  • 2021 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Review.
    With the EV market heating up, there's one segment that has seen very little variety, and that's the price range of around $40k. The Tesla Model 3 for the most part has gone unopposed, and despite this model being a Standard Range, it provides more than enough standard features and range to be the next EV in your driveway.

    Awesome review! There was a test that someone did with a standard range and a long range. In the end of the long road trip and using supercharger network, there was only a 3 minutes difference between the two cars I believe it was! The recommendation is that you only charge to 80% because it charges slower after that point. The long range does have more capacity but it takes longe to charge also. I thought it was a pretty interesting test

    • @loganrossignol
      @loganrossignol 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's 3 main advantages of the LR over the SR.
      1 - Performance. Bigger battery means more potential output, so the LR is about a full second faster than the SR.
      2 - Longevity. Using less of a bigger battery will reduce use cycles and extend the life of the battery, likely well beyond the 300-500k mile range currently expected on average.
      3 - Distance. You may not see a huge difference in time between a LR and SR on a road trip, but the LR's advantage is being able to skip stops, and in some cases, it may not be possible to route an SR to the next supercharger, where the extra range of a LR comes into play. This is extremely uncommon and would probably only see that in remote parts of the midwest or, say, northern Canada, but the peace of mind is nice.

    The standard range weighs 500 lbs less than the long range. Most of that weight is off the front of the car. It actually steers a bit snappier and seems to brake faster as well, making it more fun on the back roads and in the canyons etc.

    • @loganrossignol
      @loganrossignol 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even the LR RWD is really nice to drive relative to the AWD LR. The LR RWD sits pretty squarely between the SR and the LR AWD in terms of weight, but most of that is off of the front as you mentioned. I test drove a performance Y and really didn't like the driving feel compared to my LR RWD.

      BRBallin1 90 miles of range extra* and 1 second faster 0-60. If we’re talking statistics here let’s be accurate. In my experience the LR is only more useful on the 1% of the time you do road trips, and even then you only save like 20-25 minutes every stop you don’t have to take. Obviously if you do constant road trips go for the LR, but for the vast majority of people the SR+ and spend the 10k on something worthwhile. $10k is not a small amount to most people

Just think of it this way, your carting around an extra 10k worth batteries that you might use 5 times a year.

    Long range this, long range that.... I feel like a lot of people are missing the point when talking about the standard range plus vs long range... I live in Canada (Québec) and because of the MSRP of the Tesla Model 3 Standard range plus I get 13K$ Discount from federal and provincial governments for buying an EV, making it totally affordable. But, the Long Range version of the Model 3 have a way higher MSRP and if I decide to buy that car, I wouldn’t get those discount... As much as I would love to the have the long range, for the performance, extra range and the AWD,I can’t, because in my case, it is not only 11K$ more (64K$ Vs 53K$ for the standard range plus) but it become 24K$ difference... I really hope that the new Chevy Bolt EV 2022 and it’s price of only 32K$ will make it so that Tesla will have to drop the prices...

    • @JM-kv2kn
      @JM-kv2kn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bolt's inferior performance and mile range is the reason why the price is lower. Tesla won't lower them for that reason.

      Tesla, for the foreseeable future, is going to be slow with full redesigns. It's still an immense challenge for them to bring out a single new model. Just to get the Cybertruck out required them to build a whole new massive factory first. The established makes have everything in place to pop out redesigns every 5 years but for now, Tesla makes do with incremental improvements.

    $40k-$45k ??? The Standard range is currently $37.5k plus $1200 destination fee. Factoring in bigger wheels white interior and red paint color would still be under $42k. I do think the extra money is well spent on a dual motor for the extra range and performance. AWD is also nice in bad wether climates although I have seen the standard range RWD do awesome in the snow.

Even without my MSM color, and just taking the base model with 0 additions or accessories, it’s 44k.
