    I’ve just done this on my daughter’s Audi A3, left hand driveshaft flange seal in situ in just over an hour.

    I like your homemade torque wrench on the flange (think that’s plenty he says). I’m glad I seen your vid or I would of stripped the flange bolt if I didn’t compress the flange spring first. Great video

    too bad you started the video after the job was done .. if its in the car can you not just lean into it with a small impact gun and after the sroing compresses the thread will catch and press it in ? or is there some special factory procedure to make sure you dont damage the new sel ?

    What size is that bolt you used to set the flange back in? Thred pitch?

    You can easily push the flange in with your hand and start that bolt.

      okay yeah maybe if you put your trans in a vice?

    • @KobusBreed
      @KobusBreed หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope, you can't overcome the spring force with one hand and tighten the M7 bolt at the same time with your other hand.

    It's usually easier to remove the LH flange before removing the gearbox. Makes removal so much easier.

    • @KobusBreed
      @KobusBreed หลายเดือนก่อน

      On mine, it's the removal of the Right-Hand side of the gearbox, the side closest to the right-hand steering wheel.

      @@NarfBLAST would it be possible to weld a front diff on a VW?

    My mk4 is left hand drive! On the passenger side where the bolt threads in, there is nothing anymore! Just a rod, without any hole with threads! So when I try to compress the flange and try to bolt it in there's nothing for it to bolt in to! Where can I find blue prints of the transmission to find out what happened and how to fix it? Please and thank you.

      I heard you have to fish the washer back in the center again for the bolt to to catch , sucks to hear. I took mine off 2 days ago and put them back on so no cold air or dirt enters the diff. Postponed clutch job to tomororw

      been awhile since you commented but figured if anybody in the future is curious, or if you’re still looking for an answer, that washer is on the frontside of the gear in the diff, they’re free floating and only stay in place with that allen through the washer. i had the unfortunate time of spinning the washer, not knowing the gear was on the backside, thinking “oh sweet, it spins. i’ll spin it all the way around and clean the whole surface!” yeah i kept spinning it away and dropped a gear inside the diff lol had to take the whole trans apart to get to the diff and reassemble it. it did let me clean the whole surface like i originally wanted to though 😂 my best advice is to slowly spin the washer back in the direction you think you spun it originally, hope it’s the right direction, and get it lined back up. if you’ve only pushed it about a 1/4”-1” you should be fine, i had to spin mine about 3”-5” before the gear dropped. the washer can also fall separately from the gear and if that’s the case, i know it’s technically possible to fish back up, but even in my experience, doing it with the diff taken apart and on a table, it’s a pain. not impossible, but definitely excessively challenging. godspeed to any that attempt

    How much does these last? I had to change those a year ago because they broke and my gearbox was runined, got a new one and it just started acting up the same way again and I fear it's the seals again
