  • Check out highlights of the great 2011 Outdoor Motocross season. Have we ever had three legends of the sport battle tooth and nail for a Motocross championship before? Coming off his first 450cc Supercross Championship, Ryan Villopoto would have all the momentum going into the Outdoors. After a so so Supercross season Ryan Dungey looked to defend his title and proved he had the speed to do so. Many people wrote Chad Reed off coming into 2011, but he showed he could start his own team and win races at the same time. Don't miss the epic battles, was this THE BEST MOTOCROSS SEASON IN HISTORY? #Motocross #RyanVillopoto #Supercross

Not to down on success or to take anything away from him but he was only able to win championships when RV2, Stew, and RC were injured. He never won a championship against RD5. That’s motocross and supercross combined. Reed is still a great but every championship he has does have an asterisk unfortunately.

Masterful tactics at Hangtown from Reed letting the Ryans battle it out for for the lead, and just cruise to the back of them and sit behind while they wore each other out. Then once one of the Ryans got on top and pulled away a bit, CR22 put the hammer down in the last 10 minutes and hunted then both down and even gapped them.
When Reed was on it he was genuinely untouchable by any rider.
100% agree with you if he didn't crash while leading the Championship he would have won it. Such a shame. He should have way more championships for his talent

This was the beginning of a run where, for the rest of RV's career, Kawi stepped up for him and did whatever it took to win a championship while Suzuki threw RD under the bus. RV got the awesome 2012 bike at the mid-season break of the 2011 season! But RD's Suzuki laid down on him and cost him a ton of points and a couple wins. This drove Dungey to KTM and, by the time that bike was equal to the Kawi, RV was retired. Would love to have seen 2011-2014 Kawi/RV -vs- 2015-2018 KTM/Dungey. My two favorite riders ever along with RC.

The Reed of the first races was epic to see....always bummed seeing that crash happen and destroy a beautifull championship battle, thankfully he got the most luckiest landing like some higher forces were attending. When he won Anaheim 2 in 2014 he got that same winning flow in the next couple races like in this 2011 motocross season untill he again, crashed hard. This time in the whoops when Roczen changed lines when Reed was allready commited. He never came back after that. its a crazy sport, when crashes happen. I saw a video of Jason Anderson couple days ago when he dominated a MX of Nations race, and got landed on by another rider when he was celebrating after winning that race. Canard in 2012, that was brutal. or Villopoto in 2011 when he was battling with Dungey and crashed on his own. Tomac on the honda in the downhill motocross corner...both shoulders gone...Stewart jumping into Carmichael at that motocross track. Stewart and Herlings show that if you wanna be the fastest, it comes at a price, but Tomac has found that perfect balance to be fast without the big mistakes.

2007. But this season is up there!! This is the best version of Chad Reed ever. Unfortunately Millville knocked him off his rocker and basically ended his momentum. But then you really gotta give it up to Villopoto for pulling it together at the end and securing the title after not having a full motocross season since 2008 (injured after Glen Helen in 2009 and messed himself up in supercross in 2010). Dungey had to face Reed at his best then Villopoto at his best at different points of this season - but I really forgot how incredibly fast Dungey was. He had too many bike failures this year

I cant help but think that Reed being this competitive vs Dungey and Villopoto that season that if JS7 was racing that season what would’ve happened. I say that knowing that Reed was never on the level of Stewart outdoors. For sure would’ve been the most competitive front 4 ever, but idk if I’m being bias but would Stewart not have waxed these boys? Not trynna say it as a facts but just trying to start a conversation, i think about the levels of riders and when riders retire/ get injured/ special circumstances like bans, having an impact on the next generations results. Its part of the sport to deal with injuries and stuff but idk if I’m alone in thinking if some riders ride out a longer career and face less injuries do the next generations of riders have the same statistics and impact? Its hard to say because this sport is so high risk and grueling, but in many sports the top guys will dominate or be top guys for around 20 years, seeing other great players come and go without coming close to the accomplishments they have. But in motocross we see early retirements and very tough injuries, so you never see what could have been, but you do see guys come in and fill the spots that were left open.

Honestly… I’m just getting into it. I watched RC as a kid but give it a couple year’s for Danger to grow into the Pro circuit. Not saying he’ll dominate (obviously Jett is probably the most talented rider since RC IMO) but, I think his best is yet to come. Jett had a crappy rookie season with like 28/pts or something in 2019? Point is if Deegan can stay healthy and use these couple years to gain experience… once he’s done growing physically (biggest jump physically is between 16-18) and hits 18 you’ll see an even faster Deegan I think. But man Jett is so fun to watch and Jo Shimoda is definitely a speed demon (reminds me of Stewart) and I think we’re about to see the best motocross since RC, CR and JS battled epically
