I much prefer this version of you. To me it feels like you know what you’re talking about versus script reading and your interjected opinion carriers more weight when it’s tied to a physical person. In my opinion it’s easier to watch. But I’m a social fella and like person to person interactions 🙏 Keep doing it 🤛

The case/frame quality is up there with the Asus Zephyrus line, however Alienware does have some buggy software though. I can confirm the new R3 revamps don't have the yellow staining on the lunar light/white models anymore. They also upgraded the cooling I believe on the m15 and m17 R3 and 51m R2.
@@tonyyang5811 Yep my R3 should be in soon. They started using a Clearcoat on the R3 and it even says it on their website when you dance between specs when looking at the R3 vs the R2.
Tbh the R1 M15 had no issues for me whatsoever with software, hardware, or the way the quality was except for that disgusting keyboard that felt like paper, so you can't judge an entire company off one laptop model cause its lasting without an issue longer than a Mac. But the M15 R2 specifically did have that track pad issue for me as well, just took a couple days of figuring out how to make it work which was annoying Laptops I've always had an issue with is Asus tho. Ive had 3 and like literally only 1 month after owning them they start having a ton of bugs, freezing, things are missing, certain functions won't even work anymore or even respond to input and even freezes before it can reach the log in lockscreen 😂😂😂
Nice to have actual feedback for this machine, have recently bought the M17 R3 model with a full RTX 2080 super for £2600. Even though that the 32GB of ram and wifi 6 is soldered this machine is surprisingly the best value for money at the high end. If anyone wants any feedback for the M17 R3 feel free to message me in a few weeks (around 20th June). I will be applying liquid metal and so can give temperatures for anyone that is wanting to do the same. Would also love a full benchmark and thermal review Jarrod if possible :)
@@WeatherxCalipha never really done any video editing before but will certainly do a lot of testing when it arrives, possibly just update this post or if anyone can link me to somewhere more permanent to put my data. Internet is slow so it will probably take a while to get data from all games but will have the time over the summer!
I was stuck between m15 and 17 r3, decided on 15 in the end because i already have a 4k monitor. So i got the 300hz 2070 super 32gb i7 model with 15% student discount at 2193£. I wanted the battery and portability and the m15 has 2080 super maxq at highest which is not really better than 2070 super in practice, and I'm getting the ps5 anyways so... though i would've liked to have the numpad on 17 but i mean considering my current laptop is a 10 year old Vaio F236HG which is as big as m17 and 3.1kg i decided against getting a bigger laptop, since I'm mostly using the monitor anyways.
@@UndisputedGH05T sounds like the best decision for you tbf hope you enjoy :) . Coming from a cheaper rig from a few years ago and similar laptop I have decided to buy power and portability from a trade in that I can link up to a 144hz 1440p. Think it is probs the best option. So can also give fps on that if peeps want.
After about 6 months of use I agree with everything you said, I was however able to get the scrolling working by adjusting settings in the Tobii eye tracking, my biggest complaint is my bezel comes loose whenever I open the laptop, too much money for quality issues.
Ouch that sucks about the bezel, but good to hear about the touchpad! Seems like such a strange thing after all this time that they haven't resolved via update 🤔
I really don't get the negative comments. I bought i9 version few weeks ago with 4k OLED panel and the only thing I can really agree with is lack of ability to upgrade the RAM. 4k panel looks great, allows me to work with some graphics and is great for AAA games. I travel a lot, I'm a software engineer (heavy backend, I appreciate the extra CPU cores) and I needed just one laptop to do it all for me. After undervolting the CPU it never goes above 90 degrees. I guess there are some software issues, but for me those were very easy to figure out and fix in no time. I think the jest quote I heard about this laptop is "If you could have one laptop to do it all, that would be it, but for most people it od better to buy a gaming PC and a small laptop for work for the same price". You just have to ssk yourself what do you need this laptop for. If you spend most of your time at home gaming, just build a desktop unit.
Yeah I am sure it will work for most people, I just think for the price they are asking and the issues that do exist there are alternatives, but depends what's important to you.
After a lot of concerns i did end up buying this one. Mouse issues were easily fixed Infact u don't even need to turn off the entire tobii eyetracking software...just go in the application and turn off the 'mouse enhancements' options and you're absolutely good to go. It does get hot but honestly you can crank up the fans, perhaps provide external cooling as well and it will give u a beastly performance. RGBs are hot 🔥. I loved it
Good to hear, I still think they should have just provided some sort of update between now and when it launched a year ago to make the touchpad 'just work' though.
Just found out about this channel, very glad to have stumbled upon it. You spoke about valid critiques in a straightforward manner that enables the buyers to make informed decision, which is much needed in this convoluted space of laptop reviews, looking forward for more!
I love all those comment on this machine. I don’t know why I always need to deal with some problem on my new laptop, like acoustics, throttling, lifespan ,and especially drives. Most of my laptop lifespan just over three years and, not caused by unusable performance, just completely dead since unswappable component. I refund msi gs73 since throttling and fragile hinge of monitor and get Alienware 17 R3(not m17r3) three years ago and it died last month, since burst of south-bridge on motherboard. I feel so bad that I need to discard all my other functional components except my ram and ssd. Now, I’m think of sff desktop, I believe it’s worth to sacrifice portability, if I can avoid most problems. Or if cannot I would give a try with Y740, , which looks quite premium for me.
I guess everything has problems, though 3 years sounds quite short, I'd expect basically any modern machine to go for 5 years if treated well. I guess if no chance of repair, could maybe recycle or reuse some of the parts.
Once this channel gets bigger, please don't give up on the other one. Such detailed statistics are really needed to decide between similar laptops, or to see if the machine is performing as it should.
I'm not planning on it, it is required in order to make these videos as I do all the detailed testing first then take that info and break it down into these.
@@JarrodsLaptops Thats great! As a scientist myself i really appreciate having actual numbers to justify what certain laptops do better than others, and in which tasks
So I'm just gonna rant a bit, and if you're thinking about this laptop, LISTEN. I got my very first high end gaming computer and it happened to be this in Dark Side of the moon. At first, it was great! The best computer I've ever called my own. But little did I know, a i7 9th gen, 2070 max-q, 8gb of ram (which I know is terrible) was the worst $2000 decision of my life. The 2070 vs the 2070 max-q has gotta be atleast 10x better. Processor is fine. But as he mentioned, the ram is soldered so there is NO changing it. For a performance requisite, I get around 150 fps on MINECRAFT 1.8.9 WITH Optifine. Pretty disappointing. Triple A gaming isnt a stretch on one hand, its completely possible, but don't expect to get too much more than 70 frames. Oh, the computer itself now? Extre.ely difficult to clean. Dust has been collecting in the front keyboard grille/mesh and is nearly impossible to clean without opening the computer (which you shouldn't have to do). A couple rgb keys are losing their blue. Oh and the Alienware logo next to the keyboard? Doesn't light up the same shade of color you set everything else to. Now of course this could just be my unit, but the fact that it happened at all is pitiful for the price tag. Want to get it in white? Prepare to have to clean it. Oh and if you have sweaty palms don't even get me started. The left wrist rest part of the keyboard has DETERIORATED. not rusted, but it seems as if they sprayed magnesium alloy coating onto plastic, as there's just a patch of what seems to be plastic, where you place your left wrist onto. Feel free to call me stupid or whatever, but don't say I didn't warn you. Just... just get a pc and regular laptop for 1k each... so much more worth it.
Laptop Dell Alienware Area-51m R2 17.3-inch 360 hz/i9-10900/32GB/2x1TBSSD/GeForce RTX 2080 Super/W10P/2Y I bought this model and completely satisfied 😍
a Typical Dell's software issues, my experience with dell G7 I did 3 times windows clean format and drivers re installation in 2 months to get the laptop perform at its best. out of the box I used to get 10% lower fps than the average 2080 max q laptops, CPU wattage was all over the place not stable at all even with CPU under volt + cooler still throttle " mostly power throttling'' battery draining with heavy load' it was a very bad experience , even the Rgb keyboard I wasn't able to turn it on unless I do it manually from alienware software '' software glitch"... after the windows clean format + drivers re installation... performance improved a lot no more stuttering due to power and thermal throttling no more battery draining. far cry 5 FPS improved from 81 fps to 92 in ultra setting and most importantly the minimum fps improved from 64 to 77 Cinebench R20 score improved from 2421 to 2847 both with -150 undervolt overall good laptop but dell's software is a complete trash
Sounds similar to issues I've had with other machines, basically they could do with just throwing out the software and starting again, there are just so many layers and things that get installed and updated, probably all managed by different teams.
Bought an Alienware 17R5. GTX 1080 OC, 32GB 2666mhz, i9 8950hk, 1440p screen GSync. And it brought nothing but problems. Costed 4000 euro never again will I buy an Alienware product. Problems i had: overheating cpu with thermal throttling , low fps and micro stutter, loud fans for no reason. Speedstep causing a ruckus.
Jarrod's Laptops Believe me it will suck your soul out of your body. Im getting low fps in BFV without future frame render on with low settings. How is that even possible..
I have the i7 with the rtx2070 and 240hz when I got it I was pushing 100c on the CPU I immediately took it apart re pasted the CPU and GPU with thermal grizzly conductnaut and upgraded the thermal pads has well and under volt -150 I'm hitting max 82c while gaming much better it's a great laptop if you put the time into but sucks you have to do that for the price.
Idk how I stumbled on your second channel but I like it. I'm surprised when people say they get around 5 hours on their laptops because I'm getting near 6 hours. Then again idk if my relatively low spec configuration adds to that. As always, great review. In all honesty I'm looking to sell my laptop and get a new one for around the same price I got mine ($1500). Any suggestions?
Welcome! I guess to be fair it really depends on what you're doing on battery power. Hard for me to recommend with so many models just on the horizon, I'm flat out testing a few right now.
Hey, what do you think the best budget gaming laptop is? G5 se? Is there anything else you recommend? I don't know if I should go with a 1660ti or a rtx
My current ancient laptop is an Alienware M15 from 2009. My experience was this, 1 week after buying I had power issues which eventually meant bad motherboard. They sent a technician who was subcontracted & he quietly let me know the parts in it are inferior for the price. About 3 years later one of the fans became very noisy, I still had warranty & they replaced it but the noise remained. After all this I'm not sure what my next machine will be as the only PC I've ever owned with reliability was my Dell. Yep I know same company as Alienware but that's just my experience. Worst PC I've ever owned still goes to Acer. That gave problems every week.
I guess this is just a sign that I'll be sticking with my 17 R5 with the i9 8950HK and GTX 1070, and just making GPU upgrades via the AGA when I need to as it has more ability for storage upgrades with the 2.5" bay as well as the 3 M.2 slots (2 2280 slots with one being just for NVMe, and one 2242 slot for smaller M.2 drives, which are available in 2 TB sizes though not from many vendors). Just a note for those trying to overclock high power GPUs inside the Amplifier like the 1080 Ti or 2080 Ti: replace the 460W power supply with something that is at least 550W as with the additional USB hub it has to run, it just barely leaves the power supply enough headroom to run those GPUs. I ended up replacing the stock power supply with a Corsair CX550M Bronze power supply to be able to get that little bit of OC headroom with my 2080 Ti. Currently running it with +200 MHz on the core and +800 MHz on the memory.
Fortunately I've not had any issues with the trackpad and all the software worked completely fine out of the box. your CB R20 scores are astronomical compared to what I've been getting. In a 21C room with the thermal profile set to full and the power management to high performance, I'm only sitting around 2300-2500, which is apparently normal for this laptop. As for the yellowing issue, I've had my M15 R2 for almost 7 months now, it's the same colour it came out of the box with, no clear visible sign of any colour changes. I did an RGB colour match and there was around an equal increase in red, green and blue, so any change hasn't been noticable (about +10 to R and G, +7 for B)
That's good to hear on the touchpad, seems weird, a few others have mentioned same problem so wonder what the rate is. I tested in a 21c room too, it could be the BIOS version controlling power limits, perhaps it's changed over time.
Jarrod's Laptops yeah I’ve noticed quite a few people complaining about the trackpad issue. If you could find out which BIOs version you’re using then maybe I could get to the bottom of my CPU performance difference, given we both have the same config besides the SSD.
liked the new format of you in front of the camera (if you take some criticism, maybe a little bit less movement of hands; but that is being picky). I agreed on the waste of non more memory with 4K, rough performance of CPU and GPU, it would have been a very decent video editing machine. Yet, I think a good second best is for dell to offer 32 and 64GB RAM (even if soldered but at least it is an option).
I'm rather surprised that the white model is degrading with colour quite frankly. A disappointment nonetheless. Though my brother owns the Alienware 13 R3 and he does have a couple of minor issues with it, but so far it's been holding up relatively well for him (aside accursed battery drain but that's fixable) but I can see that quality control for Alienware's still been a crummy mix. Also just found out about this channel, hope to see it grow!
Welcome! Yeah honestly if they didn't delay for almost a whole year in sending me it, I probably never would have had any way of knowing about the white going to yellow, so maybe it's lucky they sent me this at the end of the cycle 😂 get to see all the wear and tear. Good to hear about the R3, hopefully I can get it soon!
@@JarrodsLaptops Ouchy, that sounds like despite the delays at least it unintentionally showed off one of the "natural" results for it. Oh, the R3 is the Alienware 13 - the lil OLED laptop from 2017! He's been running it for a while, actually. His battery wear has gone to shit for some reason so he's probably going to need to get a new battery for it, but he's still holding onto it.
Yeah, you right about the soldered RAM. I can't understand why they do that, any clue? Anyway, other things didn't go too bad for me. Temperature is too hot? I Undervolt to -134.8 mV, now I have around 91c on heavy games. Bad scrolling with too fingers? Tobii Experienced disable with task manger, and it's solved. No issues with alienware software, no yellow so far. Battery is decent compared to other gaming laptops, and I think the most of the people needs to be connected to a power supply to get their fps running properly. And I think you can get big discounts in Dell site from time to time. Good info anyway, cheers.
Alienware's 3rd attempt at "thin and light" leave so much to be desired. Looking at the flaws you mentioned, their price tag is not competitive enough in the current gaming laptop market with companies such as HP introducing their gaming line up. With that amount of money I think most people would be way better off with a Razer Blade.
Jarrod I think this whole video looked very clean, you covered all of the basic key ponts. The reason why i like this style of video is that it makes it Easier to digest the information given. However i think you are one of the only people on TH-cam to give the most amount of important numbers and thermals about laptops, I definitely would not want to see this go away because its what makes your channel special. Currently you have two styles of videos , this one and the classic videos you usually put down. In my opinion you need a fine balance between both. You should probably have a video like this one where you cover the basics and then another video where you go in depth on thermals and other numbers. This would sum up to basically having two videos for each laptop. Yea I understand it would be alot of work but maybe you can have those two styles of videos balance with eachother so its not too much work. Another maybe convincing reason to this approach is that TH-cam and the general public gravitate more to watching easier to watch videos. This is the reason why other TH-cam channels whom might not even have as much information about tech get higher priority than those who don’t. This is why having two channels is perfect, so you can have those two different sets of videos in each channel. I greatly appreciate your work and effort, thank you
I am going to do both. I will do the normal stuff with all the details people have come to expect on the original channel, then once I have all that knowledge I will break it down and pull out the important parts in these shorter ones.
Brother please suggest me.... Is dell G15 5511 (i5 11th gen 11260h) (RTX 3050) Worth it in it's price point??? Or i should go for another laptop..... Please suggest 🥺 I need for a all rounder laptop
Thanks for sharing I'm looking into getting into small gaming so trying to find a start but I will use it as a regular computer as well so I started looking at recent alienware m15. For around 1,449 +tax and upgrades. So Im still looking
I purchased the oled/4k version which only came in the M15 R2 model. Did a few upgrades cause I researched how they build the laptops and was fine the components being soldered. It's been running swell as a gaming laptop for me. Mainly play D2 and COD:Warzone on it. Honestly I dont care about the track pad 2 finger scrolling. It's never really worked on any of the previous laptops I've owned anyways so that wasnt a concern of mine. As far as the yellowing, meh! It's only cosmetic, if it doesnt affect the performance or integrity of the laptop I dont care. Oh and I havent had any software issues with mine. Guess I'm one of the few rare owners who got a good one.
06/20/2020: Alienware 2020 M17 R3 Laptop received. 06/22/2020: Keyboard problem found, when I press the "O", "N", and "G" keys together, it types the "\" key automatically. I was curious and not sure if this is the hardware problem, so I tried to fix this issue by myself first. Besides, I use my wifi-keyboard, which has no same problem, most of the time, so it didn't affect the normal use too much. 07/26/2020: Finally, I figured out this is the product design and quality problem. So I called technical service, David H. (who is the only one who tried to help me during the who process) from technical department helped me through the phone and remote control. He was trying to identify the problem and solve it. We spent 1 hour and 40 min to make sure this is not a software problem, and he reserved a on-site technician for me. 07/28/2020: A 74-years old gentleman called James C. C. came around 3:00 pm for the on-site service. He spent more than 3 hours (David told me this work usually takes about 1 hour) to "repair" my computer. At the end, he told me, the backlight of keyboard cable is not long enough, and during the "repair", he broke a cable on the motherboard, however he was not sure what's that cable for. He claimed he was not capable of the job, such as seeing and handling the tiny screws due to age issue. When I turned my laptop back on, the old keyboard was not fixed at all, the worse thing was two more problems created (backlight of keyboard, and Alien head light on the cover). When I lifted the laptop, a screw almost fell off, then I found almost no external screws were put back firmly. A new scratch on the cover surface found. 07/29/2020: I found a screw belongs to the internal components of the computer near my chair. So I was not sure how many more problems were hidden inside the case. Multiple phone calls to the technical support department, no results but just want me to wait for the second on-site service. 07/31/2020: This time a new on-site technician was dispatched, Michael G. He didn't call me or schedule a time either on the designated day or today (08/01/2020). I called technical support for the fifth time, I was then told to wait on Monday. 08/01/2020: Additional lighting systems (power alien head, vent light) stopped working. 08/02/2020: New keyboard problem found: when "F", "G", "H", and "J" keys pressed together, equals to press "F1" key. This problem confirmed by another 2020 alienware M17 R2 owner. 08/03/2020: New keyboard and motherboard were replaced. Lighting system is back in function. Keyboard problems remain. Worse thing is that Speaker and microphone are not working. Contacted customer care, who just let me waiting for calls within 24-48 hours. 08/04/2020: Refund or return refused. Problem not fixed. A third time on-site service scheduled.
Nah planning to keep this style separate to here, full details on the main channel as usual. Once there's more content here I'll announce it officially on the main channel so people can come over to here too if they want.
Plot twist, Jarrod doesn't recommend this laptop because the rgb is actually not authentic, therefore the 50% performance increase is not there btw I prefer this style of review, keep it up!
How I wish, Dell Canada didn't remove the option for the panel of M15 r2. Now, the only panel of choice is 60hz 25ms which is bad. Upselling the R3 which has 144hz 7ms base. #smh
Same, i think need to disable it in device manager. Using their software would reenable after reboot. Works fine for me, too many reviews talked about that, should have a clear fix by now
The keyboard has a normal, non-gamery font too, which is an underrated feature. Keyboard overall is nice. Everything else in these laptops is terrible though.
Welcome! Yeah it's new, still getting set up. I actually have a virtual ASUS event in 1-2 weeks to find out about the new models, so hopefully I'll have more info soon.
Saludos, buen video.
There are a lot of new models I am yet to test, but many of the 144Hz panels are good like Acer Helios 300 - the new ASUS ones aren't great though like A15.
@@WeatherxCalipha haha. I can't wait for these manufacturers to use Ryzen in their high end laptops. Intel is a joke and if you don't think so then you must like 4 cores at extremely expensive prices with lack of innovation. They're only now doing something because of AMD, their not doing it for you, trust me.. Zero reason to support Intel if you can help it. Unfortunately, I had to buy their stupid mobile CPU just to get a 2080 Super (Ryzen would be way better). My desktop won't use Intel until they pull their heads from their asses.
@@juststeve6296 No company does shit for us, they do it for our money - quit schilling for AMD as if that achieves some moral high-ground, I buy whatever is best and whatever has high performance, I'm not interested in buying a laptop with a RTX 2060 thus I will buy an Intel-based laptop.
lol I actually see you and I don't know how to act. I'm both stunned and excited. I subscribed. Also, nice shirt. We might listen to the same stuff. You like Year of No Light, MOL, or Amenra at all? None of that is melodic death stuff, but something tells me you'd like those bands if you don't already know who they are. As for this laptop..no thanks. To this day, nothing Alienware has done impresses me. Flashy tech with high thermals at even higher prices. I'll stick with my Acer Predator Helios 300.
Hey Jarrod, first of all you got me! Cuz I thought that you had just changed the format of your videos. Lol But you made a new channel! Bro, I can't thank you enough for this! I loved your other channel and I'm sure this one will do even more greater than that one! Great job and keep it all the way the "you know what" up!!!
On Best Buy the XPG Xenia 15.6 1660 Ti 32gb ram-- AWARD WINNING 1 TB - i7-9th gen says the graphics are integrated. (Is it possible they made a description mistake?)....XPG 1660ti has SODIMM but the MAG-15 doesn’t. ..........So the XPG have less fan noise than the MSI GS66 Stealth 10SE i7-10th gen with Rtx 2060-16 gb ram- 512 gb ssd SODIMM. I typically play GTA/WarZone/Fortnite between mid to high settings. Which is a better buy for less fan noise in general (especially for gaming) because I heard MSI is loud even when your watching a normal TH-cam video. Number 2. I want something long term that won’t give me issues when I’m in public and fans be loud for no reason. Also is it possible to add more ssd to msi gs66 stealth 10SE Also because I have lower specs (144 hertz) you think it’ll be quieter than the 300 hertz GS66 stealth i9-2070 gpu
The XPG is the exact same chassis as the MAG-15, just get which ever is cheaper (though eluktronics does seem to have more customization). Technically it does have integrated graphics in the CPU, but it also has discrete graphics too. As for fan noise, you'd have to check the thermal test videos on the jarrod'stech channel as I let you listen to that in the video. Screen refresh rate will not affect system volume in any way.
@@JarrodsLaptops so if i was to play warzone can i choose if i want to play with integrated or dedicated graphics? 2. which one would be better for thermals (normal settings)
HEY JARROD, I checked your video recently. I was actually planning on buying the Alienware M15 R2 but now idk😂 I wondering maybe if you could please suggest me with some other options that would be great!🌼 Thanks
Sir, the R3 version came out recently, do you have plans to do a review for them any time soon? If you are and if possible, could you please talk about the m17 as well. I am thinking of getting an Alienware (area 51 to be exact) but I'm not sure what to get, they are a bit expensive, I'm not sure, that's why I'm looking at a lot of videos. Anyways, would be grateful if you did a review on those. Thank you.
It's definitely on the warmer side, while suboptimal I don't think it's really hurting anything, unless of course it's idling while using high wattage which would result in worse battery life.
Wud this be an office friendly latop👩💻? I’m not much of a gamer but I do appreciate nice screen graphics for watching movies and such. I’m just sold on the keyboard lighting and the back lighting that looks extremely gorgeous.
@Jarrod's Laptop, which laptop should i go for, alienware m15 r3 or msi ge66 raider considering i get 300hz display in alienware and 240hz in msi. Apart from that, everything is quite similar... Please help, thanks Btw gr8 video👍
get the ge 66 it will most likely have better thermals(assumption based on previous models and how msi claim to be concentrating more on cooling) . you wont notice a difference in 240hz vs 300hz. only csgo or games like that go more than 240 even then the difference is minute. plus msi have better software too (i personally do not like alienware software at all )
Thanks, haven't tested the GE66 yet, will get it soon, so can't say, but based on the issues here and from past experience with the GE66, I'm leaning towards the GE66, but yeah need to wait til I try it out to say for sure, plus it's possible the r3 has turned things around, meant to get that later this month too.
Based on all the reviews for this, I might just end up getting the razer blade 15 advanced. Also, I heard the response time for asus g14 isn't very good, which defeats the purpose of the better amd processor.
Great reviwe, you saved me on this. I was planning to get this but you are right in all. Would you recommend me a good laptop that can handle 3D modeling and engineering stuff, but also occasionally gaming? I really appreciate your response. Thanks man!
I have the same model. It runs a bit hot though but I don't have any problems with scrolling. I disabled tobi eye tracking and it was fine. And I use structural engineering software's and cadd stuff for analysis and rendering stuff it works well. Saves alot of time. I don't know what stream you're in but it should help you get through.
Thanks! What is the budget? I haven't had a chance to test that many of the newer machines of similar caliber to this one yet so hard to suggest, especially when I don't have much experience in those workloads!
@@JarrodsLaptops I understand, by now I think the XPS 17 fits better with the things I need, hopefully you make a review of that one and maybe I give it a try. Meanwhile I'll keep watching your reviews for great tech
I just bought the m17 r2 ssd 2tb : first the screen brightness is great 👍🏻 and the fps run 144 maximum for (gta 5 and forza 4 )the temperature is run 100 degrees but if you just switch to cool mode it will be 75 , when I checked the maximum temperature for core i7 the answer was 100 degrees so I guess there’s no problem with that .
I mean just because it's in spec for the processor doesn't mean the rest of the internals are going to appreciate high temperatures for long periods of time over years, it's difficult to predict how that sort of thing will affect longevity
I just ordered M17 R2 which was on heavy discount but after going through this video i am a bit skeptical... your comment is helping me to cope up with anxiety issues here..
Mohd Ahatram I returned it before 3 weeks ago , its run hot and it has a lot of issues in speakers, electric sounds and too many issues, you should go for m17 r3 its better now than the r2 , or skip for both and buy a Razer blade 17 it’s much better..
@@naseralotaibi8475 can i ask you for more info on your order or return , just in case - only if i have to push the dell guys hard to cancel the order..ill reply again
Can't decide on a laptop for the life of me. Need good CPU laptop and I want to be able to game on the side if I want to. I want professional looks which eliminates so many laptops unfortunately.
I guess when I think of gaming + professional looks, Lenovo has a few options, the Y540/Y740 from last gen or Legion 5/7 from current gen in particular. Maybe Gigabyte Aero 15 too on the more premium/feature rich side.
No, it's expensive e-waste. The fan sound is so shrill and high pitched that you won't be able to actually game on it. Thermals are still crap, and you get the "dell experience" where they add DRM to the power adapter that might fail and leave you with a cpu perpetually clocked to the lowest multiplier. Opening these machines to work on them is _not_ easy (some galaxy brain at dell thought it'd be a brilliant idea to have captive screws that aren't really captive, just secured with a washer so they feel stuck), and so it's very easy to damage while opening, and I've had to open this thing more times in the week I owned it than in my entire 7 years of owning a real laptop from MSI. Tech support was also terrible -- they had me running around in circles reinstalling windows multiple times even though the problem was obviously hardware, and then after promising to send a tech out they archived the case. In short, the Alienware m17 r4 was the worst technology purchasing experience I've had in my entire life. Performance was pretty subpar too. Would NOT recommend.
If you still have this laptop, I’d be interested what a powercfg /batteryreport (In cmd) tells you. Given this device has been superseded and you only just got it for review, the battery has to have some level of degredation if Dell haven’t changed it out
Hey Jarod! Thanks for this review. I was about to get M17 R3. I’m a lil skeptical about the issues being fixed in R3 version. Would love to hear your thoughts about it.
I would highly recommend not to pay attention to this review. I have been using m17 r2 for a year, as my daily driver for work and gaming. No issues with the white version, no color issue. The comment about the keyboard is a joke, this is one of the best keyboards to type on. Trackpad is great no issue with scrolling. I would have no hesitation buying it again.
I would highly recommend to pay attention to this video and not get the R3 laptop. Dells pricing seems out of whack to me, there is a 500 dollar difference between a laptop with 1660 ti and a 2070 RTX which no other brand has. Only dell is pricing their models at crazy price point. I would just wait for a sale like I always do with dell products. Just my 2 cents
@@radeenmostafa6987 Alienware is expensive e-waste. It's nothing to do with 'hate', they are just utterly subpar in every metric that matters -- thermals, performance, acoustics, build quality. If you're into RGB lighting I guess it might be the machine for you, but for anyone that wants a gaming laptop those are not it.
@@isodoubIet okay. So i bought m15r3 almost 8 months ago. Thermals are not so overwhelming, but far better than their previous models. Performance is top notch. But if I am being honest, I will say yeah you can get much better specs with much lower price from Asus, lenovo and others. Alienware should decrease their price. But also i will say, their qc is very good. Far better than my 1 month old razer blade. Razer is the shittiest
Alienware does have a laptop that is fully upgradable . The one your reviewing, does not have that option. Why would they make one that you can upgrade when they already have one?
I much prefer this version of you. To me it feels like you know what you’re talking about versus script reading and your interjected opinion carriers more weight when it’s tied to a physical person.
In my opinion it’s easier to watch. But I’m a social fella and like person to person interactions 🙏

Alienware must do something about quality control. Their laptops are junk at a crazy expensive price.
The software experience always surprises me given how much they ask for them.
What’s wrong with their software? Never used it so just curious
But the M15 R2 specifically did have that track pad issue for me as well, just took a couple days of figuring out how to make it work which was annoying
Laptops I've always had an issue with is Asus tho.
Post the damn vapor chamber temperatures

Do you still love it or no? And if you don’t what do you think you should’ve bought instead?
After about 6 months of use I agree with everything you said, I was however able to get the scrolling working by adjusting settings in the Tobii eye tracking, my biggest complaint is my bezel comes loose whenever I open the laptop, too much money for quality issues.
Ouch that sucks about the bezel, but good to hear about the touchpad! Seems like such a strange thing after all this time that they haven't resolved via update 🤔
What do you mean by bezels get loose? Are you talking about the hinge?
What is about bezel
The plastic piece that holds the screen in comes loose at the top.
@@molonlabe8979 are you still using it? I have ordered m15 r3 and a little bit nervous..overall how is the experience
Mouse issues were easily fixed
Infact u don't even need to turn off the entire tobii eyetracking software...just go in the application and turn off the 'mouse enhancements' options and you're absolutely good to go.
"It does get hot but honestly you can crank up the fans,"
Kinda can't, they sound unbearable.
Just found out about this channel, very glad to have stumbled upon it. You spoke about valid critiques in a straightforward manner that enables the buyers to make informed decision, which is much needed in this convoluted space of laptop reviews, looking forward for more!
Welcome to the channel! Cheers 👍
You're right, Jarrod, definitely not worth it. Thank you for your time, honesty and work.
My pleasure!

Just... just get a pc and regular laptop for 1k each... so much more worth it.

a Typical Dell's software issues, my experience with dell G7 I did 3 times windows clean format and drivers re installation in 2 months to get the laptop perform at its best.
out of the box I used to get 10% lower fps than the average 2080 max q laptops, CPU wattage was all over the place not stable at all even with CPU under volt + cooler still throttle " mostly power throttling'' battery draining with heavy load' it was a very bad experience , even the Rgb keyboard I wasn't able to turn it on unless I do it manually from alienware software '' software glitch"...
after the windows clean format + drivers re installation...
performance improved a lot no more stuttering due to power and thermal throttling no more battery draining.
far cry 5 FPS improved from 81 fps to 92 in ultra setting and most importantly the minimum fps improved from 64 to 77
Cinebench R20 score improved from 2421 to 2847 both with -150 undervolt
overall good laptop but dell's software is a complete trash
Sounds similar to issues I've had with other machines, basically they could do with just throwing out the software and starting again, there are just so many layers and things that get installed and updated, probably all managed by different teams.

@@JarrodsLaptops that's fair. I think I'll wait until August or September for back to school sales
Hey, what do you think the best budget gaming laptop is? G5 se? Is there anything else you recommend? I don't know if I should go with a 1660ti or a rtx
Hard to answer as I haven't tested that yet, it's arriving soon so I'll know more about it then.
You should promote more this Chanel, it’s a cool bonus for your fans
Yeah I will once there are some more videos up.
The best thing. First channel for the numbers, second for everything else. Noice
🙂
Yeah fair enough, good tip on the PSU!
i guess this in depth review which even included turning the plastic into yellow was one of the best works ive seen from u ... keep it up... loved it
Thanks, good to hear!
Thanks, I'm sure things will improve over time as I do it more.
@@JarrodsLaptops thanks for the reply.
My guess is it takes less space, but at the same time there are other machines of similar size that still manage to fit it.
Yeah definitely other options with less issues.
The TouchPad gets fixed by calibrating the eye tracker. And it works perfectly after that. Sad dell can't just explain it clearly.
Jarrod
I think this whole video looked very clean, you covered all of the basic key ponts.

Great review. Seems like contents with you sitting there with the product make it feel more genuine with is viewers.
Thanks!
I hope Jarrod does these reviews on his main channel because alot of people are missing on some good stuff
Nah planning to keep this style separate to here, full details on the main channel as usual. Once there's more content here I'll announce it officially on the main channel so people can come over to here too if they want.
i love both your channel !!!
hope you are making a ton !!!
Thanks, will do!
Good to see a new channel, I like where this one is going too
👍👍
Plot twist, Jarrod doesn't recommend this laptop because the rgb is actually not authentic, therefore the 50% performance increase is not there
btw I prefer this style of review, keep it up!
Hahaha, needs more RGB to get the full performance boost 😎
How I wish, Dell Canada didn't remove the option for the panel of
M15 r2. Now, the only panel of choice is 60hz 25ms which is bad.
Upselling the R3 which has 144hz 7ms base. #smh
Ouch that sucks, I wonder if it's all they have left because no one else ever bought the 60Hz ones.
Oh, this the older version... i thought it was the latest one. will you review the R3 anytime soon?
Yes, they told me June availability for my country.
This review was very helpful. Thanks
I've fixed the trackpad issue on my m15 r2. Aside from that it works great!
Good to hear!
Same, i think need to disable it in device manager. Using their software would reenable after reboot. Works fine for me, too many reviews talked about that, should have a clear fix by now
This is one of the few “gamery” laptop designs that I actually like. Still wouldn’t daily drive it, but I think it looks really cool.
Yeah I'm with you on that
The keyboard has a normal, non-gamery font too, which is an underrated feature. Keyboard overall is nice. Everything else in these laptops is terrible though.
I knew I recognized this voice from somewhere...
🙂
Woah,Jarrod you have a 2nd channel! When does the rog Strix scar 17 be released?or maybe bc I never saw a review about it tho
Welcome! Yeah it's new, still getting set up. I actually have a virtual ASUS event in 1-2 weeks to find out about the new models, so hopefully I'll have more info soon.
@@JarrodsLaptops I just bought an Asus rog strix yesterday. Did I make a good choice in your opinion?
The R3 has some nice improvements. Sadly I'm stuck trying to exchange mine because somethings wrong with one of its fans :/
That sucks, the Australian team told me they should have review units later this month so I'm waiting to get one to see how it goes.
@@JarrodsLaptops I hope you nab one, I'd love to see the difference(if any) the vapor chamber on the cpu makes in a controlled professional setting.
I'm officially your 293th subscriber ❤️. What an honor😁
Welcome to the channel!
Saludos, buen video.
Fair enough!
Can't believe this guy have only 13k subs
Hey jarrod!!! Can you tell me the best budget gaming laptop with a good screen? :)
There are a lot of new models I am yet to test, but many of the 144Hz panels are good like Acer Helios 300 - the new ASUS ones aren't great though like A15.
@@JarrodsLaptops what about the upcoming legion 5?
Intel is slowing down the development of tech currently, and laptops in particular.
Um, no.
In fact Intel's upcoming Tiger Lake-U processors are very much a massive step forward more so than even Rocket Lake.
I guess prior to that 14nm hasn't changed too much aside from progressively bolting on more cores.
Thanks, I'll check those bands out 😎
Hey Jarrod, first of all you got me! Cuz I thought that you had just changed the format of your videos. Lol
But you made a new channel!
Bro, I can't thank you enough for this!
I loved your other channel and I'm sure this one will do even more greater than that one! Great job and keep it all the way the "you know what" up!!!
Thanks! Haha yeah trying something new with this one 😎
Also is it possible to add more ssd to msi gs66 stealth 10SE
Also because I have lower specs (144 hertz) you think it’ll be quieter than the 300 hertz GS66 stealth i9-2070 gpu
Soldered RAM rules this laptop out for me. It seems they are trying to copy Apple bad points. The next thing will be soldered in SSD.
Yeah fair enough I get it
Please tell me TUF A15 or Zephyrus G14 for streaming, gaming and college?
Both don't have great screens, but the performance is definitely there. The 90Wh A15 for instance lasts ages.
HEY JARROD,
I checked your video recently. I was actually planning on buying the Alienware M15 R2 but now idk😂 I wondering maybe if you could please suggest me with some other options that would be great!🌼
Thanks
Mallika, the m15 R3 (newest generation) addressed most of these problems.....also Dell is running 20% right now
@@godsmack1716 In India, they don't have any off on Alienware man!
I like both channels, great job !
Awesome! Thank you!
Didn't know about this channel. Really nice.
About the notebook, it getting yellow with that much use? Unacceptable.
Welcome! Yeah not great.
What's the external gpu card you have?
Hey Jarrod , can you please suggest a laptop with same configuration , other than Razer as its out of my budget here ...
Thank you.
I want to buy a gaming laptop.which one will you suggest?
What are you using it for? What is the budget? Not enough info to go on.
Idle at 52c? That's just stupid high. I get 31c at idle on my Helios 300.
It's definitely on the warmer side, while suboptimal I don't think it's really hurting anything, unless of course it's idling while using high wattage which would result in worse battery life.
@@JarrodsLaptops yes, it doesn't seem to mean anything bad, but it is quite high. Love the videos

Wud this be an office friendly latop👩💻? I’m not much of a gamer but I do appreciate nice screen graphics for watching movies and such. I’m just sold on the keyboard lighting and the back lighting that looks extremely gorgeous.
I suppose so, depends how you feel about the idle fan noise, you can hear it in the thermal testing video I did on the Jarrod'sTech channel.
Love your videos so much man! I just found your second channel but you should promote this channel more cause I love this format of videos too
Thanks, I will soon once there are some more videos available!
Love all the quality metal band T's through all the vids
Thanks 🤘
What worked for me on my m17 r2 was disableing tobii and enableing again. After that two finger scrolling works
I couldn't even disable mine, it errored preventing disable lol.
@Jarrod's Laptop, which laptop should i go for, alienware m15 r3 or msi ge66 raider considering i get 300hz display in alienware and 240hz in msi.
Apart from that, everything is quite similar...
Please help, thanks
Btw gr8 video👍
Btw, i get 32 gugs of ram in alienware without tobii eye tracking
get the ge 66 it will most likely have better thermals(assumption based on previous models and how msi claim to be concentrating more on cooling) . you wont notice a difference in 240hz vs 300hz. only csgo or games like that go more than 240 even then the difference is minute. plus msi have better software too (i personally do not like alienware software at all )
Thanks, haven't tested the GE66 yet, will get it soon, so can't say, but based on the issues here and from past experience with the GE66, I'm leaning towards the GE66, but yeah need to wait til I try it out to say for sure, plus it's possible the r3 has turned things around, meant to get that later this month too.
Based on all the reviews for this, I might just end up getting the razer blade 15 advanced. Also, I heard the response time for asus g14 isn't very good, which defeats the purpose of the better amd processor.
Yeah fair enough, response time of G14 is lower compared to most indeed.
Loving the new channel my therapy right there
Welcome!
Jarod had a second channel? Ok, suscribed
Welcome!
@@santhoshraj17 That's just what I need, so I;ll check others with similar specs, maybe Dell's new models are good enough. Thank you
I just bought the m17 r2 ssd 2tb : first the screen brightness is great 👍🏻 and the fps run 144 maximum for (gta 5 and forza 4 )the temperature is run 100 degrees but if you just switch to cool mode it will be 75 , when I checked the maximum temperature for core i7 the answer was 100 degrees so I guess there’s no problem with that .

Would you recommend m17 r4 ??
Please reply, i do need your opinion
@@isodoubIet thank you body for spending time to telling your experience
If you still have this laptop, I’d be interested what a
powercfg /batteryreport
(In cmd) tells you. Given this device has been superseded and you only just got it for review, the battery has to have some level of degredation if Dell haven’t changed it out
Unfortunately I do not have it anymore, sorry :(
@@sguzi100 i guess he just hate alienware. But alienware is actually class leading gaming laptop.manufacturers
So the pic will be JL for Jarrod's Laptops? But this is the outstanding review move lol 😆😆😆
It will probably be a picture of my face 😎
Alienware does have a laptop that is fully upgradable . The one your reviewing, does not have that option. Why would they make one that you can upgrade when they already have one?
Because soldering crap to the motherboard introduces a reliability and upgradeability issue with zero upside?
