2023 Chevy 1500 3.5 Inch RC Lift
In this video I installed the Rough Country 3.5 SST lift with quick struts. What is a quick strut you might ask. It's a strut that is ready to be installed no pulling the old ones apart. This is a great option for an older truck or for someone who doesn't keep the factory strut.

    I've got factory power running boards on my '24 AT4X 2500HD that are lit as well. Problem is they only light up during the lock/unlock sequence, not just by opening the door. Is there something I can jumper together on the bcm to have them light up whenever door is open?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They should be lighting up when the door is open. I would check the small connector on the brain to see if it is a problem there. If not pull the fuse and see if that resets? Final I would call amp and see what they say.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are sure you are getting signal for the BCM and from the purple and purple and black wire from the obd2, now it time to start making sure the pins are properly install in the harness. I would start would the brain. This the place they tell me to start looking for pinning issues. I had a set a week ago that the harness wasn't pinned properly. It does happen. I have noticed an up tick in issues since the change over. However Real Truck is aware and have been doing their best to fix the issues. If all else fails call the number on the instructions. That will get you to a tech support person for AMP. They are good helping find the issue. And will stay on the phone for a long time if needed. Hold times might be long due to there only being 2 tech but like I said earlier they are aware and are training more costumer service reps on the boards. If you have anymore issues/questions feel free to reach back out and I will do what I can to help.

    Hey just installed my boards on a 24 Sierra 2500 and a little curious about control module location. Did you mount your module or just let it sit down in the dead space between the air box and battery? I have 2 modules as I did the vision steps and they both fit there but no mounting as of yet and didn’t want them vibrating around possibly messing something up. Your video was a great confidence booster for this job, thank you.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can use that bar that runs across the battery to mount them. I have wedged them between the battery before and haven't had an issue. If you are concerned you could use a bit of foam or cloth the help them stay in place. or if you really wanted to 3m double sided tape.

    • @randy07rp
      @randy07rp หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for replying, I ended up zip tying them together and secured them to the bracket between the air box and the battery. Initially was going to use foam wedge then 3m but I spotted an opening in that bracket to keep them secure and out of the way from anything. Didn’t think of the bracket because I had it removed so I wasn’t even looking at it lol

I thought i was gonna help myself out in that croutched position under divrside of trk so i fired my trk up and turned ac wide open to do the butt on splices on bcm side . BIG mistake i believe . Unit still does not work . Im going back and rechecking my color wires and to make sure the stab butt splce connectors r makin connection . One thing to mention w problems . The purple wires solid n blk striped are for either side of doors . Grounding either out will bypass obd2 connector and easily be a test for either side enabling up/down steps . Ive had nothing but trouble w these steps . Amazon sold a set that said it was for my trk and it wasnt . Took back off to send back . The only real difference was the stabs on obd2 dongle and had 4 wires . Purple solid ,purple blk striped, blue , white . Everything in your video (fuse bloks) etc matched the look of my trk . 2022 silvrado 1500 duramax 3.0 diesel small gurl monster . Just felt like i could add a tad to your video . Also amp reps said that most of the time its loose connections in the brain module , loose connection on the stab butt splices that they see a ton of problems when troubleshooting w custs .

      Yeah that is some good info. Unfortunately since Real Truck took over amp and they moved where they are manufactured. I have been seeing a bunch of silly issues. Like the pins are that not seated in the connector. I spent like an hour and a half going through every pin on a harness with their customer service rep. (who might I add was a rockstar for staying on the phone with me till we solved the intermittent issue.) Also I know there have been only 2 amp techs/ reps, so huge props to those guys. But yeah unfortunately QC at the factory has gone down hill since the takeover.

It comes with factory power steps and they have LED lights that turn on only when you get in and off the truck at night but I want them to stay on while driving. I was wondering if you know a way that they can be wiredto my running lamps, please let me know

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto หลายเดือนก่อน

      You would have to find and cut emove the lights 12v wire form the factory harness completely build your own harness for the lights. This isn't hard because it just power and ground (I am assuming). The hard part would be finding the wire for the lights in the factory harness. Then just run that to the power source (a parking light or aux power) and add a fuse. If you wanted to you could also wire in a relay that way it is pulling power straight form the battery. The thing is those led lights are going to pull so little power I doubt a relay would be necessary but you will want to fuse them with a 5 ish amp fuse possibly a 7.5 amp fuse. Keep in mind that any warranty on the steps would be void. Dealers don't like you messing with factory things like steps. Keep in mind I have never done this to factory steps. So I would know were to look for the wire. But yes in theory it could be done.

      Verify the YMM of you truck to make sure the boards are correct. Then at 6:50- 7:05 in the video I point at the plugs that I used. If the wiring is still not the same I would call their customer support. THE NUMBER IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. That is important because it will get you to amp costumer service not a Real Truck rep. They will be able to help you out. I know they are short staffed right now but they are good a telling you where you need to go next.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto

      I did not. My joints slid right in. I know some times I have had this issues with other parts on different kits. All I did was spread the bracket open a bit and tap it into place. This most commonly happens on cross member brackets on truck lifts 4 inches or bigger. So do to tolerances in manufacturing this can happen. That's what I would recommend.

    Why would you want to go from an auto to manual locking hub? What are the benefits?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I have herd the auto locking hubs don't always lock in or will lock in when you don't want or need. I personally have any experience. With auto locking hubs and off-roading but I would want the ability to control if they are locked or not. That way I know 100% I'm in 4wd.

    When my steps deploy I can hear the gears in the motors. Is this normal on the PowerStep XL? I have installed 2 sets before this (basic model steps) and they were super smooth. Sound is on both sides so I assume it's normal.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With the amp step XL tend to be slightly louder when it come to the motor because of the linkages being mounted to the rocker bar instead of the rocker its self. This in turn allows for more sound to reverberate due to that bar. With that being said it shouldn't be a crazy amount louder.

    A laser pointer might be helpful when identifying wires in due to the tightly clustered wire bundles. Watching the video makes me realize that maybe I shouldn't tamper with the truck's electrical system now that I see what's involved. One misstep and who knows what new problems are created. Seems to be good quality power steps though. Good video.

    Good vid, when installing on a 4th gen the lower control arm didn't hang like that, in fact it was a bear to push down to get the strut in place.

    Does the $2500 roll n lock have a lock on it?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are you asking about the Roll N Lock that is power opening and closing? If you are, it doesn't because the electric motor will keep it from being opened.

    I was told that a rolling hard top could not be put on my 2024 Silverado straight as the front of bed wider than back.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is not true. Whoever told you that is full of it and needs to read the install instructions. All three of these cover are designed to have there rails parallel. It's done with how the rail and canister are made and some sort of shims for the rails to get them as parallel as possible (there is some margin of forgiveness). For example the Roll N Lock has you add to brackets to the bed by the bulk head and some butyl to fill the gaps on the front edge of the bracket. Retrax does it though the bed rails being wider that the bulk head than the tail gate. It is important that the rails are parallel as possible so the cover can function smoothly.

    I have a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500. I assume these installs are similar. When I finished and put in the fuse the boards retracted fully, but they never deployed when I opened the doors. The obd 2 plug that they sent only had the 2 purple wires. It did not have the other 2 wires like yours. I wonder if this is why they're not working. Can't get tech support until Monday. Super frustrating. Ive been trying to narrow this down all day. I know theyre installed correctly, but they don't work. Thanks

      Unfortunately I have not herd. I'm still under the assumption that either the wrong harness or obd2 plug was sent out. Hopefully Real Truck is able to help you out and get it solved.

      @@reyzarat7831I’m having a hell of a time getting the correct OBII module for my 2024 Silverado. I kept the steps I installed on my 2021 thinking I could easily install them on the 24 but discovered I need the new module part# 19-04763-92 that has the extra two wires. Real truck said they can’t even order the module right now, said to check back in a month.

      The locking hubs I installed on this 95 ranger didn't come with any springs from what I remember (installed them 2 years ago). I believe it was the locking hub and new hub nuts the only thing I would consider spring is the thrust washer that come on the truck. What vehicle are you installing the hubs on?
