This type of filter traps soot. Soot is carbon. Soot causes lung cancer. If the filter is full, the engine management goes into the regeneration cycle. It heats the exhaust gas so that the soot in the filter ignites and burnes into CO2. CO2 doesn't cause lung cancer. With every regeneration cycle a tiny amount of ash remains in the filter. This limits the amount of soot that can be trapped. The process shown in the video is meant to clean out the ash. To bring back the full capacity to the filter. But many cars are driven in a way that the regeneration cycle can't be enabled. Specific parameters have to be met to go into the regeneration cycle.
Dude, the amount of soot put into the oceans by naturally occurring forest fires is way more than cleaning your DPF will, and it has never been a problem for marine life. Soot in your lungs cause cancer, you know what soot in the water causes? Nothing. We use carbon water filters every single day.
