I hope you still give it a chance (because i did put it more effort than planned lol and because ily guys) EDIT: also made text impossible to read. Lmao what a disaster I am so sorry 😅

When I'm asked what my favorite Beatle album is I always tell them Help has always been my favorite since I was a little boy in the sixties.I saw.the movie at the theater in 1966 too.
I have always enjoyed the "Help" album. Paul really comes to the fore on lead guitar, just as well because George's guitar solos were somewhat restricted after 1964.
I love how your knowledge of The Beatles has grown! There’s so much to discover that it’s hard to convey . All I can say is…..enjoy! One more note. Yesterday is the most covered song of all time or very close to it so yes, I understand why you would want to skip it. But, make it the last song you listen to one night with the lights down low and no distractions, to understand why.
Help Is totally boss! :) no song outstays it’s welcome. Masterpiece from beginning to end. They had to change because they’d already accomplished being the perfect 4 piece rock n roll band )
Help is an album that does get unfairly overlooked.....but that's mostly because it was followed by the Fabs' golden period: Rubber Soul, Revolver and Pepper. But yeah, on its own, Help is a strong piece of work. And it's amusing how Yesterday is the second-to-last song followed by a whoop-it-up cover of Dizzy Miss Lizzy. I'd say Help is an 8 on a 10 scale by Beatles standards.
HELP! has always been one of my favorite early Beatles albums (1964 - 1965). And I agree with your statement about skipping “Yesterday” when playing the album. I was never a fan of Yesterday. It actually sounds out of place on HELP! I hope that HELP! gets the box set treatment in the future. It would be great to hear alternate versions and other studio outtakes from the recording sessions.
Great to hear some love for The Night Before. It seems to have been criminally forgotten. Nobody talks about it. Paul really puts across the hurt and confusion of the guy. He is lashing out and it is powerful stuff.
I think some older US fans tend not to see Help! as a proper Beatles album, because these tracks did not arrive together as an album over there until the CD releases in the late eighties. That probably has something to do with its surprisingly low standing with some people. And it's why Rubber Soul is generally seen as their folk-rock album (and hence rock album, which apparently matters to some people) when this is obviously every bit as much that, if not more so. John may have been wearing the Bob Dylan cap on the back cover of A Hard Day's Night (and I'd guess that's what the working title for It's Only Love - That's A Nice Hat - was referring to), but this is the album where they showed they'd figured out how to assimilate Dylan the way they'd assimilated all those older influences. It's evident that The Beatles had spent 1964 listening to The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and then Another Side Of Bob Dylan. But it also became evident that Dylan had spent the same period listening to The Beatles, and out of this feedback loop came all kinds of wonderful things. (And, I mean, they're obviously very different things, but compare "loving you-OOOO" with "all I really want to do-OOOO".)
See, this is why I should have looked stuff up before I made a video, facepalm. Thanks so much for this informative comment, this is so interesting and helpful (and a little embarrassing, I wish I knew that). Thank you
I'll always have a special place in my heart the Help LP bcuz virtually every song is upbeat and joyful. This was the first album, imo, where Paul's bass has more of a livelier feel to it. The title song is an all time favorite of mine bcuz all the four of them have a standout performance in it; George plays that great riff, Paul's energetic bass lines, John keeps the song together with perfect rhythm and ofc, Ringo's well-timed drum fills. As always, the singing is a highlight, particularly the unusual vocal structuring whereas Paul and George lines preceed John in the verses instead the other way around. I also love the way they exchange their vocals parts at the end of the song... John, Paul and George: "Won't you please, please" Paul and George: "Help" John: "Me" Paul and George: "Help" John: "Me" Paul and George: "Help" John, Paul and George: "Me, ommm" I agree that Yesterday is the most overplayed song in the Beatles catalog right along side with Hey Jude, so I can't fault you for your actions. However, the one part of the song I always look forward to hear is when the violin plays that long note and smoothly blends with Paul's vocals where he sings "hide away" on the last line. It's a thing of beauty. I believe the violinist was given credit for playing it this way.
When I was first listening to The Beatles Help was my favorite album and I would listen to it all the time with no skips. Now that I'm older my favorite album is Abbey Road.
You're absolutely right about this album. I also really love the movie. Sure it's a sellout. But it's really well produced it's funny. It's the only actual film where the Fab four act that they didn't do too bad. AND YOU'RE MY HERO OF THE WEEK! Believe me, your opinion absolutely matters. Mostly because you're 150% right about this! I give you a thumbs up on this video. Not sure if I'll like whatever other content you have. I hope you have success with your channel. Lots of stuff out here. Sincerely, Sal

Great video. I love your passion and enthusiasm! Personally, I go back and forth between Hard day's Night/Help/Revolver as my favorite Beatles record. Currently, it's Revolver. Stay awesome!
I'm doing a help deep dive myself the last of the early sound, wonderfully crafted. And mature,I am also a. Admirra of Beatles for sale .I am a old fart. as we say in England your energy and love of this group is good. to see thank you
I forgive you for what you said about Yesterday, 😊 because it’s Beatles, I know you’ll end up re-appreciating it. That’s kind of the way some of their really popular ones are for me. I know what you mean, there are ones you just hear them so often, but when you let a big chunk of time go by, and then relisten to it, it feels fresh again. They’ve done that to me all my life.
You're comment about yesterday makes sense to me bc I rlly don't like hey jude purely bc of the fact that I've heard it so many times that if it's played in public I outwardly roll my eyes 🥲 don't get me wrong it's fine I'm just a bit sick of hearing it everywhere when there are far superior songs (like hey bulldog or rain) that get barely any of the attention they deserve yk?
Agreed, great album and, in my opinion, great movie! I am assuming you are also a fan of the film. In the U.S., we got "Help!" as an album of hits (basically side 1 of the album) and several other soundtrack instrumentals, from the film. I love that version of the album! I grew up on it! It introduced me, as a 7 or 8 -year old, to Indian music, Classical music, Jazz (by way of the James Bond franchise), and...other strange oddities. I loved that film since I was a kid -- they used to have "Beatles Week" on Channel 7 TV (I grew up in Maryland) and I remember seeing Help! for the first time and not realizing the first 2-3 minutes was actually the movie. I got really upset because I wanted to see The Beatles; I just didn't realize they open the film with that "Cold" opening, in the Temple, getting ready for the human sacrifice. I walked away miffed and returned later to discover it was the Beatle film after all! Numbnutz. I learned a valuable lesson that day: be prepared for "happy-strangeness" with the Beatles! Anyway, how do you feel about the U.S. release of Help! Isn't it fun?
Hit reply instead of comment before, ug... it was just about how it feels to sing these and so many Beatles songs.Just a magic feeling even with clunky giant headphones that silence my own voice...I wish John secretly knew he had a great voice and just shy to admit that. Well, honestly feels euphoric to me whether my voice is good or bad. I could write much more but I'm in my own head even as I write. Thanks again for this.
Hi there just found you so to speak I'm a Beatles fan too I love all the Beatles albums I've been to Liverpool I've been to menlove Avenue which is John Lennon's childhood home I've been to the cabin and yes I've been to Abbey Road the reason John Lennon wrote help because was because at the time he said he was going through his fat Elvis period and it was a cry for help apparently
The Help album has always been one of my favourites. I think we must have duplicate brains, at least in this niche. Everything from the niggling, sarcastic but sublime guitar licks on Another Girl to the electric piano which is such a feature generally I can't remember a comment of yours I disagree with. Yesterday is also a song I can logically admire but find it hard to warm to. It takes an effort for me to appreciate it. I know what you mean about some of the lyrics sounding undesirably obsessive in 2023, "I wouldn't let you leave me" etc. but in the context of the time they were just appreciated, by women as well as men, as being a declaration of how fervent the singer's love was. Don't forget that women were swooning in their millions over songs like this. I think you would look long and hard to find contemporary records of anyone questioning this. It just wasn't seen or intended as anything potentially sinister. In 60 years time we will no doubt be harshly judged by the prevailing attitudes of 2083 and that won't be fair either.
I’m glad you get what I mean about yesterday. And I agree about the lyrics. I obviously don’t mind, I love those songs. I definitely see less charitable opinions but it’s so important to contextualize!
Where to start? No need to defend "Help," great album, great movie. (I'm right there with you about "Yesterday." If I never heard it again, I'd be ok. I'd also be ok with Paul singing every Beatles song if John and George could sing harmonies on every song. I've yet to hear anything more beautiful than those two sing together. Lastly, I own and all black cat with amber eyes, and you don't manage the cat, the cat manages you. Cheers on another great video and looking forward to the next!
Thanks so much Steve D! The cat wins every time. My other two cats aren’t black and you’ll probably never see them in videos. They literally do not care.
You know this, but there are two versions of the HELP album, the USA version which was the soundtrack of the movie and the British one with nothing but Beatles songs. "Oh, well, gee, NOTHING, but Beatles songs? what a tragedy" lol. The USA version had selections from the movie music and not the other songs like Yesterday, etc. Only the 7 songs from the movie and the movie music instrumentals. I really love George's I Need You. As for the album, the British album was not available to the USA for what seemed years, we didn't know they existed until at least the mid 1970's, as we grew up with the USA versions of all Beatles Albums. The idea is most are talking about the British albums in retrospect, without having experienced the USA albums first, as if only the British albums [of which I agree are mostly much better] were available to all. Just saying, that's not how it went down for us USA boomers, and that we ARE the full retrospect....with no bragging here, just stating a fact of the differences when we say this or that album and it is not correct to assume that's what ALL people heard when they were new.
Help! is a great album which was let down by the technical guys. The best sounding copy of the album is the DeAgostini release. This is one of the few Beatles albums that is better in stereo than mono. If you love Help! you should definitely listen to Ouch! by The Rutles. Neil Innes wrote all The Rutles songs and, although they are Beatles parodies, they're brilliant in their own right.
I love the whole Help! album (including Yesterday…come on, it’s only two minutes long!). My gripe is George Martin’s 1987 mix of Dizzy Miss Lizzy. He did a terrible job with the added echo on John’s voice. It was totally unnecessary. Give me the 1965 mix any day.
My favorite track from "Help" is... "I'm down". Yes, it's not on the album, just the flip side of the single. Regrattable. What a great hard rocker. Yes, the lyrics... forget it, but McCartney goes wild, that the ears are flaring. Unfortunately, unlike "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", they never really got the track right live. But well, nobody's perfect.
@@larsland I actually only know 2 live versions, that halfway generate the energy of the studio version. The one from the Blackpool TV show in 1965 and one from the live show in Atlanta nearly three weeks later. The rest known to me: well...
