I watched the movie Suffragette and really liked it. All these women where so courageous and they changed things to the better, even if they paid a price for themselves. Great video, very well narrated 😊
Hello John. Thank you for bringing this video forward, especially in this year when many countries, including ours, will be preparing for elections. Across the world women will be able to vote for the candidate(s) of their choice. And without the tenacious efforts of the Pankhursts and the many other women, both in Britain and across the world, who fought for us to have this right it would have been a lot later (if ever) in coming. And, as a woman, I will be using the opportunity those women gave me, not only to cast my vote, but to do so with the memory, and gratitude, for what they went through on our behalf.
Emmeline Pankhurst is a hero of mine although I personally feel that she was wrong in advocating violence, arson, major destruction of property and bombing as a way to get the public’s attention. She was canny and tenacious, and those qualities helped her stay the course over many years in finally getting women the vote. Would you consider doing videos about Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton who began the fight for women’s suffrage in the US in 1848? They and women who worked with and trained under them inspired my paternal grandmother, her three older sisters and their mother to march in parades and participate in suffrage rallies in order to support getting the franchise for American women. I’m extremely proud of these ladies. They were fearless women who set a wonderful example for their descendants, especially the female family members. Also, as a result of the example and teachings of these women my dad, his brothers and male cousins were (and continue to be) much more enlightened, respectful and supportive of their wives, daughters and women in general. I didn’t realize how fortunate I was until I left home to go to university. Until he died my dad always encouraged me to follow my dreams. He taught my brothers to follow in his footsteps and we continue to have a great legacy of equality between the sexes in our family.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the inspiring stories of your family. It's amazing to hear how these courageous women have influenced generations of your family. Thank you 😊
