Awano tattoo depicts Momotaro. He is a guy from a legend who slayed demons that where attacking his village. He had three allies that he made in this adventure, a dog, a monkey and a pheasant. Kiryu was a cocky newbie in the Dojima family under them. Its kind of just a mentality thing for him to be underestimated by his former superiors. On the other hand, Majima might even canonically be the bigger threat at this point tbh, or at least thats the impression that I got. Majima in the epilogue pretty much one ups Kiryu by a mile. Love how calm awano's theme and suddenly the song escalates. Really shows how dangerous awano is despite living the luxury life throughout his time as a lietunant
@@sageoftruth I mean the creativity. He stuffed his bat into his mouth then kicking it hard, causing awano's jaw to open both fast and hard, snapping it. Ouch.
Awano physically was the strongest Lieutenant including shibusawa, He had immense superhuman strength. If he hadn't been so laid back at the recent times. He would've been on par with Lao Gui
So Awano’s tattoo is a depiction of Momotaro, a figure from a Japanese folktale about a baby who is born from a peach and grows up to fight an army of demons. And Majima’s tattoo is a Hannya. A type of Japanese demon.
It’s really interesting that who I liked the most completely flipped as I played this game. When I started at the very beginning I liked Shibusawa, didn’t care for Awano and HATED Kuze, but then as the game progressed it completely flipped. Kuze became my favorite because of his values and true determination. Pure willpower just like Kiryu. This fight made me like Awano more, and I started to hate Shibusawa because it turned out he was nothing but a snake. Someone completely willing to do anything to succeed. Even the most despicable things. Kuze is amazing and his final fight gives me goosebumps. This fight takes close second.
Almost 100% sure thats entirely intentional. Kuze comes at you with everything on the table from the beginning. He doesn't pussy foot around. What you see is what you get and hes straightforward. Shibusawa is basically the opposite of Kiryu. Kiryu sticks to his morals as much as existentially possible, whereas Shibusawa threw them all away years ago. Kiryu has no desire for fame, glory or materialistic fulfillment while Shibusawa wants it all in spades. ...Felt almost fitting that Kuze's final fight gave me more trouble than Shibusawa. Somehow.
@@ozzysr75a I wanted Kiryu to beat the snot out of Awano for Nishiki. People always say Awano was stronger than kiryu but forget the scene where Kiryu lifts Awanos hand off of his shoulder, where they both exert alot of strength and although it was hard for Kiryu, he overpowered him. Plus they're both strong fighters
There's a reason Majima's a series favourite. Such a joy to both watch and pay as. If only we could have had that ability sooner (excluding the game that shall not be named).
Its biggest problem was that its controls sucked and it was grindy (though all Yakuza games are as grindy as you want them to be). I don't mind that it had a dumb zombie spinoff plot, that kind of thing was just in vogue in video games back then. I thought DD was an interesting villain and as nonsensical as it was it was nice to see Ryuji again. It still had all the charm and goof of a mainline Yakuza game.
Awano seems like what would have happened hadn’t kiryu had a positive figure like Kazama in his life, and had gone for the easy life. I’m sure in his prime, awano might have even been a match for kiryu given his performance in this fight, since he’s obviously not had a fight in years.
it pretty much shows in the fight as he takes wider swings and longer recovery time. Had he been in his prime he would have given Mr.Shakedown like he's nothing
I mean even in his rusty state, he managed to catch a punch from Kiryu without even flinching, and even hurting Kiryu's hand in the process, if he wasn't too lazy and decided to fight Kiryu himself, I don't think Kiryu would've made it
I missed the quicktime event and it wiped a quarter of my health on legend… That's pretty low considering he literally punches a crater into a stone wall
After a lot of thought watching this...I'm kinda glad Shimano in Kiwami didn't fight like Awano if the creative team wanted him to be unskilled yet strong and slapped him the nerfed Mr. Shakedown moveset instead. ...Because that would really be a pain in the ass if Shimano could actually fight and still have that absurd durability.
I did some research and I realized. Awano had Momotaro on his back, someone who was known to kill demons (and Majima has a Hanaya on his back). But at the same time, Momotaro has been viewed as lazy and indulged in lavish accommodation.
for awano to hit that wall hard enough to crack it it would take about 4,400,000 newtons or force to put that in perspective it only takes 4,000 to break a bone thats 1/1100 of the force used on that wall. this dude has some JoJo villian stand type strength. Awamo could instakill someone with just his fist
Awano in his prime would’ve been considered in the jojo universe a stand user or a vampire or a hamon user. The man’s worse state is literally ironically the best any human could ever wish to be
I love Awano's voice. Maybe it's the standard for the archetype, but it sounds excessively thuggish while telling of his sheer amount of experience beating on people.
This fight has so much symbolism I could be talking about it all day.. Those 2 come from very separate backgrounds.. Majima came from the life of pleasure and basically the typw of life Awano was living, but he really wanted to uoin the yakuza/fight as revealed in the start with Komaki Awano came from the life of a yakuza, and he was an excellent fighter, yet he wanted the life Majima was living with women and money.. Their tattoos (as said in another comment) make this fight more symbolic, demon va demon hunter Also their styles are the exact opposite, Majima's thug style is based off speed, precission and technique, while Awano's is based off sheer, raw power It's almost as if they were opposite to each other, which I find amazing
I also feel like the music is a pitch perfect match to the fight (often the case in this series) Its got that somber tone that I think echoes Awano’s lost fighter’s pride in favor of luxury. However once that kick ass guitar gets to kickin it shows some of that raw power and pride resurfacing, and it fits beautifully if it’s timed with the QTE. RGG always knows EXACTLY what they’re doing!
Awano's theme is a master piece . The violin represents the upper class he's been living in with hot babes and cash whereas the guitar shows the tenacity and combat he needed to get to his position, along with the piano showing his resilience and resolve when fighting majima . I mean the guy managed to punch a whole through a wall! Putting him up against majima aswell really highlights his qualities as they are 2 very different people.
aw snap, i was hoping you could have the luck again with the QTE and the music XD

What's with all the tattoo hate omfg Awano has the Japanese equivalent of Hercules about to kill a demon on his back! ...while Nishiki literally has a giant fish on his
It's not only people on youtube. The Japanese have had a history of anti-tattoo attitudes for decades now in an effort to keep tattoo-wearing criminal elements out of "respectable establishments." This is despite the fact that the Japanese themselves have had a long history of tattoo culture, and how they apply their anti-tattoo policies to foreigners who wear tattoos for other reasons.

Mazryonh That's ??? Not even relevant to what I was talking about in the least? I was talking about how people are talking badly about what Awano has tattooed on him even though his design is relatively cool in comparison to Nishikiyama's *Giant Boring Fish* tattoo.
All the shit he talked to kiryu, you always think kiryu didn’t get a shot at taking him down or he would’ve done it just as easily. BUT, considering the whole wall punch and the fact that awano blocked a punch from kiryu without even looking, I would say that kiryu didn’t have what it takes to take down awano just yet. Majima though, the mad dog was born when his love was shot, and this was simply him testing out his new teeth.
I actually like the fact that Awano's last fight was with Majima because Awano's tattoo is actually Momotaro from a Japanese legend where he was born from a peach fruit and is destined to kill demons. And in the end, Awano was beaten by this one resilient demon.
+canadmexi Takeuchi Riki (Awano) and Ozawa Hitoshi (Kuze) are around the same if you mean success in action movies. Riki is probably the best off, though (he has a huge house that literally has his name written on it multiple times and LOTS of cars). He's on TV all the time (being a guest on a talk show, singing during events/advertising his music, acting in commercials, dubbing over commercials) and that's how you measure how well someone's doing in Japan rather than movies in the West. He also does a surprising amount of voice acting that ranges from antagonists in children's movies to being a part of the Japanese dub of Mad Max.
Found it funny and rather interesting that Awano, a man appearing to be at least in his 40s, referring to a 24-year old Majima as a “dinosaur” and “nostalgic”. I know that’s more in regards to Majima’s singular outlook on what a Yakuza should be against Awano’s philosophy to “adapt to the times” - but I also think it’s rather telling of how much Awano has lost touch with his values in place of material wealth and figurative power - so much so that he sees a young man, 20 years his junior as archaic and stagnant. Great writing.

@@sageoftruth I mean the creativity. He stuffed his bat into his mouth then kicking it hard, causing awano's jaw to open both fast and hard, snapping it. Ouch.
I don't think Slugger style is canon in most situation, since we see Majima is unarmed all the time
@@narutosage37 He uses it in Kiwami tho? No?
That look at 5:44 sells the whole fight for me, it's the only legit part of the fight that's memorable and reminds you that Awano was badass.
Awano physically was the strongest Lieutenant including shibusawa, He had immense superhuman strength.
If he hadn't been so laid back at the recent times. He would've been on par with Lao Gui
That was my favorite QTE of all time. Just how awestruck he is by it. It's a damn shame he didn't survive
It's cool how even Majima was impressed by it to the point where he literally zoned out for 2 seconds
@@bitchasshoe8719 He has a revelation from this, he breaks the floor in the next game
Somehow.
In my first play through I was upset that Kiryu didn't fight Awano. I wound up being surprised!
He fought two Dojima lieutenants Kuze and Shibasawa, I also thought Kiryu would fight Awano.
If only we could have had that ability sooner (excluding the game that shall not be named).
dad souls
Shhhh, it's blasphemy to utter the name.
Majima made Dead Souls good though.
*Better than it it originally was. Which isn't saying much.
5:43
Majima: Okay then...don’t let him hit ya, Goro. If he hits you, you’ll fucking *die.*
5:40 BREAKING THE WALL, BREAKING THE WORLD, KOWASEEEE
breaking the wall!
lmao after seeing that punch, Majima just pushes Awano away like "b*tch get the fk away from me".
When the villains leaves you a good message, that's the moment where you encounter with a good villain
I mean
even in his rusty state, he managed to catch a punch from Kiryu without even flinching, and even hurting Kiryu's hand in the process, if he wasn't too lazy and decided to fight Kiryu himself, I don't think Kiryu would've made it
@@andreadebernardis4390 Yakuza 0's Kiryu no
But Kiwami 2 Kiryu would beat him
@@oiopquatro4846 yeah i meant 0
Yakuza Kiwami 2 Kiryu is even stronger than Lao Gui lmao
No. Ryuji is Dark Side Kyriu.
5:38
That epic punch matched up perfectly to the beat of the epic music
5:39 dat punch wtf...
MUI MEKO
Majima-san face gonna be flat if he didn't dodge that.
I missed the quicktime event and it wiped a quarter of my health on legend… That's pretty low considering he literally punches a crater into a stone wall
@@avensisverso don't forget about the super tough taxi that can easily survive a ton of rockets launched at it.
awano deserved a cool slow motion title card like shibusawa and kuze
yh he got disrespected by the devs a bit
they should've given him a dynamic intro
After a lot of thought watching this...I'm kinda glad Shimano in Kiwami didn't fight like Awano if the creative team wanted him to be unskilled yet strong and slapped him the nerfed Mr. Shakedown moveset instead.
...Because that would really be a pain in the ass if Shimano could actually fight and still have that absurd durability.
5:43 I actually got hit by that punch. I was amazed by it.
1:41 funny thing about that is Ibuchi told him the same thing 18 years later now look at where the two ended up.
I did some research and I realized. Awano had Momotaro on his back, someone who was known to kill demons (and Majima has a Hanaya on his back). But at the same time, Momotaro has been viewed as lazy and indulged in lavish accommodation.
5:44
Majima : bruh
This is a Toyota land cruiser moment
He broke the damm wall...
and won, no body has ever won against the WALL, Awano is the first.
I never realized how similar awano's views were to the modern villains of yakuza
the likes of Awano, Kuze, Kazama and Shimano as young men........ just imagine it.... the bloodshed....
for awano to hit that wall hard enough to crack it it would take about 4,400,000 newtons or force to put that in perspective it only takes 4,000 to break a bone thats 1/1100 of the force used on that wall. this dude has some JoJo villian stand type strength. Awamo could instakill someone with just his fist
what's more impressive is that he isn't in his prime in this fight, so imagine how strong Awano was when he was young
Awano in his prime would’ve been considered in the jojo universe a stand user or a vampire or a hamon user. The man’s worse state is literally ironically the best any human could ever wish to be
Putting it to perspective, his whole arm would've exploded simply from the sheer force of his punch. Lmao
People have different bone density, thare're some human who have bone hard enough that medical drill couldn't penetrate it
@@VR-F Wow!!!!
I love Awano's voice. Maybe it's the standard for the archetype, but it sounds excessively thuggish while telling of his sheer amount of experience beating on people.
ah, looking back on it this game was truly something special, even in comparison to other RGG games. Every boss fight was memorable.
Awano's theme is god tier like you just can't have music like that on the 2nd to last boss.
This fight has so much symbolism I could be talking about it all day..
Those 2 come from very separate backgrounds.. Majima came from the life of pleasure and basically the typw of life Awano was living, but he really wanted to uoin the yakuza/fight as revealed in the start with Komaki
Awano came from the life of a yakuza, and he was an excellent fighter, yet he wanted the life Majima was living with women and money..
Their tattoos (as said in another comment) make this fight more symbolic, demon va demon hunter
Also their styles are the exact opposite, Majima's thug style is based off speed, precission and technique, while Awano's is based off sheer, raw power
It's almost as if they were opposite to each other, which I find amazing
I also feel like the music is a pitch perfect match to the fight (often the case in this series)
Its got that somber tone that I think echoes Awano’s lost fighter’s pride in favor of luxury.
However once that kick ass guitar gets to kickin it shows some of that raw power and pride resurfacing, and it fits beautifully if it’s timed with the QTE.
RGG always knows EXACTLY what they’re doing!
"The ink on my back's faded half to hell"
*looks like it just got finished yesterday*
Awano's theme is a master piece . The violin represents the upper class he's been living in with hot babes and cash whereas the guitar shows the tenacity and combat he needed to get to his position, along with the piano showing his resilience and resolve when fighting majima . I mean the guy managed to punch a whole through a wall! Putting him up against majima aswell really highlights his qualities as they are 2 very different people.
aw snap, i was hoping you could have the luck again with the QTE and the music XD
What's with all the tattoo hate omfg
Awano has the Japanese equivalent of Hercules about to kill a demon on his back!
...while Nishiki literally has a giant fish on his
It's not only people on youtube.
I was talking about anti-tattoo sentiment in Japan in general. What you' saw here is just a small example of what you'd find over there.
Mazryonh Still not relevant to my comment, my dude
@Mazaryonh Cute backpedaling ya' got there.
Ive always loved his "HO HUUAGH!!"
Such a good fuckin' voiceline :)
5:35 to 5:48 seems like a great ass music sync imo
I literally almost shat my pants when he fucking demolished the wall with one punch.
Awano has got to be my favourite antagonist by far
Awano moveset is definitely the same as Watase from Yakuza 5 xD
No, it kinda reminds of it, but it's different.
Awano would definitely be at the head of the Tojo Clan is he never gave into the easy lifestyle and kept on fighting
If awano didn’t live such a luxurious and partying life no doubt he would’ve been stronger than keiji
The finale filled my brain with indescribable amounts of dopamine
5:18 yes, that's smile of the crazy dog from Shimano 😎
All the shit he talked to kiryu, you always think kiryu didn’t get a shot at taking him down or he would’ve done it just as easily. BUT, considering the whole wall punch and the fact that awano blocked a punch from kiryu without even looking, I would say that kiryu didn’t have what it takes to take down awano just yet. Majima though, the mad dog was born when his love was shot, and this was simply him testing out his new teeth.
5:39 idk why but the noise Awano makes before punching the wall is fucking hilarious to me
5:41 is so iconic the way be dodged that punch
I actually like the fact that Awano's last fight was with Majima because Awano's tattoo is actually Momotaro from a Japanese legend where he was born from a peach fruit and is destined to kill demons. And in the end, Awano was beaten by this one resilient demon.
Awano just looks like he wants to host a late night TV show...
6:30 why was that satisfying for some reason
Awano was prolly my favorite dojima leader in the game
yakuza 0: astonished by awano cracking the wall
yakuza kiwami: shatters the floor with his goddamn fist.
True character progression
Imagine placing an ad right when the fight begins, actual weirdchamp
I love this game everyone Have their Intresting Back Story..
*Interesting
Had the makings of a varsity athlete
Majango: calls Awano weak. Majango after witnessing Awano damage the wall: never mind.
Fun fact, wall which awano punched wasnt only one, I stabbed Lao guis hand on different wall and it broke as well
i failed his qte on my first try, and i'm suprised Majima's skull didn't just bust open right there
5:43 This look on Majima face. :)
Like..."What the hell, man?!"
Majima:Holly fuck I almost died
I didn’t use slugger the whole time out of respect of the man. A good classic brawl
I use Slugger on Lao GUI though . Bastard cheats , so do I .
watching this because tbfp cheesed it with the knife counter
Hated that SOOOO much.
Cheesed it with the bat swing move. If you get him in a corner you can just bat swing him to death and he won't be able to move or block
Awano: Shatters wall
Majima: I should start a construction company
Nameita
Who:s the best Yakuza actor career wise?
I mean who has the best movies?
+canadmexi They usually star in the same movies like 8 or 9 times out of 10 so that's hard to say tbh. Riki is usually the lead, if that helps
Someone says awano punches are 1.6 million pound force. Fucking legend
Imagine if Awano gave his full effort before he got into the easy life, he would be bitchslapping Shibusawa 9 times over.
5:44 majima:NOW THAT'S A LOTTA DAMAGE!
And the thing that shocks me most that this was him when he was rusty. Imagine if he was still in his prime and didn’t let the easy life get to him.
He would bust the dojima hq down by punching that wall
Found it funny and rather interesting that Awano, a man appearing to be at least in his 40s, referring to a 24-year old Majima as a “dinosaur” and “nostalgic”. I know that’s more in regards to Majima’s singular outlook on what a Yakuza should be against Awano’s philosophy to “adapt to the times” - but I also think it’s rather telling of how much Awano has lost touch with his values in place of material wealth and figurative power - so much so that he sees a young man, 20 years his junior as archaic and stagnant. Great writing.
That wall punch had to have fractured at least a couple knuckles holy shit
Bruh this guy Cracks a Wall with just his punch O_O
Hiroki Awano (With Vengeance).
And people say Kiryu is strong? Look at Awano, this is him while completely rusty and he cracked a brick/concrete wall. Bro could blow up a person if he punched them hard enough.
Fight starts at 4:05
Imagine if saejima picked a fight with awano tho, that's a fight I'd love to see.
I was watching the movie video and since the video clipped fights to advance the story, i never cared for watching fights, even between key characters like kuze or nishiyaki
Awano though... This is a fight I've been waiting since the start. And damn, if this isn't cathartic
