How excellent to have a collaboration of the velonauts! I have one tip, as a cyclist, which is not really a safety tip but it is relevant in case of accidents. The tip is: Always take a pen with you. This is so you can take down their registration number as they speed off!
Here are a few tips I would like to add: - I placed extra lights near the mirrors on the Strada; these can indicate the width of the bike to oncoming traffic, and because I mounted a switch near to the indicator switch I can also use these lights to flash a warning to oncoming traffic without taking my hands off the steering. - I have a reflecting motif on the wheel covers of my Strada, and reflective rim tape on the front wheels. This greatly increases visibility from the side, and the round reflection of the wheel rims also signals the presence of something with wheels, i.e. something that moves. This tip is of course only useful for velomobiles with open front wheel wells, therefore not very useful for a Quest or Quattrovelo. - When in city traffic I tend to ride behind cars in such a way that they can more easily see me in their rearview mirrors, i.e. not too close, a little bit to the side, lights angled slightly high. Don’t try to cut pass someone where they could make a sudden right hand turn without signaling. Make sure your planning for an “out” if something happens (ex. What’s your move if x happens). 2) I not longer use a flag but I kept the flag post. I wrapped my flag post with blue LED tape. It has a slow flash and blue is the easiest color for the human eye to see at night. It also has less drag than having a flag. I plan on adding another video on my lights when it gets nice again.
I believe that being seen and being able to see are the most important aspects of riding, not just a velo but also any recumbent. Lights and reflective tape really do help in all weather conditions.

As to lights, I have an aversion to those super-bright flashing lights. Where I am riding, there are lots of cyclists - and to me what can’t be done by everyone without problems should not be done at all. I expect drivers to see the normal bright headlights and taillights of a velomobile. That is not asking too much from anyone who is not texting or watching tv behind the wheel. And those who do may not see your flashers anyway.

Great video Saukki👍 I'm going to be buying a trike OR possibly a velomobile this year and after being involved in a life threatening accident about 12 years ago (I was cycling home) I am very conscious about being seen and whichever bike I get I will definitely have a flag or maybe two. I have been a motorcyclist for about 35 years and no matter what you do you sometimes get a car driver pulling out of a junction and as John was saying if you're unlucky it can just happen. However on the day of my accident I just drew the short straw but it did not stop me from cycling. I must add the reason I say that is because I was lit up like a Christmas tree, all lights blazing, wearing a reflective jacket the whole wardrobe of safety gear and yet it just happened. There's a video on TH-cam (not sure if its still there as I found d it shortly after my accident) about two guys throwing a basket ball to each other, see if you can find it, its a psychological lecture for some student about what information the brain edits out from the mass of information that is coming in, its very interesting.

Also I think it's important for riders to be aware of what' s going on around you and be on the lookout for possible hazards such as motorists distracted by mobile phones and pedestrians wearing headphones. In Germany we use 2 inner tubes in the rear wheel, because it´s very dangerous if the rear wheel would loose all its air pressure abruptly (on a trike). I have knowledge of several accidents.
Drill a second hole for the second valve into the rim. Then pump approximately same amount of air into the first and second inner tube (Count the pumping strokes). Use much talc for assembly. From time to time you have to empty the tire and pump new air so that you can make sure that is enough air in each inner tube.
While it may only help after the fact, in an accident. A camera is a good idea. I use a Garmin VIRB Elite. Which gives me hours of video and I can slap a fresh chip and a battery into it, when it runs low. It is also fairly aerodynamic, unlike the GoPro. The GoPro has a gazillion mounting options and is a pretty good camera. Kind of nice to be able to review your ride afterwords, or save it for posterity, 64Gb cards are pretty cheap these days.
Too bad now days 64 GB card can only take about 1,5 hours of footage in 1080p 60 fps. And I was stupid enough to buy two of them for my new cameras. I should have bought at least 128 GB cards...
My Milan has the Colors Yello, White an Red the Colors John Sayed, i Stop always in Offset with my Recumbent and Velombil to be Visible in Left or Right Rear Mirror to keep Eye contact an have a Escape Lane if the Car will set Back
Can you please tell me about the light you use on the top of the velo? I have only found lights for the back of a bike seat, but nothing to fit on the top of a velo. Thanks!

Can you describe how you use two tubes?

I personnaly glued a red led strip on the flag tube, looks like Darth Vader light saber but increase the visibility quite well !

The whole process you just described is called a 360 walk around vehicle inspection also known as a pre trip .

My light is a Topeak Headlux helmet light. And that’s my hack to mount it to a gopro mount.
