I have the B535 - even with the supplied bunny-ears external antennas the signal strength in my area was only 2-3 bars. I attached a truly 'external' antenna (Poynting) on side of house facing the network mast and took the leads into house and rear of router. Constant 5 bars and improved speeds, now.

That's awesome to hear that you're external antenna worked so well. If I could I would do the same thing by my apartment wouldn't allow it

@@AldoJames I achieved the same thing and have my pointing XPOL-1 V2 5G stuck to the inside of the window, although it is pointing to a visible mast.

Thank you so so so much! This video is exactly what I was looking for! Although it's not the exact same 4G router, the principle is still the same & applies to *ANY* 4G router with provisions for adding external antennas.
    Well done mate 😎👍

I have this router, but the 5G version. My data plan is unfortunately limited to 4G so this info is relevant to me - today in September 2023. I didn't even know that this router had an option to attach a external antennas. Will give this a go, since it worked for you.

@@AldoJames I did a few tests and the antennas made no difference, so I put them back in their box.
Your reply reminded me that I should test it again. Unfortunately last time I did that, there were people using the internet during my testing. I'll try again in the wee hours of the morning, and again when everyone is out of the house

@@AldoJames Could you help me out? Im using this router and i moved aparments, like 150 meters from the last location i lived, just across the street, and my internet went from good to horrible in the new aparment, using the same router and same provider, basicly plug and play, i called them and they said that my locations signal is great and i shudnt be having any issues. Im getting about 5.5mbit right now. Is it worth for me trying to buy the antenas?

  • @SidBonkers51

I have a Huawei B535 and found the bunny ears made little to no difference at all, I then purchased a Poynting XPOL-1 V2 5G and wow!! More than doubled my 4G signal and almost completely lost the drop off I suffered after 5 pm.
Bunny ears average = 12 Mbps down. Pointing average = 37.12 down couldnt be happier, although it took a bit of time and effort to get it positioned correctly which almost doubled the speeds.
Ps I am moving soon so have the XPOL-1 V2 mounted to the inside of a window with the supplied suction mounts

In my place ONLY outdoor antennas improve reception and speed (Huawei B311, SMARTY). I bought one with 1 sucker cup (£11) and put it outside my window = 3 bars constantly, average 20 Mbits/sec down, 15 Mbits up. All indoor antennas won't work here.

You're welcome, the router should actually automatically download and install its firmware updates. If not, you can manually force it by going to 192.168.8.1/ in you web browser, sign in with your user name & password, click on settings > system settings and make sure auto-update & online update are ticked :) hope this helps!

Are thses antennas increase cellural signal (towards the cellular towers) or increase wifi signal insice the house? How to tell the diferance when buying new Mobile router? I beleive most of them just trying to boost the inside wifi signal.

    • @AldoJames
      @AldoJames  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Vedran, these are for better connection to the cellular network :) If you wanted to boost wi-fi signal in the house, you'd be better off with a range extender.
Here's a bit more details on external antennas if you're interested - Both 4G and 5G technology use a technique called Multiple In Multiple Out (or MIMO for short) to increase the maximum speed available on the network. The MIMO technique requires your router to use multiple antenna to communicate with the mobile network at the same time.
Nowadays, most 4G routers support 2×2 MIMO which means it will use 2 antenna to communicate with the network. For this reason, your router is likely to have two sockets for an external antenna to be connected. You can therefore choose to buy either two separate antenna or you can use a combined dual antenna system which will connect to both ports.
