Os Du Randt - The Mobile Mountain

- It's a bold statement, I know, but in my humble opinion Pieter "Os" Du Randt was the greatest prop to ever play the game.
He did struggle with injury mid way through his career and he was away from the game for two years before returning in 2003 and reclaiming his spot in the Springbok side in 2004.
He made his debut for South Africa in 1994 against Argentina after only playing a handful of games for Free State, but Kitch Christie saw something special in him.
Os went on to play an integral part in the 1995 RWC winning Springbok side and in 1997 he was named South Africa's player of the year.
He was a strong ball carrier, very solid in the scrum and had plenty of pace for a front rower.
Enjoy and thanks for watching! - กีฬา
I was privileged to have him in my AFrikaans class in 1988 in Adelaide in the Eastern cape and I can testify that he was an excellent student. Quiet, always reading a book and well mannered at all times. I am proud of what he has become.
Auntie Hester I can see Os doing many things but reading without being forced never😉🧐
@@dirkjordaan9044 i can guarantee you that. He was always quiet and reading. Not singing in the singing class though!
“Rugby is a team game, so all 14 of you give the ball to Du Randt...”
Os Du Randt retires in 2007 and tight head props everywhere breathed a sigh of relief.
South Africa then revealed their next big guy, Tendai Mtawarira, in 2008.
Fuck sake South Africa. Give the rest of us a chance eh?
not just yet, Kitshoff has arrived..
@@dezertfox3681 There's no argument to be had, Os was on a whole different level. Although i get your point, Kits is nowhere near either player.
@@dezertfox3681you can argue it all you like, you are wrong, he wasn’t very good at all actually!
And now Ox wot a beast he is!South Africa churn out some serious beefy props!🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🏈🏈🏈🏈💪💪💪💪
Certainly makes most props look ordinary with his amazing speed, power and ball handling skills and would still be the best if he played today.
Fuck ye 130 kg 9f prime boer seun. The best ever

An awesome player with such a humble attitude. Truly a great player!
Love hearing the commentary in Afrikaans, even though I don't understand a word.
I agree, the best loosehead of all time and also a real gentleman.
And then Tony Woodcock came along...
It's weird I played wing and fullback yet the player who made me fall in love with the game was Os
Greatest Loosehead of all-time.
We had a SA family move to our Welsh valley back in the day. The primary school teacher was Adam Jones' mum. The SA lad was real shy and not just a little bit scared being in a new land, so Adam visited the school and lent the boy Oz's jersey for the day. Oz was the boy's hero and he never looked back after that!
Lovely guy, one of my favourite Springboks of all time.
Kiwi here. Mind-boggling how Os would side-step and outrun 'speedy' backs. Amazing indeed...
Ridchard Bands
Loved the old Free state yellow jersey
I started following the rugby because to this great man. In my heart, Os will forever be the best player not only the best loosehead prop ever seen. Thank Os
True. Not exaggeration to say so.
@@zetristan4525 ❤️
As a Fiji fan I used to admire os Durant. Big scary bull
Absolute Legend!!
What an athlete he was.
When I watched him in 2007 World Cup I had no idea I was watching a legend. I was very new to Rugby. Even now I am soccer person but I like rugby
Only South African Rugby player to have 2 World Cup Titles, titles that are 12 years appart... That tells you something about his character...
When aussies speaks of the ox man...they simply say he was born when meat was cheap
What a turn of speed from the Big Man
An extraordinary player with great skill and speed for someone in his position as well as a humble and modest gentleman despite being a 2 time world champion.
Surely one of the greatest players ever.
Loved that bit at the begining with the Xhosa commentary by Dumile Mateza.
Os was born and bred in the Eastern Cape and he would enjoy listening to that commentary.
Iyabulela ilali. 🙏🏾
No, that’s for the township people, not rugby people.
Os, wherever you are, I just want to say you were and still are a legend of rugby ........would love to split a six pack of castle with you and talk about old times !!!!!! cheers boet !!!!!!!
Mate these vids are quality keep them up 👍🏽
Sam South thanks a lot Sam! I appreciate the support!
absolute legend!
A weapon of mass destruction.
Best all round loosehead I've ever seen, and I'm English. Having played in the front row for nearly 20 years I would have walked over hot coals to pack down next to Os.. The only better loosehead scrummager ive ever seen is Rodrigo Roncero from Argentina, who was the most destructive scrummager, but not as good as Os in the loose. Only one other may have come close if he hadn't got injured, retired and went over to the States. Alex Corbisiero.. I love Jason Leonard, he was a rock, and deserves to be called a great, but Os and Rodrigo were on another level in my opinion.
those who love and enjoy the art of scrumming in our wonderful game played in Heaven know Jason Leonard is a world rugby legend, and he could play tight head prop too, very reliable prop he was.
rubbish olo brown owned him
The only Springbok to have 2 World Cups under his belt
Ashley Marks and the last hopefully
B E Well with their black player racial quota they won't win again
Combat Enthusiast Haha what you gotta say now? Even with our racial quota we did it
Ashley Marks and now Francios Steyn too!!! Yes boys!
François Steyn as well
set move: tap kick, 'give it to Os'
It's a pretty sound game plan :)
Thanks for this muchacho I have watched many times and just absolutely marveled at this unbeleivable athlete.
Legend, my favourite player of all time
The best loosehead of all time.
SumoRugby not even seen that ass get whooped plenty 😂😂😂
All time great Player and a fine man.
James Small salty asf to see the reward for all his hard work go to a prop. Hahahahahaha. Os Du Randt was an ABSOLUTE BEAST
Os, one of the players you thought would always be playing for the Springboks. Was sad to see him retire.
He wasnt just a unit, he had great hands too. Great player
If ever anyone was born to play the game, its Os
Still my favourite Springbok of all time.
Probably the best loose head of all time. Would certainly be in my all time front row with Sean Fitzpatrick and Olo Brown at tight head.
That's a pretty mean front row. Can't argue too much with that!
Tadgh furlong is good as to
That's a killer front row.

Missing those good ol rugby players
Awh the days when Provincial rugby still ment something 🙁
He was like the terror of churchschool rugby when we were 15yrs old lol, We all knew who he was, this was a year before I hoped to go into club/pro
Its amazing how the game of rugby has changed over the years
What a beeautiful man
nice , os Du randt, great springbooker
The real Beeeeaaaasssstt!!
Don't think so. Watch the montage on what Mtawarira's prop opponents said about facing him - following his retirement from international rugby
@@marxzw4761 The All Blacks used to say scrumming against Os was like scrumming against a brick wall.Mtawarera doesnt compare to him.He was in a different class.
@@shabiermana2288 Now that he's retired, history will judge Mtawarira as one of the most dominant Prop forwards of the 21st cent. If you find time, please read a recent article published by Daily Maverick about Mtawarira; and maybe we'll just lie in wait to hear what other opponents will say about the Beast post-retirement. You might win this debate in the end because yesteryear players will always be held as better than current players by default. Most still ay Pele is the greatest, Jordan is the greatest, Mohd Ali is the greatest
@@marxzw4761, just imagine Os and Beast pushing together in the front row, it'll be like stopping a mine dump truck with a bantam bakkie... It ain't gonna happen.
Beast was not great in the loose neither was he a great ball carrier. He did not have tbe brute strength of Os and never will. He was technical a good scrummager where Os was brute strength as a scrummager. Os is miles ahead and no one will surpass him.
Missing the Os days wish they were still here.
Best scrumagger in the world. When his second shove came in, all 8 moved backwards.
Rugby is so much faster and physical today, but boy do I miss the old rugby days.
My favourite prop of all time
Ach a humble man
Gentle giant...he is
Os, you beauty you!
My outstanding memory of du Randt is when the Welsh centre Scott Gibbs left him on his backside.
"Os" means "Bear" in catalan language . Suits him , what a beast
It means Ox in his language. He got the nickname at school for being so strong
Onse ou gentle giant, wen die 1995 wêreld beker as 'n laaitie, wen die 2007 wêreld beker as 'n Oom... Knap gedaan.
Pray an act of perfect contrition everyday
Yster Os!
Best loosehead prop ever
The best!

More than 21 stone.
130kg - almost 21 stone
190cm or just under 6 foot 3.
Finally!
Great player
Legend.
LEGEND
I wouldn't think twice about getting out of the way if Os came charging at me.
Ossa in Al die wereld spanne wat gekies is is jy die man. Ossa jy was die beste
Only one direction Os would go: and it's not backwards
I remember julian white doing a thorough job on him
True

Put respect on os
Now this is a real main Ou.
Os was built at an Armscor factory
Puik!!! 😂

Indeed the greatest rugby player of all time. Had far more impact on any game overall than a Jonah Lomu or Danie Gqeberha
HUGE
What song is playing at the beginning of the video?
Player Farmer, tight Heard of légend,
If you were in front of os you were grass
Look at that big boy go

Scott Gibbs says hi
So how many world cup winners medas do gibbs have....
Name of the intro song?
olo owned every prop i the world..the best ever tighthead
Olo was great , but he surely never owned Ox. Ox was one of the best and if not the best with ball in hand. Ox was not a prop , he was a rugbyplayer who scrummed very very well.

Legend
Our battalion team went to the Cape Town 10s tournament 2014 if I remember correctly. Feeling fit and full confidence cos being in the Army and that, we said we won’t “DESTROY” ( that was the word used by one of our officers) any Afrikaan team in our pool.
OMG how wrong could we be. Got absolutely smacked and ragged for the 2 day tournament. Those fuckers are something else. Fuck knows what they eat over there.
Castle beer soothed our wounds tho. And that massage place downtown 😂
And no, I don’t wanna play against an Afrikaan again.
First player in the world to have won 2 Rugby World Cups
Nope. John Eales, Tim Horan and David Wilson won their 2nd World Cups in 1999
4:13 We don't see many moves like that these days - why not?
6.03 what's the presentors name
Flattened by Scott Gibbs, a centre 😉
97. Vs Lions. Where’s the Scottie Gibbs highlight?
Why would that be in an Os du Randt highlight video?
Who's that bloke at 5:02?
Darren Scott. He was a presenter at SuperSport in South Africa for many years
Definitely G.o.a.t, ask Scott Gibbs🏉
Any guy can bump off another guy, when the timing is wrong/right, I love Scott. Great player, but how many World Cups did he win?
