      I love Canada for many reasons but thank God those of us in the U.S. were never told to stay in our seats. I'm surprised in Montreal Freddie didn't jump down and start yanking people up to the stage. He loved it-- all the bands back then did. Who wouldn't love a swarm of kids idolizing you at your feet?

      @@davebain1982 I appreciate them all. I've been a Queen fan longer than I care to remember. All of the band individually are/were epic musicians. Freddie though was the one the record states who wasn't pleased about the director asking the audience to behave in a certain way. I don't know if the others got involved as well.

    The fast version of WWRY is definitely a tragically under-appreciated heavy Queen gem!

    Great reaction. I love this version, too. The company that was filming the Montreal performance had requested the audience keep the noise down so the audience wouldn’t interfere with their filming. Freddie was angry throughout the performance and did all he could to get the audience out of their seats and react as they normally would.

      Love it when later he tells them it's ok to move their asses around, then tosses off 'You can take all your clothes off if ya want.' 😂 Good thing he never had to say that in the U.S. Some of us would've done it, landing us, and Freddie in a jail cell for the night.

    My Fun-fact: The fast version of We Will Rock You was the very first Queen song I ever heard - and I loved it so much, that I became a huge Queen-Fan. I got the Queen tape "Live Killers 1979" from my uncle and it starts with this version/song ... and so I became a Queen fan! But that's more then 30 years ago! ^^+gg Yeah, I'm getting old! :-)

    • @3ScotsInk
      @3ScotsInk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't feel badly-- like they say, 'what is the option?' And many of us here are older than you, so there's that. First song I heard by them (and the first time I ever heard of them) was 'Keep Yourself Alive' in the summer of '73. Saw them live the first time in April of '74 when they were, believe it or not, the warm up band for Mott the Hoople (another great band that is so underrated it's a tragedy, seriously). They also should be applauded, and lauded, for specifically choosing Queen to go with them on their first American tour. Had they not, who knows how history may have been changed, because back then, to be international superstars, bands HAD to win over American audiences. Thank you Ian Hunter, Mott's lead singer and a friend of Freddie's, for bringing them here with you. And speaking of older-- Ian Hunter is still alive and still performing with Mott's other surviving members, at 82 years old.

    There were two concerts in Montreal done especially so they could be filmed. There were camera crews all around the stage and security were told to keep the audience in their seats and keep them quiet. Freddie spent the entire time trying to get everyone Out of their seats! He was also royally pissed off at the film production people. He felt they were in his way and they wanted him to do the same moves exactly on each night so they’d have continuity when it came to editing the 2 shows into 1. But Freddie’s moves weren’t choreographed so by wearing the little bitty shorts later was his way of giving the finger to the production people. He succeeded in getting everyone up out of their seats by the end though. Don’t piss off Freddie 😅

    Yes I also prefer this version to the original. This has so much more to offer and more energy. About why the crowd couldn't stand up and stuff, the security didn't allow them to go crazy or something. But Queen tried to get them to stand up. Back stage Queen were really pissed off of how the camera and everything was in the way of how they wanted it to be, they couldn't get the crowd to respond as they wanted. But still the video and sound quality is amazing.

      The show's director really pissed off the band.
      He tried to direct the audience, tried to direct Freddie! He made the camera crew get in the way...
      Overall, every song is faster and angrier as a result, and really is all the better for it!
      Freddie, of course, managed to turn the audience into an excited mass, in spite of their 'insructions' to sit down and be quiet!

    Please consider checking out Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes." th-cam.com/video/9IqiRY60ZDE/w-d-xo.html See my other comment about Mott and what all of us Queen fans owe them. David Bowie loved Mott, heard they were on the verge of giving up, dismantling the band, so he quickly wrote "Dudes" and fucking GAVE it to them. Mott immediately knew it was a hit, and it was. Though Bowie did several versions himself over the years, Mott's is in the top 100 songs that changed music forever. Anyway, "Dudes" got Mott entree to America, which was essential for widespread success. They were friends with Queen, heard Queen was teetering on the verge of giving up, and invited them first on their '73 UK tour as Mott's warm up band; then extended the invite to their subsequent '74 tour. Obviously, Queen was never a warm up band again after that. And Queen, like Bowie & Mott, paid it forward as well, taking another struggling band on their first headliner tour to the U.S. So, yeah, it was a web of incredible British talent who extended their hands to others. Something we all should do more of in our lives, whoever we are, whatever our passions/talents are. Sorry for the long comment, but this IS music history-- how Queen first made it to America, with a little help from their friends. Yet few know the story, and I've not yet seen even one reactor react to a Mott the Hoople song. Could you be the first? Thanks.

    Remember, the people in the crowd are Canadian. It would not seem proper to stand up and boogie with the band, I guess. Apparently there was a lot of security at this show, Freddie wasn't happy about it. Later in the show he goes up to the crowd and tells them that them can move their asses around a bit if they want, we don't mind. That is Freddie speak for "there is too much security."

    Great reaction! It is great that you have reacted to the fast version. I have always liked it better then the original. The audience is one big issue I have with the Montreal concert, also the continuity is not great when watching the concert in one go. Queen live at the Bowl Milton Keynes 1982 is a far better concert. There are many Queen concerts better then Montreal 1981, people just like this one because of the video quality.
