Let charity begin at home . Why not Mr Modi start by living simply and as Prime Minister urgently take steps to halt mega 'development' projects in the himalayas or even other ecologically sensitive zones, of which there are no signs. While Joshimath and other places are crumbling under the weight of development projects and mindless tourism, giant machines are continuing to march ahead for construction of expressways and hydro power projects. In fact even Mansarovar yatra is planned to be made easy and comfortable with highways extending right till there! God save us from the double speak of politicians !
Motorized vehicles (and thus mindless tourism), commercial tree cutting, mining and industry must be prohibited by law in all of hilly regions because that is where the countries rivers originate. People from the plains must become vegans, use public transport, avoid unnecessary travel and shopping and become more sensittive to ecology in general. Else it will not be long before humans perish.
Though we need minerals, the fragile ecosystem of the area does not permit it. It will invite widespread ecological disasters in no time. We need to forget these reserves for a while.
More than Ladakh the repercussions would be more disastrous and unimaginable for the people in down areas. It's cost will be unimaginable and lessons learned will be meaningless for the millions after perishing millions lives
