  • Hello! I have been getting requests (which is so exciting in and of itself!) for a UTI update video addressing my current regimen and answering frequently asked questions. I do my best to answer some of my FAQs in this video, but I also made a blog post answering not only the questions proposed here, but also a few others I’d say count as FAQs!

    FAQs Answered In This Video:
    ✩ Intro: 0:00
✩ Are you still UTI free? 1:53
    ✩ What is your current routine/regimen? 4:23
✩ Can I take D-mannose on an empty stomach? 5:16
✩ Is it the D-mannose or the probiotics that worked for you? 6:31
✩ What does the powder taste like? 7:50
✩ What brand do you recommend? 8:00
✩ Are the pills just as effective as the powder? 8:59
✩ Why did you get chronic UTIs? 9:16
✩ How did you cure an acute UTI with D-mannose? 12:45
✩ Did you wake up at night to take the D-mannose? 13:05
✩ Did you change what you were eating or drinking while trying to cure your acute UTI with D-mannose?
I didn’t change what I was drinking or eating. I still drank coffee and tea, and ate citrusy foods. However, other than UTIs, I don’t think my bladder is very sensitive. Some fluids and foods can be irritating to some people’s bladders (coffee, tea, (even decaf), alcohol, and carbonated beverages are universal irritants), so if you have a sensitive bladder, you can try steering clear of said fluids/foods while you are trying to cure an acute UTI-this just doesn’t seem to apply to my bladder. I also didn’t change how much I was drinking; however, I do try to drink 1.5 - 2 liters of water per day regardless of an infection. I’m also at altitude here in CO!
✩ I tried to cure an acute UTI with the d-mannose, and it made my symptoms better but they are still there. How long should I take the d-mannose before getting antibiotics? 13:51
    → Study mentioned: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
→ “…women with recurrent cystitis can accurately self-diagnose and self-treat UTI as accurately as any physician.”
✩ What else do you to prevent UTIs besides using D-mannose? 15:02
    ✩ Is D-mannose safe for diabetics? 15:51
✩ I heard prolonged use of d-mannose causes kidney infections, damage, and even failure. Are you worried about your kidneys? 16:13
    ✩ D-mannose isn’t working for me, why? 16:58
Other FAQs Not Addressed In The Video:
✩ Where do you buy the powder?
I buy my KAL powder from Amazon, but if you google “KAL D-mannose Powder,” it looks like many online and physical stores sell it!
✩ Is your friend with the spinal cord injury still using d-mannose and how much does she take?
Yes, my friend with the SCI still uses d-mannose. Last I checked, she uses the pills, and takes one serving in the morning and one before bed.
✩ Is it okay to take the d-mannose and antibiotics?
I have in the past without an issue, but you should ask your prescribing physician.
✩ Will d-mannose interact with my birth control?
While I am no longer on hormonal birth control, I took d-mannose while taking the pill and had no issues or change in efficacy. That being said, check with the physician who prescribes your birth control!
✩ Is this regimen safe if I am pregnant?
I have not used d-mannose while pregnant, so I cannot speak to this personally. Ask your physician!
✩ Do you notice you have food sensitivities related to your UTIs?
No! Some foods can irritate some people’s bladders, but this has not been an issue for me to my knowledge.
✩ How much water do you drink?
    1.5 - 2 liters per day.

There are two treatments to UTI aside from taking d-mannose,UVA-ursi, marshmallow rootfrequently(which it didn't cure my condition, it just maintains it)
      1) high dose introvenous vitamin C(IVC 75grams at a 1gm/min infusion rate), I did that frequently more than recommended frequency, I did 3 days in a row with single day rests(3days, 1day rest, 3day, 1 day rest,...)
      2) vaccines, I haven't tried this one yet, called FimCH, ExPEC4V
      3)antibiotics are not a cure

Pelvic Empowerment hi Tory, just wanted to let you know I finally beat the dread chronic UTI I had for the last two years. Turns out I was resistant to macrobid, then tried cipro and did not do the trick either. So I started doing ginger and turmeric shots twice a day, plus the d-mannose, probiotics and enzymes to help me digest food as well. Aldo a clean diet as much as I could. It took a while but I did this religiously everyday up until a few days go. Still doing d-mannose once a day, probiotics and enzymes. Will give ginger shots a break for about to weeks and then start again.

There is one more thing to consider that my doctor did help with. I got an ultrasound and had a small kidney stone that made the passage in my urethra very small. So I had a procedure where they zapped it and broke it into tiny pieces. That also helped a lot.

Some people can be insanely ignorant. UTI’s are not necessarily linked to hygiene. Chronic UTI’s are typically caused by a biofilm that tends to create a coating, making it hard to cure because the biofilm allows the bacteria causing the infection to hide, thus allowing for the infection to return. 😊

I’ve been dealing with chronic UTI’s for almost three years now. I can’t even count how many doctors visits, specialists ive seen and antibiotics I’ve been put on. Each time a UTI would occur, the feeling of depression and hopelessness would come over me. It caused me to miss work and lose my overall quality of life. After consistently taking D Mannose in pill form I was UTI free for about 7 months which was unheard of for me. Unfortunately I am experiencing a flare up right now and am so upset due to the success I was having. Seeing this video about the powder immediately had me purchase it online. This is the first video I’ve come across that I’ve truly identified with and mirrors what I’m going through. Thank you for bringing a little peace of mind to my day 😭

Hi Tori, I know I've told you this before....but you saved my life with D-Mannose. Just wanted to thank you again. I was in a world of hurt until my DMannose arrived by Amazon. I don't say this lightly Tori. I am a cancer survivor, SLE disabled me 20 yrs ago and lifelong Crohn's, lifelong! So at 60 I've lived on steroids more than not. My bladder irregular shape doesn't drain completetly and I get a UTI everytime I catheterize....ugh I QUIT doing that and drink more water and take DMannose daily. I would rather die than self-catheterize so THANK YOU. I was going out of my mind iving on antibiotics and having it raise hell with my Crohn's..... You are an angel. Keep doing what you're doing please. God Bless You!

I follow their protocol which includes DMannose in water every 3 days and some capsules with other things. I did get another so I switched to using their powder every morning and it stopped. Got one more recently so going to use my MicroIngredients D Mannose in a glass of water at night as well, 3/4 tsp as you do. Also I drink something like 8 glasses of water a day. Water is important. Thanks Tori for helping so many women!!!

I was hoping you could make a video about the possible causes of symptoms of a UTI without the actual infection! I have been struggling with this for months and months and would love to hear your thoughts on the possible causes of symptoms of a UTI without the presence of infection/bacteria. :) I would LOVE to see a video like that!! 😊❤️

I hate hearing that you've been navigating UTI-like symptoms for months without having an active infection. I really hope that you are able to find peace in your body and remain kind to yourself during this time.
Thank you so much for the request -- I just added it to my list and would love to make that video!
Until then, have you ruled in/out your pelvic floor? If you think of your pelvic floor like any other muscle, you can imagine that when there is a threat, it tightens up. Kind of like if you were going to be punched in the stomach -- your abdomen might tighten to protect you. The same is true of your pelvic floor when you have a bladder infection, the bladder lives right on top of the pelvic floor and it will sometimes tighten up to protect you.
When someone has chronic infections, sometimes the pelvic floor will forget to let go even after an infection has resolved and it can FEEL like a UTI. I've treated a number of women for this exact presentation in clinic!
If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you: pelvicrehab.com

I have found that if I don't catch the UTI early, the d-mannose powder helps with the symptoms but doesn't knock out the infection. Whereas, if I catch the UTI early (that first "off" pee), I can knock out the infection with the d-mannose!
I hope the powder works for you 💕 again, don't hesitate to ask any questions!

@@allthingsjana7870 I am honored that you're comfortable asking me for guidance; however, I cannot give individualized medical advice. If you're at all concerned and feel you may have started taking the d-mannose "too late," I can only encourage you to check-in with a provider you trust to see if it may be time to start taking antibiotics! I've had experiences where I caught the UTI early enough and was able to treat it with d-mannose, and experiences where I caught the infection "too late" and, while the d-mannose did decrease my symptoms, I ended up needing antibiotics in order to clear it fully. I wish I could be more helpful, and I hope that you get to feeling better soon ❤️

Wow this might actually change my life, been getting UTI's since I was 16 and in the last year or so at least every month. Had resigned myself to knocking back antibiotics after sex and using them to self treat too, but now I think my immune system is knackered; I only need to go out on errands for a few hours and I get sick with something (often more cystitis, yay) and it just really wears away at you when pretty much any fun activity carries a high likelihood of making your life miserable tomorrow. Thank you so much for sharing!

I had a double kidney infection that very quickly turned into sepsis caused by ecoli and I nearly died. After I got back home from hospital 2 weeks later, I was still struggling with slight fever and uti symptoms and was terrified of being rushed back into hospital again.
I started taking d mannose when I heard about the link to ecoli and it definitely helped me. I told my doctor about it and she replied ‘well I don’t know anything about that!’ With an attitude.

I took an antibiotic because I’m not very good at managing the pain, but honestly the progress are very good! And I am SO happy to hear that d-mannose has been such a helpful tool for you, it really did change my life.
      A few things to share:
      1. I highly recommend the d-mannose powder over the pills, not only for trying to treat an acute UTI, but also for preventative doses
      2. I do think it is possible to cure an acute UTI (if it caused by E. coli) with d-mannose, so long as you catch it early!
      3. As far as pain management goes, I really like pyridium -- it is over the counter, and it numbs the bladder (but it will make you urinate bright orange!). I've used pyridium to manage the pain while treating an acute UTI with d-mannose!

Awesome video!!! Love it! If you were to go on a mini getaway for 3 days or so and you know that you will be doing the beach/running/risky behavior type of things all day..would you suggest taking the maximum amount of servings in powder form which would be 2 servings each day or would you suggest more? Do you have to space out when you take the servings? For example: wake up take a serving, go to beach, then maybe go hiking and maybe go dancing later. So all day would be considered risky stuff when you’re away!

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When I partake in all-day risky behavior, I usually take the d-mannose after each activity is over. So I would wake up, take my morning dose, go to the beach/hang out in my bikini, take a second dose, and then go hiking/exercise, take a third dose, and then go dancing in tight clothing and probably take a fourth dose after that. That being said, I'm not sensitive to d-mannose, and I don't often take more than two doses/day, so having a couple of days here and there that are outside of my typical routine doesn't worry me.
That being said, I can't give individualized medical advice! If you aren't sure how much you should be taking and are not comfortable running a sort of trial-and-error experiment with yourself, I can only recommend seeking input from a healthcare provider you trust ❤️
      Enjoy your mini-vacation 🤗

Hi Tori, thank you so much for these super helpful video. I was in the hospital once for 2 weeks because of UTI. And now after 6 months i just got it again. Im on antibiotic prescribed by doctor and is still super worried that it will come back after this treatment. I really hope that after this batch of antibiotic dmannose will help me with UTI. But i have a few questions regarding the usage of dmannose.
    1. Does it affect if I use it while using: birth control pill or any other supplements?
    2. Do we have to take this religiously for the rest of our life to prevent UTI? If yes, does it have any other side effect since this is a type of sugar?
    3. Does it help with BV as well since i read there are some claims about it helps with BV and i’m having BV and is planning to use boric acid suppositories to cure it.
Thank you so much again for such a useful video

I am so, so sorry to hear about you having to go to the hospital due to a UTI. I'm really glad that you caught this most recent one early, and that you're getting the appropriate treatment. I hope that d-mannose will help you after this round of antibiotics, too, but remember that d-mannose is only effective if the bacteria causing your infections is E. coli!
      As for your questions:
      1. I cannot point to any literature, but I can share my personal experience. I've used d-mannose while on and off of hormonal birth control, and have not noticed any change in efficacy of my birth control or my natural fertility.
      2. I've been taking it every day for 3-4 years now I think. I'm not sure if I'll be taking it for the rest of my life, but my alternative was taking antibiotics for the rest of my life, it seemed. As far as side-effects, I have not personally experienced any. But that doesn't mean they don't exist. Every person's body is different, and I know just from reading my comments that d-mannose has given other people headaches, or made them feel light-headed.
      3. Fascinating! I haven't heard that it's helpful with BV, and I have not personally used it to treat/prevent BV. I am a big fan of boric acid suppositories, though! If you'd like to learn more about boric acid, you can check out this video: th-cam.com/video/uzfAgvGY7Z0/w-d-xo.html

THANK YOU for the update! :) I'm curious - when you have sex, do you take your secondary dose before, or after? I've also read a lot about the imbedded infections that the other commenters are mentioning. I'm headed to a specialist next week, and I plan to ask about it. It's frustrating to think that the only doctor's really specializing in this are way over in the UK.

      Thank you for watching ❤
Yes! I am learning about embedded infections from my comment section, too! I plan on deep-diving and really researching it in the next few weeks. I'd love to know more.
I mentioned in another comment -- the reason I feel hesitant about an embedded infection being the case for me, is that when I don't take d-mannose, I don't have UTI symptoms (unless I do something "risky").
My UTIs always correlated with some sort of risky behavior (mostly sex). If I abstained from penetrative and oral sex, and got out of wet/sweaty clothes quickly, I wouldn't get chronic UTIs -- one or two, but not 10-12 (there was a period of time where I was not sexually active and this was the case).
Regardless, I want to stay open to other possibilities for myself. And I want to learn more so that I can be a better women's health provider!
As far as sex -- I pee afterwards and then go take my d-mannose :) I think you could take it before as well, if that works better for you!

I haven't heard of Hiprex... but I will definitely look into it! I always try to learn more about other options for UTI prevention.
Unfortunately, I do not know if Hiprex and D-mannose are safe to use together -- try asking a trusted physician or pharmacist! (Pharmacists are an amazing resource for that kind of information, and may be easier to reach than a physician!)

I have gotten rid of a uti with hiprex and d mannose combined. Hiprex is not an antibiotic and does not disrupt the good bacteria in your system. You also cannot become resistant to it. It is an antiseptic meaning it inhibits the growth of bad bacteria in your bladder while d mannose clings to the bad bacteria so you can flush it out. Take hiprex with a glass of cranberry juice for best results. I’ve had 11 UTIs in a year. Garlic, cranberry, uva ursi and asparagus supplements can help create a toxic environment for the bad bacteria as well

Just wanted to update my last comment - D-Mannose powder started working within 5 hours of taking first dose (for an active UTI caught early stages) like mentioned in the video! I haven't had to take any antibiotics yay! Brings me peace of mind big time.
Would still like to know whether you or anyone has had the powder fail as preventative measure? And if so for any thoughts to why it failed? My Hiprex prevention seemed to fail on me after 2 years of no UTI, unless i for some reason increased 'risky behaviour' or didnt have enough. Hopefully this is superior
Woohoo feeling SO much better within a good timeframe too! Can't believe no doctor out of all the ones i have seen never mentioned it.

Hey! I posted on your old video but i thought i'd put it here too since it's more relevant.
I just wanted to ask whether you have ever had Hexamethylenetetramine or Methenamine? There's a medicine called Hiprex i buy at pharmacies without a prescription (Australia) that seems to help - just wanted to see if you had any experience with it? I'm now considering trying d-mannose instead as a more natural remedy since the longterm effects of Hiprex aren't clear.

      @@TheGaranceable Yes, fingers-crossed 🤞
I have had two UTIs since taking the powder preventatively -- but both of them happened in January of this year, in Asia, on my honeymoon, when I didn't pack enough d-mannose for the entirety of the trip! I essentially hadn't gotten a UTI in 2.5-3 years since using the powder, packed enough d-mannose for my life not in Asia for the length of the trip (3 months), realized I hadn't packed enough for life in Asia (very wet climate, a lot more exposure to "risky behaviors" there), and tried to half my doses to make the amount of powder I had brought last the whole time. Promptly got two UTIs in a row... so I do think if I had been taking d-mannose the "right" way for my body I would've prevented those. Otherwise, UTI-free since using the powder!
As for your second question, my symptoms went away quickly (within a day), but I continued to use the powder through the lens of treating an infection for 5 days total 😊
      Wishing you the best 💛

I treat humans (men and women) for painful urination and urgency/frequency (frequent urination that feels incredibly urgent) every day!
      Two things:
      1. Your pelvic floor can play a role in urgency if it is "tight," or if it has "trigger point," just like any other muscle!
      2. Your bladder is a trainable organ (the only trainable organ that we are aware of, at least!)
A pelvic PT may be able to help you through both a musculoskeletal lens and a behavioral lens -- releasing any tight muscles that are contributing to the issue/helping you re-train your bladder!
If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you: pelvicrehab.com
Wishing you only the best ❤

I've been struggling with chronic UTI's for 20 years now and I think I've tried everything including D-mannose .The problem with the recurrent UTI is the biofilm that the bacteria is forming into the bladder and this is how the bacteria protects itself and becomes antibiotic resistant.I managed to put this under control for 4 years using oregano oil( which is natural antibiotic). In order to destroy the biofilm I would suggest using some natural biofilm destroyers such as garlic, turmeric, tea tree oil etc along with taking oregano oil and D mannose. Since I'm not a doctor please consult your urologists before taking any further actions.Good luck everyone!

At the same time, if I had any itching I would take : Urological Tea for Urinary Tract Problems - Kidneys & Bladder (20 Tea Bags 40g), I think this tea is from Slovenia, but I got it from Amazon, works within hours to stop itching… 👀…
D-mannose and solary, I took it consistently for 3 months to see results… I’ve been clear for about 7 months… Can’t believe it….

Hey! I really appreciate your question, but I'm not sure if I fully understand what you're asking. I take d-mannose every day as a part of my preventative routine, and then I take serving after any "risky" behaviors -- when I've needed antibiotics to heal a UTI, I continue to take d-mannose while I'm taking the antibiotics (I take preventative doses, not the "trying to cure a UTI" doses) and after the antibiotics are finished!
And thank you for your kind words 🤗 let me know if I misunderstood your question! Wishing you the best.

Sorry for the confusion. I took antibiotics for the uti and still have minor symptoms. Tiniest bit of cloudy pee at end of urinating and tiny bit of pelvic pain. No other symptoms. So I’m not sure if the antibiotic worked completely to rid the uti. I have no other symptoms but want to make sure it’s truly gone so I’ve been taking the acute uti dmannose protocol for 1 day now. I guess my question is do you think I should just keep doing this until my pee is clear? And if so how long is safe to keep this up? I really don’t want more antibiotics. Thanks soooo much for any info. I’ve added herbs as well to boost my immune.

@@lozirivers7883 I understand now, no worries! I really appreciate you feeling comfortable asking me; however, I cannot give individualized medical advice, so I cannot suggest whether or not you should continue d-mannose until your urine is clear, nor can I be sure how long taking higher doses of d-mannose would be safe for you and your unique body.
That being said, I can remind you that d-mannose is only effective if the bug causing your infection is E. coli, and that, since you are continuing to demonstrate some UTI-like symptoms, it might be helpful for get a urine culture so that you know if you still have an infection and, if you do, what bug is causing your infection! That might help you make a better informed choice as to what's the best next step for you!
I'm so sorry you're still experiencing symptoms, and I understand not wanting to take more antibiotics. I've had to take them in the past when d-mannose didn't quite to the trick, but I remind myself how much less antibiotics I take because of the d-mannose, and that helps me feel more peace.
I really wish I could be more helpful! I hope you find your healing soon 💕

I'm so sorry to learn that antibiotics haven't been working for you. Do you know what kind of bug is causing your infection? D-mannose is only effective against e. coli, but knowing what kind of bacteria is responsible for the infection can be a really helpful place to start, so that you can start researching that bacteria/learning about other people's successes and failures treating it/figure out what other interventions might work for you!
