Just bought a 06’ and that’s the first thing I will fix! Thanks for the video. Good job!

Thanks for this -- another satisfied customer. I used a slightly smaller gauge wire which was easier to hide in the channel. Good as new again!

I did the repair this last weekend. No luck.

@@jfalk35 Bummer! It was all about getting the right angle to keep the wire out of the area where the attachment sticks into the channel. As said above, I found a smaller wire was helpful to use and plenty strong - I only needed a 1/16th drill bit for the wire I used. Used a dremel to remove some plastic for the pigtail from the wire. It works better almost than my driver side which is original.

Thanks so much for taking the time/effort to share this info. I installed a "magnet" a few years back and worked fine. But this is much better idea although more time/ labor intensive but not that much more. Removal and reinstallation was a snap( no pun intended). No problems. Actually I didn't completely remove the sub-panel. After removing all six bolts, I only pulled out one pillar and then, I just pulled the sub-panel down on one side far enough to use a short stubby Phillips screw driver to remove the screw holding the visor pin. Pulling out the visor was also easy to do without completely removing the sub-panel. The one very important point which wasn't that clear is making sure you don't drill thru the ( square) opening. Pin won't fit in with wire thru the opening. Done. Now my ( passenger) visor seems not to go all the way up leaving approximately 1" gap. Nut sure why, but it does stay in position. Also, bending the twisted wires into the channel is not so easily done. Anyway, it works fine! Frankly, for $25 I just might buy a new replacement for a back-up in case this "fix" fails in the future. Again thanks for sharing this visor fix.

Peter this worked a treat, easy to do & has fixed a very annoying flappy sunvisor - Thankyou !

It is easy to do. The hardest part is getting the car apart. Remember to blue loctite the interior trim screws when reassembling or they will probably back out and you will find them on the floor later.

I'm a lazy bastard, so I simply bought a replacement on ebay for $26 for my driver's visor with free shipping. I filed the tiny nub down a bit on the left side of the visor. I threaded the right side onto the metal spike on the right, and then filed the left side nub until I could gently push it into the hole until it snapped in place. The key is gentle pressure. File a little more if it feels like it might crack. The metal stud side is what keeps it from drooping. The little plastic nub is a guide to keep it level. Do the reverse on the passenger side. Worked for me! Caution: It doesn't take much pressure to file that nub: Don't smack the file into the windshield.

I too am a lazy bastard. It might be the edibles, but you lost me on the "left nub filing and threading onto the metal spike on the right" (Driver Side). I'm replacing the Passenger Side in my NC (2010) and don't want to rake out trim to do so. If you have pix or anything pls put em up. Thx driver.

Thanks for the great idea, I used .032 stainless steel safety wire at 2 spots and stop drilled the crack. Aloha!

You are welcome. This was the only REAL fix that I could come up with. Most other fixes were just temporary at best.

Thanks for the reminder to stop drill the crack. I used 3/64 safety wire as well. 1/16 drill bit worked fine.

Had exact type of crack. Used hard SS wire, less than 1/16" dia. Twisted wire tightly. Re-assembled on bench, and visor immediately started to rotate freely. Wire loop stretched and crack opened up. I am willing to bet that this fix will not work long term. Sorry.

Exactly how I did it, used safety stainless wire.

Thanks for this. I assumed the failure was due to a broken spring. Mazda should be ashamed of putting something so flaky into production.

Thank you for sharing with us. Any reason why to not just use JB weld or something similar

2007 NB has this problem but it's not due to a crack. When I look at it really closely it seems like on the inside of the visor there is a little nub that fits into a hole as you're rotating the visor up. I'm thinking that that little peg is not getting into that hole; maybe it's wore down or broke or something. Curious what you think as I'm a complete newbie at this

Thanks for the video BUT unfortunately I saw way to late as I ripped the damn visor off as it was annoying me & threw it out the Window !

Could this be done with a tyreup instead a wire?

Would a black zip tie do the same?

I filed the little nub and popped the new $26 visor in place with no disassembly, but a zip tie could work!

I tried a black zip tie but I couldn’t get it tight enough to keep it from drooping. This wire fix worked great. Used copper romex. Prior to this I used magnets, but glue went bad after about a year. Thank you for the video.

It’s a shame that we have to Jerry-rig some sun visors on a newer vehicle.

Aren't the new visors just as bad and fragile as the old ones?

  • @raymondpainter228
    @raymondpainter228 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sorry, but this is a real bodge. I would hope anyone with any mechanical or engineering skills could do better.
If you are going to go to the trouble of the disassembly it is worth doing a better repair.
