In northeastern India, a small ethnic group claims to be one of the lost tribes of Israel. The fervour of the Kuki people has persuaded the Chief Rabbi of Israel to approve their immigration to the Promised Land. Kuki men are traditionally fighters, so once in Israel most of them become soldiers, while their wives try to adjust to their new lives in the settlements.
Our reporters travelled to the valleys of West Bengal, where India meets Bangladesh and Burma, home of the mysterious Kuki tribe. These Asian Jews say they were forced into exile in this remote valley almost 27 centuries ago. Today, they practice an archaic Judaism and claim to be one of the lost tribes of Israel referred to in the Old Testament, a little like the Ethiopian Falashas.
Tensions have grown in recent years with the Indian and Burmese governments and for the Kuki people, the lure of a better future in Israel is stronger than ever. In recent years, some of them have been able to emigrate to Israel and make Aliyah. The men, who are traditionally fierce fighters, often join the Israeli army, while their families find a new home in the occupied West Bank settlements. Our Middle East correspondent went to meet some of those who have left everything behind for a new life in the Promised Land.

Tradition is Indian not Hindustani....Today Hindustani refers to the people speaking Hindustani languages- Urdu, Hindi etc. Albeit earlier Hindustan was used to refer to the South Asia's subcontinent, now in India it is different. Same with the case of Hindu. Once it was used to refer to people living in the subcontinent, but today it is referred to the people following the Hindu Vedic religion.

These Kukis who are refugees from Myanmar (Burma) and settled in Manipur have no right to be in Schedule Tribe lists of India. They came to India only in 1700s. This proves very clearly that they are not native people of Manipur (or not the earliest settlers in Manipur). Moreover, they have confirmed that they are lost tribes of Isreal. @@rt9637 I think you need to read history more. Northeast was never a part of India before the British came. When British left, they annexed the northeast to India. Northeast was independent and never was conquered before the British set foot in it. Jawaharlal Nehru cheated the Northeast people and indira Gandhi continued her father's legacy of betraying the northeast states of India.

B ritish intervened in local tribes and used to thier own benefits. Most of the Naga's and kukis are immigrants from present day Myanmar which was populated when Chinese population started march down policy. To be short we are all immigrants.
Lost doesn't mean mislaid. It means that the tribal groups assimilated into the place of their exile. However, it's not impossible that a small group held on to the religion and a small group migrated eastwards and ended up in India. Most people do! It's a great place.

Freedom of choice is a human right. You choose to be a Christian, they chose to be Jewish. One day the Mizo identity will recognize Jews as part of their people, until then the best way to escape the discrimination in their birth country is by immigration to a country where they can practice their religion without being seen as traitors.
I am an Indian and like to believe that India is a place for all religions. Of course, some extreme right wing hindus may not like this. But this belief is what makes India what it is. Just like the migrants who moved to the US. In spite of what some people in Israel or some Arab states may think, you only live in fear when you bifurcate people in the name of religion. I cant imagine people sticking together because of religion. Of course, by showing fear (of the people from other religions) you can sustain the fear long enough to keep them grouped together.

I think the research has refuted their claim of their bloodline. It is said that they started their Judaism practice during the 70s.
