    It's sad that as this is an iRacing channel the fanboi's have to come out and slag off AMS2, 'it's too arcadey','the ai is rubbish', 'the cars are too slidey'. I sub to iRacing, have done for 5 years now. iRacing doesn't have true sim physics! Max Verstappen and the Red Line team have stated in their streams that they shared setups not based on real world car ones, they set up their cars to exploit the game engine! So I guess to people like Max iRacing is 'arcadey' too!
    They are all GAMES.
    The only people that have proper sims are F1 teams and they cost multi millions to run.
    All the sims we have access to have the ups and downs. ACC FFB is horrible and is a one trick pony, iRacing has no weather and the netcode it bad and the subscription model is awful, AC is dated and taked a lot of modding to get it to look good, rFactor is a mess of UI and strange track bugs, AMS2 is more forgiving and the multiplayer side sucks. But out of all of these titles AMS2 has made the most progress in 2022 and 2023. Their AI is really good and best of the bunch and racing (you can have custom AI files and custom FFB files to tweak).
    For my multiplay sim it's iRacing, for solo racing it's AMS2, for modding it's AC.
    Why does it have to be about 'my sim is better than yours'? How about just enjoying them for their own pluses!

    • @bfife22
      @bfife22 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Agreed. I love iRacing, but it's hard to justify the pricing model in the days of LFM, and with the netcode. Having to pay monthly for a subscription, then having to pay $12 per car and $15 per track on top of that, only to lose it all if I stop paying the subscription, even for offline play. Hell, you can't even make a private online session without them charging you. Make the content accessible for single player without a subscription and maybe you can justify it. I find iRacing fans are the most unwilling to criticize their sim of choice, but if you love something you should want it to be better! Like you said, all sims have their downsides. Unless you personally contribute to developing the game (yes I said game), it's weird to get super defensive over it.

    They are both good. I own both and I don't feel the need to slag off one at the expense of the other. I suspect the iRacing fanboys commenting haven't even tried the AMS2 ones. Personally I find AMS2 now has that perfect blend of driving joy and realism. It's not quite as punishing as iRacing, but given that many real life drivers have said that iRacing is more difficult than driving the real thing, I don't see that as a bad thing. AMS2 is certainly a sim and very far from GT7 and FM. As you said, it's great to have both options, and soon we will have a third option ( LMU ). some of the AC mods are amazing too.

    RE: rotation on brakes, I know you kept the setup default, but I'd wager most do mess with brake bias... and in AMS2 you were at 58, while it was 50 in iRacing. Of course there was more rotation on the brakes in iRacing 😅
    In regards to front-pointyness, I agree with you - it's missing some in AMS2. However that is easily dialed in with -1 rear wing and stiffening the rear ARB. I'm not good at car setups at all but I had the front perfect with very simple changes.

    Why are iRacing fanboys taking a dump on ams2 to begin with? Both games have flaws but both a tons of fun when you dance with the car, both games have great AI and also run VERY smoothly on my mid level rig. Both games have nuanced physics and are fun. Both games require realistic deiving techniques to be fast.

    I realize you're directly comparing cars here but wanted to comment on something I noticed while exploring the magnificent Le Mans truck in VR that points to the amount of detail in AMS2 that I wonder if iRacing offers.
    At one point I parked on the side of the road to admire the scenery - and to my surprise the dandelions were flaying in the gentle breeze. I have no idea if iRacing pays attention to this level of realism seeing how their graphics were developed for Pentium II machines - or whether one even cares when driving past at 300+ km/h - but such small details IMO adds to the sense of "being there".
    This is especially noticed in VR, where I stuck my head out of the car as far as it'd let me and attempted to touch the dandelion. It just feels that real. Add fog, rain, lightning to the course and it becomes scary real. I tell you, after racing in VR there's no going back.

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey buddy! Thanks so much for engaging with the videos! So iracing is beginning the huge process of updating its tracks to have better graphics, 3D kerbs etc. I think VIR, Okayama, Zandvoort, Mugello and Willow Springs are the ones complete so far - and each feature way better vegetation too. Big task to bring all tracks in the sim up to scratch!
      I think the implementation of the Tempest System in iracing (dynamic weather) will also mean wind direction etc is fully simulated. Coming in March 24 apparently!
      On VR I’m sure it’s amazing! One day I will own a PC capable of running it consistently online!!

A couple of days ago someone that posts his VR AMS2 races daily (Owen Evans) somehow managed to get snow during the race. Yes, you heard this right. AMS2 apparently has snow! And it wasn't just some constant cheap effect. It was variable and at one point the wind picked up and it looked you were in a blizzard. In AMS2! I kid you not, I learn something new about this sim on a daily basis and it never ceases to amaze me. Best money ever spent (no, not a sly on iracing slaves, just a fact)
      Edit: I also posted somewhere yesterday where they featured a trailer for LMU that they have their work cut out for them if they intend to top AMS2's Le Mans track. And based on what I saw, they're falling well short.

    Now that's a dangerous topic! I race both and they are actually very different. I've never driven anything close to an LMDh car on track (more Mazda MX5 at track days) so its more my feel. I really enjoy driving AMS2 and its made massive leaps forward. In terms of having a realxing AI sim race it can't be beaten and the new endurance pack is really excellent. iRacing is alot more work and my personal take is its strongest on the ovals and of course the online racing is the best online. All the cars in iRacing are high quality, whilst AMS2 is a bit up and down. So which ones best, it totally depends what your wanting to do.

  • @secret_one
    @secret_one 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    Another great video Ben.
    For myself I find AMS2 the easier sim to drive the LMDh cars, now is that because the cars need tweaking in AMS2 or AMS2 has a "lesser" physics model.
    I will never IRL get to drive any of these cars so I would have to go with the sim I feel "safer" in - hence AMS2.
    I prefer the sound in AMS2 as well.
    FFB in AMS2 is far far superior than what I get in iRacing. iRacing FFB for me is very weak and has no detail, it did not improve with irFFB either. These cars can put out 30Nm in some of the corners so you need that stronger FFB feeling.
    Graphics, again I think AMS2 has the edge, newer version of Le Man circuit as well. I know it is not about eye-candy. Even better if you include the rain which as we all know is not available yet in iRacing.
    As for liveries iRacing wins hands down on that. In which it can impede the number of cars on track in AMS2. I have not looked into creating liveries for AMS2 and do not know if it is even possible.
    Multiplayer - well that is easily iRacing. I am sure if more and more people get into AMS2 this will improve and I am sure Reiza will work on that side.
    Being bit of an iRacing fan boy I was suprised how much I prefer AMS2 in the LMDh and Gen2 GT3 cars. So winner for me is AMS2 in the LMDh cars.

    I think the fact we're even comparing these two games is a huge win for Reiza.
    They are a tiny company that started out building a game because they loved Brazil Stock Cars. Now they are getting LMDh endurance racing licenses and Le Mans (notoriously difficult and expensive to get a license for).
    They're still working towards a finished product. It's constantly evolving as they develop the Madness Engine and are working closely with Ian Bell (the original creator of the engine).
    I think by the end of 2024, if they can implement better MP and bigger grid sizes, we'll have a serious sim contender on our hands.

    One way to settle the "this vs. that" dilemma: how about doing a 5 lap comparison on the Le Mans and the Interlagos tracks? Of course, tune the cars to your liking as much as you wish. Then it'd be interesting to see what lap times you got with both. Along with your opinions on handling, tire wear, feeling of being at the track, FFB input and one other main criteria: which gave you the bigger smile and/or willingness to pound the wheel in frustration?
    If you have the time also do a short race, although I have no idea if that's even possible in iRacing seeing how it doesn't offer single player races (or does it?) and let us know how you feel about the AI.
    After all the overall experience is what matters at the end: whether you're left smiling from ear to ear or cracked the steering wheel in frustration. Given your experience in sim racing I'd love to hear your honest opinion at the end of such tests.

    I have tried to love AMS2, but it is still a slidey mess, with almost non existing feeling of downforce, bad behavior under braking, weird weight transfer. It has nice FFB and decent AI (but that is relative to the abysmal AI of most racing sims.) It is leaugues behind Assetto Corsca (seriously try race sim studios mods with csp physics, like their latest GT3 cars and Formula Hybrid), Rfactor 2 and Iracing (a game I do not even like that much, Iracing is so difficult to control if you go to the limit)

    Why do people say ams2 is realistic? It's fun, I'll give it that, but I never feel like I'm driving a car. The reactions of the car to inputs are totaly mechanic and have very little to do with actual physics.

      @@jps339 Dumbest argument I keep hearing. I don't need to know how real cars behave to know AMS2 physics are waaaay off. Going 200 mph over a sausage curb with a vintage f1 sideways is soo easy to correct just to name 1 instance. This is not even possible in F1 2023.

      @@Salod7806 It's debatable. I don't know about AMS2 specifically but in real life you don't have to learn inputs by heart to drive a car like in iRacing, you're supposed to be able to feel the slip angle and dance around the limit, and when you're over the limit the car won't necessarily spin out uncontrollably like they do in iRacing. I'm making broad statements but when they can't achieve perfect realism, games have to chose their design philosophy. iRacing wants us to drive on eggshells whereas other games like AC and AMS2 allow for some amount of recovery which is also realistic in its own way.

    I think AMS2 is massively overrated. The engine is just not good for sim racing, it was the same wit PC2 which was one of the first "sims" (I didn't know it was a simcade back then) I tried. I almost quit sim racing because the physics in PC2 were that bad. AMS2 has not a lot in common with AMS1, the team at Reiza are trying to make it work with the engine, but it just doesn't have a lot in common with real car handling, it feels terrible to be honest.
