Couldn't find enough good Purgatory footage in the archive, so back to the old intro/outro format for this one. We'll be back to the new style for episodes 17 and beyond.
Depends when in January. Early January, there are fluke years where it won't be great. By end of January, you should be all good for the major runs, although Gelande may not be open. So conditions, just depends. Temps, Purg doesn't get as cold as other resorts, so generally mid-30s down to the 20s, but not brutally frigid. Crowds, just stay away from MLK weekend and they won't be an issue. I like March for Purgy, but January is definitely doable.
i think that upper Demon passing the steep spot is the best place for a 1st timer to get their 1st turns, since both side have big walls and is wide, they feel safer not having to worry going of the run, but it also helps them make there 1st S turns on snowboard, Done it dozen of times, the trick is getting them there but i got a really good system down for 1st timers that works very well, and your right about how busy it can get, i don't know why is one of my favorite Runs, probably how many options you have from natural features, lots of side hits and thank God I've had very good experiences there, good place to Butter towards the End and 180 of the rollers, so much fun can't wait. Great Review and Love how different we can see the mountain, like chair 2 is the only way you can kind off Lap the Park, so makes it hard on the weekends since is so busy, then some weekdays they close the lift and if the lift is open they close the park, i could never Win, i work weekends to try and have chill weekday on the park and is near impossible, wish they made a tow rope with 3 features that you can Lap non stop, Sad to say but i make more progress at chapman on the rails then Purg, i'm just venting cause that's my thing, but i Do Love Purg, Super Awesome Employees, lots of wooded features in the trees that i Love and so many hidden shacks, awesome tree runs and cliffs and we actually have a decent Park, that's pretty Badass.
Been there quite a few times at that time--⅓ of the time, it was almost all open, ⅓ of the time, you'd have the main front side blues and greens and a few runs in Hermosa open, and ⅓ of the time it was in between, with a solid half of everything open.

if I go to purgatory on new years day, will there be enough snow (I've heard things about the early season)

Kids under 12 ski free so this will be our go to mountain when my kids are 5-12 years old
lowkey outdated also some crazy takes in here ima have to make a repsonse
Might I inquire what makes it outdated? Personally haven't been to Purgy in 2 years, but from what I've seen, it doesn't appear much has changed.
