NOT overwhelm the cabin.

I can understand the changes made to the trees due to cost and i really like the colour elements used but the curved branches look really unnatural and jarring.

In regard to the one bed per four figures, I think there are some places where ratios matter and some places where I don’t think people consider the implications of not doing things the way they are done. So for instance, in the at-te, which is a troop carrier, there is basically a full battle pack of troopers in addition to commander Cody and the battle droids. It’s a troop carrier, so it should hold quite a few troopers, including those that come with it and more. It’s normally a problem when that kind of set doesn’t hold the troops it comes with, if not more. I also think the ideas medieval blacksmith, with the one six stud wide bed can’t realistically hold both the husband and wife. Then again, whether it’s his wife is up to the owner of the set and the designers were excited about the techniques that made that bed look so good at that size. I’ve shifted my thinking a bit. There are still cases where I will say that limited capacity is a big problem, but this set is about what it makes you feel more than it is about how many figures it houses. Several figures can hang out in and around it, but it’s not necessarily supposed to sleep a large group. If it is, lego fans can build additional beds and put them in. But here were the designers choices:
    (1) We make the set so it has a bed for each minifigure. We want the set to look good, so we don’t want it to feel crowded, so instead of including four figures, we’ll include two figures and two beds.
    (2) we make the house feel cramped because it’s full of beds instead of fun details and features for the minifigures to enjoy when they are awake.
I think that lego designers know that sleep is not the most important part of a play pattern and that for display purposes, there don’t need to be beds in every room. There just should be a bed so that you can imagine it being a realistic place minifigures would sleep.

I like the new trees better for several reasons. Bushy dense trees are a specific type of conifer tree often found in northern regions around forest edges, lakes, or new growth forests. The branches and leaves on those trees almost always point UPWARDS. They are also evergreens meaning they stay GREEN. The new trees remind me of Douglas firs or other larger conifer trees that do have fewer branches. You would find these trees in an older forests WAY OUT in the wilderness, where a cabin like this would be. The new trees also don't have to be conifers at all, allowing designers to use the autumn colors in the original. This also helps explain fewer leaves...it's fall. For me it all makes total sense. The new trees are just a better fit for an A Frame cabin in my mind. I live in the USA and I know the types of forests we have where cabins exactly like this are found.

Great contents, Tiago! Keep up the great work!

@@Peter_McNutt I know that but it's not something that we have to do often esp when a lot of the sets they're offering use windows/doors/windshields; And with the new softer plastic means that parts are more likely to get scuffed inside the bag during transportation/shipping.

Lego designers admitting they build around the price of the set it seems like they’ve really got to make it worth it.
That lego inflation makes this hard to swallow at $180. Maybe if we had a bag of extra leaves to make the trees bushier, as the designers poked at, or more flora/fauna.

The trees are fine in the final set, not as nice as the OG ones but still great. It’s the complete backstory and minifigure change I can’t stand. It’s gone from two brothers seeking out a more simple life in the woods, to being a weekend getaway for a bunch of swinging yuppies (there’s only one bed and 4 adult minifigures remember but I guess that’s why this is considered an 18+ set! 😂) in the original design, each brother had his own bed.

So their excuse is "Yeah we know Andrea came up with this story and idea and you all loved it but we don't care, we're doing our own thing"
The old cabin in the woods away from modern day stuff is what people wanted. That's what they voted for. We already get enough "rich upper class family goes for a weekend" break sets from Lego City and Creator 3 in 1. And even if everyone's not into hunting, why did you have to make it modern? You could've just taken the hunting stuff out and made them foragers. If they wanted to do a getaway from home set, why didn't they just do that on their own instead of botching an existing idea to fit their preferences. Also the fact that they're laughing at the fans and making jokes like the post apocalyptic quip (when the set wasn't even meant to be that) rubs me the wrong way.

    • @NinjaHelpdesk

It was exactly my thoughts that the original premise of two bushwacker dudes in a run down cabin wasn't a theme that would resonate much with average buyer. It's a very cool adult concept art but this will be built by average kids and their parents who probably have been to a standard tourist cabin (or maybe they weren't but have some idea about one) and I see how that has a much wider appeal.

Honestly I don’t care about the trees but I hate the cabin.
The old one had a vibe that says “my great great granddad built this with nothing but his bare hands and a hatchet” and I loved that which is why I voted for it.
The new one looks like a vacation house by the lake that you rent out. Which just doesn’t have the same charm.
    They ruined this model.

They completely missed the point. The set wasn't about escapism vacation, it was about escaping the now and changing your life to a simpler rural life of solitude like many of us desire.

Im sure they chatted with the designer and know quite a bit more about the sets intent than we do. And at the end of the day, it’s about what will sell the best. Would you rather have this version of the a frame cabin, or not have it at all?

At the end of the day, it's what sells the best. I'm more upset they didn't include a black bear🤣 It would've been the perfect set to do so.

Agreed. It went from a couple of Richard Proenneke like brothers living a low tech lifestyle out in the woods, to being a weekend getaway shag pad for 4 adult minifigures- I mean did none of the designers think that it was weird to include 4 adult minifigs and only one bed? I mean even the original design had 2 beds one for each brother. Apparently TLG/the designers are into polygamy/group “stuff” ! 😂

LAME designers excuse on the trees. If the original Idea designer could deliver beautiful pine trees, it was embarrassing to see the Lego cactus “try-out”
For that, I am out ( as would have happily paid more for the Pine trees)
Thanks for the interviewing though !
