Modded my 3DS years ago(then did my sons a few years after that), and much like every other system or handheld I've ever done it for, it opens up an entire new world. The open source and mod communities are just a great group of people looking to get the most out of their systems, when companies like Nintendo leave them to rot. One of the best recent projects for the 3DS is "Red Viper" which allows you to run Virtual Boy games on the 3DS(In 3D no less), which was a HUGE missed opportunity when the 3DS was actually still being sold. Always happy to see another happy custom FW user in the community, as the more the merrier.

I bought a modded New 2DS XL and I LOOOOOOVE IT! I'm sad I missed the 3DS era of Nintendo, but I'm glad I was able to still get a 2DS at a decent price, they might skyrocket in price in a few years! Thank you for sharing what you have on your modded 3DS, I needed some recommendations! :D
TWL Savetool is so useful, if you have any DS game with a save file you don’t want to lose. Saves anyone the time and effort from losing the amount of hours spent on a game.
That 3ds is so cute! I just got my 2ds XL modded after having it I'm my drawer collecting dust for a couple years and have been having so much fun! If you're still having issues with holding your 3ds while playing I recommend looking into getting a grip case for your 3ds that gives it a more typical controller feel in the hands. I bought one cause my hands were getting cramped while holding my 2ds for certain games and it has made a world of difference.
I love the variety of games you have on your console and the possibilities a modded console brings 🙌🏻 It really brings back memories to see all this and I’ve wanted to mod my 2ds for months now but I’m not brave enough to try 😭 hopefully after watching another dozen videos about it I’ll give it a try (Ps : I love your piplup theme ❤ I’d definitely install a similar one if I modded my console (piplup is my favourite pokemon and the first one I caught from my first game 💕)

honestly i am always happy seeing ppl modding their 3ds' but ik the problem with the one background, its the sound file which you can replace if you unzip the file and replace the bmg.ogg file but saying this as someone who tired to make a theme for themselves its a complicated thing with the background music
the background was downloaded off of the theme plaza using a qr code i scanned with the 3ds, so i didn't move any files. but i did download the theme with no sound, so it shouldn't be playing anyway?

I bought a new 2DS earlier this year - my first ever handheld system was the switch - and I'm truly enjoying diving into the game catalogue of the DS/3DS. I also picked up the Bratz Rock Angelz GBA game (to play on my parrtners old DS) for the PS2 nostalgia. It's unfortunately not the same game .. The vibes and overall story is there but the gameplay is different Can't wait to here what you think of Moco Moco Friends! It looks SO cute! But it didn't release physically in the EU .. That's definitely on the list of reasons why I'm still debating modding a 3DS in the future even though I'd rather get my games physically

unfortunately you can't share where to get games on youtube, i would recommend checking out the reddit for 3ds modding - which is where i got all of my information! there are also a lot of helpful people, if you run into any issues!

i found someone who installs 3ds xl capture cards on ebay!! ik in an previous video you wanted to figure out how to make content using it. i thought it was only the “new” but there is some for the regular version of the xl ll. can be pricey but worth it if you plan on making videos (:
I would recommend pokemon firered or leafgreen over pokemon blue, they're remakes and they're just way easier to play and get into compared to the original games
This video was so good I immediately bought a charger and SD card for my old 3DS I'm so excited to mod it! But omg I have so many thoughts lol first of all I DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS A GRAVITY FALLS GAME!! That's gotta be one of the first things I download for sure! I absolutely love Mario kart 7 and kid icarus uprising!!! Its the only KI game I've played but I still think about it to this day lol it was amazing. The controls are a little wonky but they physical copy came with a stand that made it easier to hold and use the stylus at the same time so if you can find one of those it should def help GAME SUGGESTIONS: okok so there's a lot but I'll cut it down lol. For 3DS games you cant go wrong with the Mario games specifically Mario 3D world was super good! Also ANY of the Zeldas they released for 3DS were amazing. For emulation I think you'd really like pokemon pinball ruby and saphire for the gameboy advanced!! Its super cute and very chill. I think you'd also like star wars episode 3 for the DS that was one of my faves! Also just wanted to say how fun it's been watching you hit your stride I'm so happy this channel is doing so well so quickly!! You're absolutely killing it hann🥳

The Incredibles and Avatar: The Last Airbender are both awesome GBA games too. Fascinated that you haven’t played Pokémon before Gen 5, they’ll probably feel incredibly slow in comparison but maybe you’ll still enjoy it. Such a fun video as always!

Any reccomendation that isn't Fantasy Life should be immediately disregarded. Get that game. It is my all time favorite and by sheer miracle and the grace of God himself, we are getting a sequel on the switch. But definitely try that. It's so cute and fun.
If you're open to suggestions, I recommend playing the professor layton series. 4 games are on DS, 3 are on 3DS, there's even a Phoenix Wright crossover game! They are fun puzzle adventure games, I always recommend them for the music, characters, and of course, a good time solvin puzzles
It's cool to see the games you're interested in that I've never even heard of. I would suggest Pokemon Yellow over Pokemon Blue if you give gen 1 a chance. It's my fav and first pokemon game. also has a few quality of life features over blue and red (Including colour). Spyro season of ice is super underrated too
Hell Yeah, Cooking Mama goated games series! I know nothing about modding consoles so my only real question is did you have to buy some software to install or is it just a download a file and install it kinda thing! Either way it looks great! Windows background is iconic! Good Shiz Bugz
@@hannahxsolo There's "Spyro: The Eternal Night" on DS and GBA, both are worth trying as they've got different gameplay to each other (but it's obviously just my preference on them)! Season of Ice just gets waaaaayyyy too frustrating at times, with near-impossible "collectibles" that are required to fight the final boss. I remember it really souring me as a kid when I got to the door for the final boss, and found out that you have to 100% the game to fight the boss. I played it again as an adult, and I didn't like it much :/

I am exactly the same way about buying tons of games and letting my backlog grow out of control because of it. It's become a bit ridiculous lately, I mainly blame Steam sales for enabling my lowkey hoarder tendencies. I'd love to see your whole game collection sometime though.
I feel like the UX for older Pokemon games just don’t hold up if you didn’t grow up with them, I hope you’ll enjoy them but you kind of have to push through unfortunately 😅
i can't speak on price points for whats worth it or not right now, but if you need to see what a good price is - i usually go to ebay & filter for listings that have been purchased recently. if people are buying that model/edition for that price or less, i would say its worth it! getting a 3ds in general is very worth it, especially when its modded because it has hundreds of hours of gameplay capabilities.
The Algorithm doing its thing I see. Lol. Anyways, I spent about maybe 600+ hrs in kid Icarus uprising. Suffice to say, I really loved the game and everything about it. There’s unfortunately no tips that I can suggest in terms of the controls, you just gotta deal with it all the way through. Play the game in bite size portion. So, tackle 1 chapter per play session… Imo the controls never bothered me. Hope you are able to enjoy the game even with that problem….best advice I can give you is to NOT raise the difficulty for any of the levels past difficulty #5. Hm, btw there’s a game that you should probably try out that’s similar to Kid Icarus uprising but much much shorter in length for the 3DS, “Liberation Maiden.” It’s a 3D aerial arcade-ish shooter, the game has a total of 5 stages to go through and each stage has optional objectives & main objectives to pad out the runtime of the game, well…depending on the difficulty you selected. The game also offers additional challenges in the form of achievements to go through to unlock neat concept art, so there’s replay value albeit tedious at may be given the game is short and you’ll be doing the same 5 stages for better scoring at such too.
i will probably get used to the controls if i put a little bit more time into it, i think i was just caught off guard by those mechanics! thank you for the advice as well! i'll also check out that game rec, as i also really enjoy collecting achievements and getting a bit of extra content in the form of concept art or developer notes!! that sounds really interesting!

I ordered a New 3DS that I’m going to be hacking once it arrives. I’m very excited to try all of the 3DS games I never got to play. May also try to see if I can get the back where you can record gameplay on the system working.
Yoshi's New Island is super fun I hope you love it, and I HIGHLY recommend you get Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS, I've played it through at least three times and it never gets old! I've been considering modding both the 3DS XL I got from one of my cousins back in '19 (he was super nice to just straight up give it to me for nothing) and the New Nintendo 3DS XL I got off eBay a few years ago. The only thing holding me back with the NN3DSXL is that I don't want to lose my saves, lol.
you should do it! i don't think you lose any saves, as long as you keep back ups of the files on your 3ds often (just incase it gets corrupted) you should be okay!
@@hannahxsolo Ironically, I actually did finally cross the metaphorical Rubicon and mod my NN3DSXL about a week after I originally posted my reply, lol. I’ve spent that time downloading games off of the Hshop and injecting GBA, SNES, and DS games on to my 3DS (super glad I had a 128GB micro SD card in the system, lol); and yeah, I made a clean unmodded back up of all my stuff to my PC before I started, so you’re correct. Once I’m done with mine I’m going to do the same with the 3DS XL my cousin gave me, then gift it to my roommate so she can play all the 3DS/DS games she used to have before her 3DS and games were stolen out of her car whilst she was at work.
Hey! There's a website called 3DS (DOT) hacks (DOT) guide! I used it (and its counterparts) for most of my console mods, and it does a really good job of explaining everything :D
@Sherlock277 please *do not (!)* follow video guides, as they are more often than not, problematic. refer to the instructions on the 3ds hacks guide. (and as a general rule of thumb, always follow written guides from the source.)

yes! i have all my themes downloaded without music, but that one theme must be bugged because it still has that weird sound. not sure why!

Kid Icarus, they sold a stand to play that game. I’m not sure how else to improve the ergonomics of the controls.

Cool setup, but maybe later I suggest that you try to buy a New 3Ds Xl. The New version is much better especially if you possibly like the 3D like me.

Im thinking about buying a 3DS. I found a supplier of refurbished 3DS for 130$. Do you think its worth it?
i can't speak on price points for whats worth it or not right now, but if you need to see what a good price is - i usually go to ebay & filter for listings that have been purchased recently. if people are buying that model/edition for that price or less, i would say its worth it!
getting a 3ds in general is very worth it, especially when its modded because it has hundreds of hours of gameplay capabilities.

Anyways, I spent about maybe 600+ hrs in kid Icarus uprising. Suffice to say, I really loved the game and everything about it.
There’s unfortunately no tips that I can suggest in terms of the controls, you just gotta deal with it all the way through.
Play the game in bite size portion. So, tackle 1 chapter per play session…
Imo the controls never bothered me. Hope you are able to enjoy the game even with that problem….best advice I can give you is to NOT raise the difficulty for any of the levels past difficulty #5.
Hm, btw there’s a game that you should probably try out that’s similar to Kid Icarus uprising but much much shorter in length for the 3DS, “Liberation Maiden.”
It’s a 3D aerial arcade-ish shooter, the game has a total of 5 stages to go through and each stage has optional objectives & main objectives to pad out the runtime of the game, well…depending on the difficulty you selected.
The game also offers additional challenges in the form of achievements to go through to unlock neat concept art, so there’s replay value albeit tedious at may be given the game is short and you’ll be doing the same 5 stages for better scoring at such too.
i will probably get used to the controls if i put a little bit more time into it, i think i was just caught off guard by those mechanics! thank you for the advice as well!
i'll also check out that game rec, as i also really enjoy collecting achievements and getting a bit of extra content in the form of concept art or developer notes!! that sounds really interesting!
try some of the japanese exclusive games. some require no knowledge of the language and are really fun!
i was avoiding them because of the language barrier! if you have any recs for ones that are fun and easier without knowing Japanese - let me know!!

I ordered a New 3DS that I’m going to be hacking once it arrives. I’m very excited to try all of the 3DS games I never got to play. May also try to see if I can get the back where you can record gameplay on the system working.

Yoshi's New Island is super fun I hope you love it, and I HIGHLY recommend you get Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS, I've played it through at least three times and it never gets old! I've been considering modding both the 3DS XL I got from one of my cousins back in '19 (he was super nice to just straight up give it to me for nothing) and the New Nintendo 3DS XL I got off eBay a few years ago. The only thing holding me back with the NN3DSXL is that I don't want to lose my saves, lol.
you should do it! i don't think you lose any saves, as long as you keep back ups of the files on your 3ds often (just incase it gets corrupted) you should be okay!
@@hannahxsolo Ironically, I actually did finally cross the metaphorical Rubicon and mod my NN3DSXL about a week after I originally posted my reply, lol. I’ve spent that time downloading games off of the Hshop and injecting GBA, SNES, and DS games on to my 3DS (super glad I had a 128GB micro SD card in the system, lol); and yeah, I made a clean unmodded back up of all my stuff to my PC before I started, so you’re correct. Once I’m done with mine I’m going to do the same with the 3DS XL my cousin gave me, then gift it to my roommate so she can play all the 3DS/DS games she used to have before her 3DS and games were stolen out of her car whilst she was at work.
I went from never owning a 3Ds to with in 24 days owning 7 how idk I have a problem..

didn't have to! the 3ds is SUPER easy to mod, you just need a 3ds, an sd card, and a computer!

Hey! There's a website called 3DS (DOT) hacks (DOT) guide! I used it (and its counterparts) for most of my console mods, and it does a really good job of explaining everything :D

refer to the instructions on the 3ds hacks guide.
(and as a general rule of thumb, always follow written guides from the source.)
