Queen knew how to open a show
They loved to suprice us with new versions. Freddie said "why sing it like on the album? Then we can all go home, listening to that" He was right 🤘 They had twist and turns at their live shows, and ppl loved that 🤗
This is the show opener and it is so good. I like it fast better than the usual slower chant version of the song. Brian had actually recorded that thunder in the beginning so it is real, not created on a synth or anything. That is how you open a show!!! The ending of this show has the regular version of this song sandwiched with We Are The Champions but the band sort of thought that We Will Rock You at the end of a concert really didn't make a lot of sense so they wrote this amped up arrangement and used it as a show opener. It really super-charged the audience. I recently got to see this whole Montreal Concert in IMAX and it was fantastic. It was like being right there and in the front row. It was so good that I went back again in a couple of days. It was a limited run, and only played a two week schedule and if you didn't follow the band on social media, you would have missed it because it was not advertised. Watching this on that giant screen was incredible and the sound was so good that it vibrated through my whole body, just like it would have at a concert.
I remember a video of them during practice at some venue and Freddie saying, "Why would we put that at the end when we've already rocked them?" He was adorable.

This entire concert if fantastic--I saw it in an IMAX theatre in January when they re-released it--almost like being there. They do my favorite live version of Bohemian Rhapsody in this concert.
Same. I asked my 30-something daughter to come with. She had only heard Queen on radio and was blown away by their live performance. (Also, quite certain she now has a crush on Freddie that will last a lifetime.)
It was freaking amazing! They're going to release it on the Disney Channel. I'm not sure when. They may have already. It's a hell of a lot better than watching it in bits and pieces on TH-cam.

That version of it is so fantastic for a show opener!! Definitely a great upbeat version of a timeless classic! That whole Montreal concert is just amazing. Roger Taylor’s drum solos are incredible ❤❤

I saw them on this tour in New Haven CT. Billy Squier opened for them. I was 16! Good times

they opened the american tour in 1977 with the original slow version of we will rock, but it did'nt work, so brian came up with this different arrangement, when they played it at the end of the show with we are the champions freddie said on camera "there's no point singing we will rock you after we've rocked them", so they came up with this as an opener to their shows, another favourite quote of mine was when roger was talking about live shows and said "we liked to blind them and deafen them in the first 10 minutes" and they did! 👑✊🏼🇬🇧

Yeah I saw them several times beginning in 1975 and have never seen anyone like them since. Freddie on stage was absolutely mesmerizing.

With the Fast WWR Queen opened all concerts from 1977 to 1985 except several in 1982 when opening was with a "Hero" from Flash Gorgon OST.
This version not in the album, but Queen have a studio record of the Fast WWR signed We will rock you BBC or We will rock you (fast)

The thinking was “why would we sing WWRY at the end of the show?” Or as Freddie put it “we’ve already 🎉picked you for 2 hrs!”
I love & they do play the original at the end of the show.
This audience is very subdued bc the guys filming kept yelling for them to stay in their seats. Pissed off Queen obviously.

The version at 1982 MILTON KEYNES BOWL is literally a GUHZILLION times BETTER.
(Honestly, I almost never watch this Montreal one because Freddie’s “Angry Young Man” vibes are exuding off him in WAVES. (Brian May uses the term “Angry Young Man” to describe Freddie’s entire Montreal “experience”… which is pretty accurate!)
