I don’t know how they find enough visually impaired people who can afford tech like this. My state commission for the blind gave me a $600 handheld cctv viewer and that was the limit of assistance. I’ve never met another blind person who could afford this stuff. Refreshable braille, cane tech… I am glad it exists but it might as well be cast in gold.
My DSB office paid for the OrCam My Eye. I am a college student and I find this extremely helpful with my studies and daily life.
TBH if you can afford this kind of tech, you can almost afford a full-time aide to read stuff to you, all day & night.
As blind people we are used to paying a lot of money but I do agree, there are better options that you can use on a mobile phone. I’m guessing this device may be designed for people of a certain age or who just can’t get along with technology
I agree price is outrageous. Some programs will help pay if you are a full time student, what about everyone else

The OrCam my eye is mainly for blind or visually impaired people and the OrCam read is for people who have reading difficulties.
I love your channel. I just fascinated on how you do things and all the equipment you can use to help you get through your life. I’m not totally blind but I’m legally blind in one eye and my other eye is OK vision I’m still able to drive thankfully.

This is very helpful, not sure if I would need all the features; however, I'm actually interested in the oream my eyes, it seems it would come in handy to read books with out needing to worry of making sure you're holding the device correctly in order to get a read.

Thank you Sam for doing this video. I’m just learning about this device. I don’t know if you remember me, but I am totally blind and I can’t tell you how much this excites me. I would be interested in the glasses. Curious if it reads recipes accurately? I went blind 35 years ago and I have always missed flipping through magazines and cookbooks. I have a family member who is considering purchasing this for me but it is so expensive. Also wondering if I would be eligible for updates as technology improves. Thanks again for the video you’re very helpful.

For me, right eye, number 9 eye jab Lucentis for Wet AMD, both lens replaced, wearing thin frame eyeglasses and hearing aids, and N95 masks, so my choice would be the hand held reader, looped around my neck. Tip for you, I have a pocket magnifier bought on Amazon, about $15, it is about the width of my hand palm, has a light when pulled out, about the thickness of a deck of playing cards, think it was 3x or 5x, and it had a small 15 magnifier, brand name is Fancii, smaller one about $10, does not have the 15x maghifier. Both have lights....will get more details, but you got the basics, so why I type this is I saw the one you put into your pocket, did not have a light, seemed to me....Thanks again for Great VIdeos !!

I would love using the Orcam My Eye. Plus, I wonder if it can get updated automatically when it is on Wifi? Also, It sounds like it is using Kendra or Kimberly.
How well do they work with Be My Eyes and Ira? The other thing is I use Bluetooth headphones with my phone thus I would not be able to use both with my phone? It would be nice to have the ability to have a feature where you could pare the device up to your phone so you could have an app and through your phone, you could use your headphones connected to your phone?

Technically it’s the My eye pro. However, it’s the only thing they sell now so they just call it the My eye.
What about the Orcam MyEye smart? I’m still not sure which one because color identifiers are still weird LOL!! or does this one not anounce different colors every second. And the money identifier I like. Is the MyEye pro and the 2.0 the same thing? Hi all..

Does anyone know if the OrCam MyEye is helpful in viewing a smart phone? We can zoom in but some things don't zoom well.
Can someone use either or both to read off a computer, phone, and tablet. Basically can it read off blue light?
Can it detect the menu boards from a distance? I did a demo of the Read device and read a paper menu but a friend of mine asked if it can see far enough to read the large menu displays. I heard you say it can read street signs so how far distance can it detect text?
It can detect text that is 12 feet away from you. I work at orcam . If you want I can explain it to you better how it works

Yes, but you need to be connected to Wi-Fi for that feature on the read.
That’s great though for around the home sorting food. I have the MyEye 2 and have trouble at times lining up my head to the food item. I am hoping holding the read in my hand and moving the other hand away the right distance might helps better.
I have tried everything but still do not get notifications. Have you done a review on Eye Daptic or Inspiration by Iris vision?

It would definitely read the captions without any problem. The issue is that the captions go by so quickly that you wouldn’t be able to take a picture and have it read out loud to you before the next caption was up. Instead, I would recommend turning on audio description if it’s available. That will read the captions out loud to you.

OrCam My Eye, with facial recognition, that would work great for the police and bounty hunters too, the possibility for stalkers is incredible, but seriously they are some nice items but is the price ever going to come down? somewhere around.... lower than it is
first of all you do have to have a certen pair of frames that will hole the orcam they wont work on matel frames so you need a heavy pair of frames

How do these ourcam do with computer screens I'm a sales person who spends 90% of my day on a laptop and would benefit from this product if these work well
Hundred percent computers have screen readers that are really awesome Microsoft has some great tools Apple has some great tools for screen reading look more into your accessibility features there are a couple of others that are even more intense both including an open source and a pane version of screen readers that allow you to do a lot more than what the Orkhan would do
Yes, it reads computer screens pretty well. Basically reads any printed text. However, as the other person said, the built-in accessibility on your computer would work much better than the or cam will.

I actually was hoping it read computers well, as Im in sales and I need to read what is on other people's laptops quite often, where I don't get the luxury of having assisted technology at the ready. I just wanted to make sure before I think about this investment, I could use it for that.

Umm 🤔 if your blind....how do you know what to point at!!! My mom usually shows me something to the side and I have to tell her to move to the right or left to see it
These devices are probably mostly used by legally blind people so they don’t strain their eyes trying to read
With proper training, the person can learn to hold something in one hand and point at it pretty accurately with the other. As far as pointing at a sign and having the device read it out loud, yeah, that’s probably not going to work too well for someone who is totally blind. Remember that the keyword is totally. Not all blind people are totally blind.

Not necessarily, I know several totally blind people who use them without any problems.
