Before it was Little Dicks...Its was Vahsen's Tavern. (from approx 1940's to 1973). Janis Joplin's bio book refers to it as "Vahsen's Saloon". It was a three room Tavern. I remember going to the "Tavern" after concerts at the Cap from 70 thru 73. Caught the last of the Feb '71 Dead Show's and the Joe Cocker MD&E show (among others). The Vahsen family sold the business to "Modern Cigarette Service" (who owned the building next door) in 1973. Shortly after that sale..it was called "Freddies Place". "Freddie" sold the business (only) to Dick Gildersleeve. It was renamed "Little Dicks" in '76 or '77. I know this since I grew up in Port Chester and am related to the Vahsen Family.
The Metro North parking lot is directly across the street, and allows for parking on evenings and weekends. It is also location within a block of three municipal parking lots.
Yes, my Grandparents owned the speakeasy. I grew up and worked at Vahsen's Tavern ❤
Wow what history that’s incredible. Are you going to check out the brewery once it opens??
It was Vashen's tavern when Janis Joplin wrote Mercadies Benz Aug 9th 1970
Thank you for the info. Love to hear about the history of these locations and buildings
The correct spelling is Vahsen's. My spell check changed it.
So exciting! We miss Coals food so much! And the beer is excellent!
Yes that was a great spot. Looking forward to see what he does with this larger space. Can’t wait to check in and do another update video
Vahsen's Tavern was when Janis Joplin wrote Mercedes Benz. Dicks was decades later.
Vahsen's was a speakeasy during prohibition.
This fun fact is extremely cool. I see Vashen in your name are you related?!

where's the parking ? that's a heavy traffic corner.

so no new parking infrastructure, just more burden on the little parking that's already available. This seems so short-sitted@@cullymoore4673
Its a downtown in a city. They will lean on a lot of locals and easy train access.
Can’t wait to see what food Tim Shanley brings to Run and Hide Brewing Co.
