  • This video explains what an Engel fridge socket it and why its a good option to run you 4x4 fridge. This socket is found on many brands of fridges and often people don't even know they have it so hopefully this video helps you identify this socket on your fridge.

Thanks for uploading this video, Is it safe to use the Engel connection now that it doesn't have a fuse in-between the outlet and the fridge? You have screwed off the cig socket which contains a fuse I believe. Im in a similar situation with my fridge, i'm hoping to use the Engel connection rather then cig. I just don't want to cause any damaged to the fridge or in my case portable lithium battery which has a Engel connection.

No worries mate. often the fuse in the socket will be a thermal blow fuse because a cigarette socket is a poor connection it can cause heat and that fuse is meant to blow on thermal overload. But other brands so have a current rated fuse there but the fridge should its own fuse and even if it didn't there has to be a fuse on the harness that ist plugged into. All of our accessory harness have a fise right at the battery which protects anything plugged into the sockets. Hope that makes sense mate.

Hey mate. Yer you should always have a fuse in the circuit. For instance our acc harnesses have a fuse at the battery and most fridges will have a fuse on the fridge itself. Often the fuse in the cig socket is what is called a thermal blow fuse. That means it blows due to over heating due to a bad connection which is a common problem with a cig socket connection. Hope that make sense. Cheers Kurt

Just go Anderson plug and fuse it at the power source. Done

    Fuse in original plug?

That is a thermo blow fuse so blows under excessive heat, not due to over current and due to the bad connections caused by cig sockets it a wise option. Howerver our accessory harness come with a 15amp current protected fuse as all circuits must be fused.

Is there a fuse in there? If so where is it

No Fuse inside the engle socket part. there is sometimes a thermal blow fuse in the cig socket section that is designed to blow if overheated An electrical current fuse should always be installed near the battery on the harness that runs to the sockets. Also some fridges have a fuse on them but that is on the fridge itself not in the plug.
